My Greatest Days Motorcycling Ever | Serra Da Estrela

This really is my greatest days motorcycling I have ever had. I arrive in Portugals Serra da Estrela national park, I turn up late the night before and it is starting to get dark. The SatNav has taken me on a dirt track off road and I feel like I am lost. I finally find my hotel.
The next morning I ride up Portugals highest mountain with incredible views and roads, and snow capped mountains. The first time I have ever ridden my motorcycle in the snow.
I head down the mountain on quite simply some of the greatest motorcycling roads I have ever seen. Stretching for miles across the mountains, there are just endless miles of perfect roads. This is by far my best days motorcycling ever.

As a portuguese i can say you caught the essence of Serra da Estrela Natural Park, his landscapes and his roads. I recognized and enjoyed all that familiar places and every road corner as if i was at your place. if your visit would be in easter or summer you could have probably much more dense traffic. By the way; Manteiga's means butter's and Torre means tower. ahahah. Thank you.

I came across your channel yesterday, specifically the Sport Glide video which was a really useful comparison for me as I ride a Bonneville Bobber so quite similar to your Speedmaster. Now I can't stop watching your videos. This Portugal series was great. Just discovered this channel and I'm enjoying your content a lot. Doesn't feel like a typical KZbin vid to me, more like a narrator describing the trip as he goes, awesome. Also glad to see you enjoyed our little country; I don't think our landscape is impressive and majestic like, say, Norway, but it's still pretty and definitely cheaper! 😅 And I have to say we do have some cool roads in great condition, with excellent tarmac; perfect for motorcycling. If you ask me, this road was a way better riding experience than the N222 "Greatest Road". Weather was slightly iffy at times but March/April is clearly the best time to avoid traffic and crowds. Bonus - hotels were a bargain. Great trip, thanks for sharing.

Seeing this video makes me want to go back... Manteigas is the land where my father was born. I have a house there in the centre of the village. It is great to spend some days cruising around... incredibly, I have never made it on a motorcycle. DUH. I have to change this. I bet you went back to the hotel via the Road you had planned to go down into Manteigas so you did see the U shaped valley. It is a remarkable place... boring as hell if you are a teenager. Believe me... I spent there some of my summer vacations, without a car... man... boring is to say the least. :D :D but it is great to have some dives in the river Zezere... I miss it now!

Having ridden this route I can wholeheartedly agree with you, absolutely the best days motorbiking in my life, incredible smooth tarmac for the most part, peg scraping curves and jaw dropping scenery, oh and almost zero traffic, these are the type of roads that when you reach the end you just have to turn around and do it all again. Nice video, thoroughly enjoyable. 😃👍

👍 I cannot recommend it enough, it really was my best days riding ever!! Unfortunately the ferry is rather pricey. It cost me £600 pounds!! I cant see how they justify that price. However I would do it again in a heart beat if I could!!

Great vid Angus.All going to plan I will be in that area in September.I will be traveling Ireland,Bilbao,Madrid to see some friends there then Sierra de Greedos then on to Luna Hotel for a few nights and tour Serra da Estrela.After that hope to head to Sierra Nevada and after that head back northwards..Excitement is building..Last year I did Basque region and the Picos,went south to Segovia and as far as Toledo.Not bad for an old age pensioner riding solo on a V-strom?😶‍🌫

It's fairly easy to find on Google Maps as has been all of Angus' route. Why do you need to have a gpx file? Maybe you should go on a guided tour just in case you get lost? LoL.

Basically if you just head to the Summit of “Mount Torre” in the Serra Da Estrela National park you cannot go wrong. Then once summited Torre head towards Manteigas on the N339 then N232 👍
