a comprehensive guide to the visual communication program at arizona state university featuring every single project from our studio classes, the good and the bad, from freshman to senior year! I know I would have loved to see what type of graphic design projects I would be doing at asu so I hope this helps someone who is interested in studying graphic design!

I'm in here weak. You said, the web design taught you that you didn't want to do web design. LOL. Seriously, I think you are very organized. That stands out for me. I like your many portfolios of your college experience. I would have loved to have you as a student. I teach a variety of schools and have yet to meet a student who would come close to your work ethic. This is a quality that companies will love to see in an artist. Reviewing your work, I see you jumping into the design industry and having some companies really wanting you. You seem like you would step up to the challenge. Keep doing what you love and start a new creative portfolio of new projects outside of school. That will further show your creativity to future employers. I like the cookbook. I'm really big on projects dealing with social awareness issues. Turn your Coffee shop map into a interactive downloadable app so that you can attach a fee to it. You can add photo features and coupons from different shops to help promote them and create revenue from the different shops for advertising them.

I just changed my major from communications to graphic design and I really appreciate this so so much! I’ll be doing it online so i assume some things will be a little different but I love how detailed you are in your explanations. It really validated how I felt about going into it. So thank you!

I'm currently a senior at a college in Michigan. It's so interesting to see other people's experience with studying graphic design and the project they have to create. Your work is beautiful. I think you did a great job in the beginning as well

Hi. I have a simple photoshop project that I need help with. I’m willing to pay a student who might want to make a little money on the side. Can u advise me on how to find someone who might help me? Where should I call or post to reach the students? I basically want to make a picture of my sister into a Andy Warhol looking photo. A block of four of the same photo but with different pop art colors. Google says you can do this with photoshop but I don’t know how

Thank you for the informative video! Love your work especially the tea towel. Were learning how to use the Adobe programs part of the major? Or are you expected to know how?
@claraxmatilda
@claraxmatilda Жыл бұрын
Thank you! 💕 when I attended the design program at ASU, learning the different Adobe programs was not part of the curriculum. You learn how to use them on your own or with help from your peers through completing projects and by figuring out how can I make this look like how I want it to look. ASU Poly has a Graphic Information Technology program that is more how-to when it comes to learning the Adobe programs!

This is so awesome to see! I'm currently taking the program online. I have a question though, do you think I should save every design project I make? Or just my favorites? I have so many files in my MacBook that I want to get rid of, but I'm worried I might need them in the future.
@claraxmatilda
@claraxmatilda 2 жыл бұрын
Definitely save every design project! You’ll need all of them for your process binder at the end of every semester and for your program book which you make in junior year. It’s also great to showcase a wide variety of projects in your portfolio! If possible, I would invest in a good external hard drive that you can keep some of your projects on or use google drive to store some files. Wait until after graduation to delete files!

Hi Clara, I will be joining ASU HIDA for Graphic Design this fall, wanted to know what stationary (or stationary budget) would we need, and also if an ipad pro with pencil is necessary for a relatively better education experience. Thank you
@claraxmatilda
@claraxmatilda 2 жыл бұрын
How exciting! In my experience, an ipad pro is definitely not necessary, especially the first two years of the program! Personally, I would invest that money into a better MacBook instead. You will receive a list of supplies to purchase during the first week of classes, including a kit from Blick which was around $300. You end up spending a lot of money on supplies and printing throughout the program, but you have to remember that other majors spend hundreds of dollars on textbooks, while you might have to buy maybe 3 textbooks total. Good luck in the program! 💕

Could you describe what freshman housing was like as a graphic design major? I will be a freshman in the fall and am having a very hard time finding anything in depth about adelphi commons.

I never lived on campus so unfortunately I don’t know much! I’m sure you could ask to take a tour though!

I am currently a graphic design major living at Adelphi Commons. I do not recommend it as all of the Graphic Design classes are about a 25 minute walk from the dorms, which is very difficult during the summer. I highly recommend temporarily switching to an engineering major so you could dorm at Tooker House (≈7 min walk from design building) and then switch back to graphic design after your housing has been selected & finalized. This way you could still be a GD major while living in dorms that are closer, newer, & much nicer. The only downside is that you will not be living around other Herberger students which may make it feel hard to find people with common interests in the dorms. I promise, however, that you will make a ton of friends at the design studio as you will be spending many hours around them so it’s not like you won’t have a creative community to integrate with. Hope this helped!
@andrwtb
@andrwtb 2 жыл бұрын
I forgot to add, Adelphi Commons does not have its own dining hall. The nearest dining hall is about a 5-10 minute walk from Adelphi. Tooker House has its own dining hall and it is connected to the dorms. Also, it is highly likely that you will be working in the design studio through the night and it’s a much safer walk to Tooker House from the studio than to Adelphi due to the much shorter distance. I still think you should consider Adelphi since it is the default housing for design majors, but there are some cons to it that I wish I knew before starting my freshman year
