after o'malley beat aljo, i am seeing a lot more o'malley users and am having trouble beating these guys. basically, they use the footwork the whole three rounds and never get inside and just jab and leg kick to victory. i cant seem to close it. As soon as i close in, they plant the feet and throw like 4 combos. if i move my head to make them miss, they simply use the footwork to back off, and since o'malley has insane range, I cant touch them with body kicks or straight punches. any advice?

i don’t play too much anymore but i played ranked from season 1 - 12/13 and was always top 50 if not top 100 and i’ve just about seen it all so i’ll give you some advice. your best bet is to win as many small exchanges as you can and frustrate them enough so they start closing the distance. i’ll explain what i mean and if you have any questions feel free to ask. they probably start off the round on the back foot so you need to immediately need to be feinting the lead leg kick into a cross to close the distance quickly (you can substitute this for a feint lead leg kick into a cross to the body. the speed/timing isn’t as fast so be ready for that). they’ll try to catch you with a jab as you feint so be ready to slip after you throw the feint instead of throwing the cross. after you’ve closed the distance, they’ll plant and rip. luckily most people who play the game do the same 1-3 3 or 4 piece combos the entire fight. by the end of the 1st round, they will have thrown all the combos in their arsenal. once you get a feel for the combos they like to throw, you can start slipping and countering their combos when you feel comfortable. so the exchanges you need to win are the leg kick feint into a cross/body cross while they throw a potential jab (or other strike) to keep you at distance and whatever their 3/4 piece plant and rip combo is. if you don’t win these exchanges in round 1, you have the rest of the fight to adjust. if you win these exchanges in round 1, there’s only 1 more round you need to win (if it’s a 3 rounder). if it’s a 5 rounder, they’ll most likely be frustrated by round 3 and start being more aggressive and you can revert to whatever play style you’re comfortable with. if they don’t get aggressive, keep doing the same thing until the end of the fight. ik this is a lot but i hope this helps.
