That Deluxe was an insane deal and looks well done. I bought the reissue, a sunburst #9 from Musician's Friend for like $4800 back in the early 2000's, but it felt pretty cheap so I sent it back. The center DiMarzio made it unplayable as it felt as big as a pack of cigarettes under the strings where you pick. Yours looks correct. Pete supposedly has just one left that actually survived. I saw them in 1980 when he used the Schecters, when they were REAL USA Schecter Guitar Research. He had a cast on his right hand and they came out blazing with Substitute. I've seen a million bands, but nothing like The Who. I stood in front of Entwistle for that show. My ears are still ringin'....

First guitar I bought with my own money when I was 13 or 14 years old was a Gibson B45 12 string. Someone brought it into the local music shop to get it fixed. Luckily I was there and I offered $50 kinda as joke but they accepted! They didn't know what they had all they knew was it was an old guitar. Then after another $50 of repairs it became my favorite guitar for long time and started my still growing collection. Great vid as usual James!

I live in Australia and good deals on amps and guitars are few and far between. My best purchase was a Schecter Sunset II for $3500 which is way out of my comfort zone but better than the $6k they were originally asking. Fortunately, it was three years ago and I've never felt the need to look for another guitar since.

I love the Gretch and the Mim Strat! I have a Mim Tele that is amazing. Mexican Fenders don't get the love that they deserve! I found an Epiphone Les Paul Jr. in a second hand store about 4 years ago. $30.00 out the door. After a truss rod adjustment and a set of locking tuners, holy guacamole, a rock and roll beast!!! Take care brother! 🐉💀👽🎸🎶🎵🧠

Your so right brother. Patience. Unfortunately, I usually have none when it comes to guitars, but I am getting better. I am kind of a guitar snob, and I have been f'd by the vintage game more often than I would like to admit, One time BAD... but I learned. You still have that 90's vintage burst Dove bro from the earlier PT videos. That was my fav acoustic of yours.

You can fix the muddier pickups on the Schecter with a series cap on the neck pickup. 0.047uF in line with the hot lead. Capacitors in series reduce the effective capacitance. Same effect you get with hand-scatter-wound pickups.

Thanks for this! I really appreciate the insight into this part of being a musician that no one really talks about...getting a good deal! I've always been curious, what do you look for when you evaluate an instrument? (If you get it in person or once you receive an online purchase) to sort of make sure it's actually good deal and not a lemon of sorts. Are you ever suspicious that a deal is too good to be true? I feel like this is especially relevant when buying on eBay, do you just sort of take the chance and make sure the seller has a return policy if it isn't as advertised? Thanks again for all the videos you post!

Hello James, been following you for a while. Love the #5 and the Schecter for obvious reasons but all your guitars are sweet man. Great deal on em. I was at Manny's music in nyc in 87-88 an they had one of Pete's numbered LP, they were asking $25k for it. I was in school then and couldnt afford a (any) crappy guitar much less the Man's own. But I did stare at it for a long time ;o)

Thanks for sharing pricing. Very helpful. Agree on everything. The current Gibson Black Beauty is $6,999. It's beautiful but who pays these prices? Just got a notice from the Joe Bonamassa store that my Epiphone Beauty has shipped for less than $900. with case. I haven't owned many guitars in the 50 years I've played. The ones I own just have to sound great and stay in tune on stage. I play them to death year in and year out. They get tweaked until I'm 100 per cent happy though. That's very important to me.

I've been trying to snag the Gibson Custom Authentic Jimmy Page No.1 Les Paul (I know it's a mouthful) for around $5,000 grand for about 3 years now. Every time one in good conditions shows up, it's gone in like an hour or I get outbid or something happens and I lose out. I'm very strict on my budget but it looks like I'll have to bite the bullet nowadays for it. Played a replica in the store once and the neck was fucking awesome, it's haunted me ever since.

Every time I see the gold Schecter, besides the playing I always find myself wondering about the marks by the neck pick-up. Do you have a great story or can you make one up? I always compare the cost of my guitars vs. the hours of enjoyment I get out it, my enjoyment is usually double what I spend.

For me, it’s harder to get a deal-of-a-lifetime price on a high-end acoustic. I’ve gotten fair deals on acoustics, but I don’t know that I’d call any of them bargains. As for the D41, it’s now 17 years old and still mint - and I never play it. I think about selling it every day, but I can’t seem to part with it.
