There was one British sitcom called "Bottom". They used props like these all the time in the scenes when Eddie (Adrian Edmondson) and Richie (Rik Mayal) would get into completely pointless arguments and fights. There were couple of theater performances of the show as well. They were masters of using props like these. I also recommend "The Young Ones" and "The New Statesman".
