I bought a Scrambler 1200XC in June of 2020, and I've since accumulated just south of 30k trouble-free and happy miles. I live and work in the desert south-west of the U.S. and the road surfaces I travel are about 80% decent asphalt roads and 20% a mix of gravel, dirt and sand. It's been the ideal bike for me and has yielded absolutely NO buyer's remorse.

500th comment! Whoooot! 😆 I own a 2021 Scrambler XC, and it’s the only scrambler style bike I’ve owned. But, I’ve owned a Triumph Tiger 955i, a BMW 1100 RTP, KLR650, Honda CTX750N, a Kawasaki sonethingorother…and this is by far my favorite of them all. I live 4 miles off the pavement, in some very rough mountainous country, and the ride out and then back on the dirt is a great test for the bike, which it passes very well. I’ve ridden long trips on it, and the stick seat is a 7.5 out of 10. Could be better, but I don’t find myself complaining or dreaming of an aftermarket seat. Power: does everything I need. Looks: it inspires me. I love it. It gets lots of compliments. LOTS. Some can’t believe it’s a newer bike with all the tech, because it looks old school. I love that. Overall handling: it is a substantial bike, but feels FAR lighter and responsive than my BMW 1100. All in all, I’m not concerned about it being the perfect scrambler. More, I’m happy that it’s the perfect bike for me. And that’s what I’m more concerned with. A fantastically capable bike all around, and I liken it to a Swiss Army knife: it’s not TGE BEST at any one thing, but man, does it do a lot of things just really well!

It's an interesting thought about the weight of the 1200 XC vs the Scrambler 900: You say you can feel the extra weight on this bike, but it's actually lighter by 2 lbs, dry. The 1200 XC is 452 lbs and the 900 is 454 lbs. On the 1200 they did a few lightening things like the aluminum swingarm, vs the steel one on the 900 to offset the additional weight of the motor and 6 speed transmission. What I think you're feeling is a combination of factors. One is the dual discs on the front brakes of the 1200 creating extra gyroscopic forces when turning the bars. Another is the extra rotational mass of the 1200cc engine, also imparting extra gyro forces. Another factor is the lower CG of the 900 on account of its over 3" lower suspension travel, so the 900 carries its weight much lower. Lastly, the 900 carries 3.17 gallons of fuel, but the 1200 gets a 4.2-gallon tank, which will tip the weight of the 1200 just slightly above the 900 with a full tank, but it also increases the CG height of the 1200 XC. In the same way, if you think the 1200 XC feels heavier, the 1200 XE will feel even heavier still, due to the additional 2" of height, and its even higher CG.

This is the predecessor model to the actual X model, but even XC model being a scrambler that solves a lot of different possible choices in terms of use including accessibility to shorter riders, the proportions of the bike with that 21 “ wheel in the front looks a little strange to me, but that impression immediately vanishes in presence of the bigger sister XE where that visual harmony pays tribute to absolute beauty. No wind protection in the original form, we may add a windshield to accommodate that protective absence but, I’m not sure if it doesn’t harm the Perfection referred in this video. Although a little wind deflector helps and doesn’t compromise the looks of the bike (on both, XC or XE). The most difficult disadvantage I see on this bike to use it for touring purposes is to adapt luggage racks that without the panniers don’t look crappy. Minimalistic side structures and easy to attach would be ideal. I’m not aware, exactly, if it’s possible to install something like SW Motech side mounts, because they’re slim and efficient, and very different from the tubular exuberant support structures that Triumph commonly uses on their bikes, or like BMW apply on their GSA for the aluminum hard cases, which I detest to look at, when those cases aren’t installed. My conclusion is that the possibility is viable if the biker travels light weight on luggage, without Pillion, doing more frequent stops for resting, it might work well, it’s a solution, maybe far from perfect but doable. Thanks.

Commenting very late here. I've had an XC for 3 years and still love it. I came from owning a great many sports bikes over the years and now in my mid fifties wanted something that didn't kill the back and wrists, but still had enough grin factor for the right roads. I've never noticed the narrower handle bars as an issue and indeed the geometry of the XC is more road orientated than the XE. The XE is a beautiful bike and to be honest I would have had one if it wasn't so bloody tall. I'm 5'10 and was on tippy toes, so imo to be comfortable on it, you really need something longer than my 31" legs. I also don't tour, but putting a fly screen on helped tremendously with motorway wind blast. There are times when I contemplate a change, but tbh there is nothing else I want, especially as most other ADV bikes are plain ugly in comparison.

The Scrambler 1200 XC is one of the best looking bikes on the market. I had one last year but sold it for two reasons: first, the heat from the exhaust on the right side regularly grilled my leg. Second, the suspension is not that good especially in absorbing short shocks and I got problems with my back after riding this bike for a while. Besides that, it is a fantastic bike. It’s a shame that Triumph fits them with these terrible (and very old) Tourance tires (which, to make matters worse, were constantly loosing air). After changing them to Bridgestone AT 41 I had the feeling of having a totally different bike, very neutral in the twisties, much less counter steering. Well, I miss this bike!

Follow up: I bought a blue one just like this over the weekend. A couple observations. As I've got a bad back and quit motorcycling 3 years ago, I thought i'd give it another go. You can dial out the compression damping, and make it comfy. From what I've heard, even the factory doesn't put out these bikes with the shocks compression and rebound set correctly. Correct factory spec for one up riding should be 18 clicks out on compression, 30 clicks out on rebound. Start there, then adjust to taste. Next, the keyfob is crap. I don't see any point to the extra hassle and potential for unreliability of the fob. Just give us a key, please. Tire pressure should be 36psi in front, 42 in the rear. It took me a while before I could even find that info, but the dash kept telling me it was low. The seat can dig into your hamstrings a bit at a stop, because even this XC model is made for tall people IMO. I'm 6'1" and still feel it. Otherwise, great riding position, awesome motor, love the Brembo brakes and Ohlins shocks, and the dash is very nice, all parts that they've since stripped off this bike after 2023 with their "X" model. 2022 model year and on has the cat moved back to the silencers, so you can decat, reduce heat, and drop a bunch of weight all with just a slip-on. Mine had only 750 miles on it, and already had the Pannier, flyscreen, Zard Exhaust, handguards, heated grips, and TPMS installed. I think I lucked out because I didn't have to pay anything for $2300+ in options, first service, or dealer prep and freight, and it's not even fully broken in. They didn't even take the stickers off it yet. Only add-ons I'm considering are a front fender extension, tail tidy, and the tank grippers. It's such a nice motorcycle and just feels like quality. Good times.

I have a 2022 XE and used to have a 2019 XC… I went to the dark side (BMW) in between) both are great bikes… to your bag complaint: Unit Garage has a double rack with two aluminum cases to attach. I also believe Unit Garage has the prettiest windscreen (with GPS holder) and best looking rear rack… back to the bike: it is to pretty to trash down the Enduro track, but gravel roads and light dirt roads will get you to your destination… I love the power, though the bike is not the quick around town bike to the store… I have to 900SS and the 400X for that… with the end of production of the XC the XE is your go to tall off-road bike and the X the on-road bike… it finally makes sense as the XE and XC were really not that far apart… there is a significant difference though between the XE and the X… if you wanna have something off-road worthy get the new XE or get a slightly used XC… heck I am sure you still can find a new and discounted 23 model in the showroom somewhere… however if you can’t get enough, premium is your middle name, and you love more bling, go with the XE…

As a "shorty" I have learned that a seat higher than 815mm is too much of a challenge. On the XC I can barely get the balls of my feet down. On the XE my feet are waving in the wind. While riding it's not a problem but stopping on off camber roads or at an uphill traffic light it's pucker inducing. It's a shame because other than that I love the bike. Interesting review. I've owned both the 900 Street Scrambler and 1200 Scrambler, and as an ownership proposition, I have to say I think I preferred the 900. The 1200 is undoubtedly a better bike in lots of respects... power, overall specs etc. However the 900 is a much lighter more manageable, with more then enough power for a retro scrambler. It's also substantially cheaper and I much prefer the simpler analogue clock on the 900 (same as on the Speedmaster). Why would you want to change the exhaust? I've never understood why people want to make a bike with a good exhaust note, more noisy. Keep up the great work.
@redangrevival Жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yes I agree the Street Scrambler is brilliant and actually more retro and truer to the scrambler name. It is a good exhaust, but they can always sound better!
@Clint_the_Audio-Photo_GuyАй бұрын
I think the purest scrambler would probably have to be the smaller -engined 900cc bike, if they put some basic analog gauges on it. Scramblers never were desert off-road Dakar racers or anything, they're not supposed to be that off-road oriented, just have some knobbier tires, high exhaust, skid plates, and maybe a couple more inches of suspension travel. I think of a scrambler like an in-town cafe bike that can go off road for short stints. The 1200 XC definitely seems more capable for touring, with its cruise-control, taller suspension, six speed transmission, and 1200cc motor but IMO it's the best looking of all the Scramblers, if not the purest.

CIAO not chow…..????? the 2022 Triumph Scrambler 1200XC is the perfect bike. It gorgeous and doesn’t look like any other bike made. You can’t compare the look because there’s no other bike that looks like it. All the parts are designed to look good and polished. It doesn’t need any mods. It sounds great the way it is. The 1200cc has enough power and torque so you’ll never need more. Put it in first, let out the clutch, give it gas, and you have an easy wheelie. No need to pop the clutch. That’s hard in the bike anyway. It has the latest technology, and a beautiful TFT display. The high contrast white background looks real sporty. The controls light up at night. All LED lighting. Fully adjustable suspension with loads of travel. Oh ya, it also looks like a dirt bike because it’s all perked up. I love that and it’s the reason why i went for this style bike. i don’t want to sit in the ground. It handles like a dream. it leans real nice and it so easy around corners. Easy to handle and take turns. Five ride modes. Cruise control. ABS Auto cancelling directionals. People complain about having to cancel out the directionals on this bike but they’re so wrong. This bike has THREE settings for the directionals. The technology includes so much information and easily accessed on the TFT display. 21 inch front wheel 17 inch rear wheel i average 50 miles to the gallon. USA. I absolutely love this bike. It’s as if they made it for me. Lots and lots of bikes out there, yes. We choose what is good for each of us. For me this bike had everything, looks, tech, comfort, and power. you mentioned you didn’t know what scrambler meant to you. oddly enough, when i hear scrambler i think of a bank robbery. “you have to scramble and get out of there” You know with this bike, you could, and also disappear into the wild because of its capabilities. triumph really took their time, and thought everything out with this before releasing a product. i always get excited about going for a ride. for me this bike is winner. case closed, send the jury home.

And actually this is one of those bikes that appears to me in my dreams😂 Never had one. I’ve test ridden one though. Reality knocked at the door and showed me:- It’s a nice bike, but will you take it off road? Probably never…; It’s a very nice bike, but would you take it on longer rides, once that is has no significant whether protection? Humm, maybe not, too; it’s a stunning beautiful bike, but can you bring your stuff and luggage in or with it, without damaging its looks? It’s more a road bike than a scrambler but in fact it got the looks of it. Will you change or trade your R Nine T scrambler for it? (Long silence) Or any of your other bikes, to make room for it in your garage? (Longer silence). That’s my problem about the Triumph 1200 XC, it seems a bike that only can take place in my dreams, not on Reality, I’m afraid. I sadly admitted so, but it has a place in my heart, that’s a certainty!

👍 haha it is a very cool bike, yes I would not take it off road. However it is great fun on bumpy back roads or country lanes. Also a good road bike in its own right. I think it worth a ride!

@@redangrevival Yes, of course, on minimum terms, it deserves a ride. The motor or the suspensions are in fact excellent. The bike has enough torque to accomplish almost everything that you can demand from a road bike. The problem there, is that if we think about buying this Triumph Scrambler we must want it badly. The purchase value, is leveled with other serious proposals on the Motorcycle Market. Who knows, of more versatile capabilities ? And to make this bike your own, the cost will get significantly increased. The strong points of this bike versus the competition, on my opinion, are: - The looks; There are a very few motorcycles in this segment that can level with it. - The incredible nice sound of the engine from stock in this scrambler category; - The general reliability of the bonneville range is high; - The care and quality of details aesthetic and technical (is not the best, but one of the best options).

Had the xe 1200 just too expensive and sold it after 1 year I also had a 1 year old t120 -triumph need to reduce their prices ,look at Royal end field and yes I had a brand new gt650 continental,my current zx9r doesn’t run out of puff in second gear and only 2,000 pounds with 14,000 miles on the clock ,come in triumph reduce your prices and you’ll sell zillions of bikes

I think it rides very differently! Much more nimble, however I would much prefer to tour in the Triumph.
