If you guys would watch the video before commenting, you could see I used the term “wavy” throughout the entire video. I personally think my hair is a mixture of mostly wavy and a few curly pieces! And for the title, I used “curly” because it is a broader term and wavy hair is still a curl pattern. 😊 thank you to those who have actually had something nice to say/sharing their own experience! I made this video so people can embrace their natural hair and take care of it differently, whether it be wavy, curly, or both. *other curly / wavy videos:* including my hair routine and what products I use!! kzbin.info/aero/PLd6It5U5PkZoUnO3dymLSW32abVa8UXSd

Nessa Drake I get where you’re coming from. But instead of getting defensive maybe you can try to understand why people get “butthurt” over this certain word? There is a much deeper meaning behind it than you may be aware. Anyways, her hair is gorgeous and thank you for sharing the video!

Posted this already under another comment: I can explain to you guys (and Taylor) why these people want others to use correct terms for their hair. People with really curly or coily hair usually go through years of severe bullying by peers and sadly also family members/ care takers and teachers. We are pressured to straighten our hair and constantly reminded that we are less beautiful. I have become a victim of even physical attacks simply because of my curly hair. Media (especially films and ADS) always presents natural curly hair as ugly, frizzy and problematic while fake curls (so models with straight hair or wavy hair who were styled to have fake curls) are presented as beautiful. Even in relationships curl shaming is a real thing (my ex mentally and verbally abused me everyday over my curls reminding me how ugly natural curls are). This is something curly and coily girls go through a lot while people who fake their curls or who have straight/wavy hair do not go through all of this. At least not in that extend. Now when someone who does not have curly hair calls their hair curly it represend the media and our natural curly hair is directly compared to the "more beautiful" wavy/fake curly hair of others. It is dismissing our problems. All hair is beautiful but natural curls are not treated as such. Your wavy hair is beautiful and stunning, you can be proudly name it wavy. Wavy is not less or more beautiful than curly hair. Another comparisation: it is completely ok to draw fake freckles on your face! Just do not call them natural freckles. Do not lie, just label it as it is.

Its not a negative comments to say someone hair is wavy, correct. But when you’ve been struggling with your hair for years and you’ve finally come to that point where your comfortable with your hair and how it looks naturally, it definitely hits home when people are sitting there with so many opinions on something thats not even on their head. Her hair is curly she has a combinations of textures. But no its not about being “sensitive”. Theres always been a huge divide between straight and textured hair, even when you’re in the textured hair community theres a divide about what curl patterns are the best ect.... when for years curly hair has been looked at as something that always needs to be “tamed” or put up to be seen as “put together” or even “professional” , there are much deeper roots to this then what u guys are just observing through a camera. In reality hair really means nothing but to our society it’s pivotal. PS: yo I’m mad late I didn’t even know this got a response eeeek🤣

Briana Morales You’re not stating facts lmao. Curly hair is not just one traditional ringlet. It’s on a “spectrum,” and 2a-2c is wavy hair and 3a-3c is the traditional ringlet we see and 4a-4c is kinky/coily hair. But they’re all CURLY hair, waves are the loosest curls and the ringlets are just tighter, and the coils are hella mf tight. You guys are complaining and telling this girl what her hair is. I totally relate with the straight hairpocalypse period. Everyone around me had naturally silky straight hair while mine was a bushy mess. I used to get bullied for it and get asked if I even brush my hair (which I would do and make it worse). I begged my mom for a flat iron so I could conform to the straight hair beauty standard, but now I regret using it and damaging my hair. Now everyone including the same classmates who bullied me for my messy curls are curling their hair 🙄

Naomi I have, sort of. I don’t invest in too many curly girl products, but I do have some good, silicon-sulphate free highly moisturising conditioner and some curly hair gel. I follow some of the curly girl rules as well. I’m just a little lazy. I’m assuming you’re following a stricter schedule than me, so how’s your hair going? Probably better than my uneven 2b-3c hair lol
@NaomiTCOOKIES4 жыл бұрын
@@sparksfly6149 For now I'm following the CGM strictly as a guideline before I fully figure out what my hair needs specifically. My hair is really damaged from heat/chemicals but so far it's been going pretty good; got nice waves and some ringlets but the results are a lil different each time. I've got 2b/2c and currently trying to transition to full 2c. I hope to get back my 3a curls and plan to give myself a year to see how far I can transition. I totally get what you mean by feeling lazy though. And it makes sense not investing in too many products because the work is tedious and pricey.
@sparksfly61494 жыл бұрын
Naomi That’s a pretty smart idea. Find what works for you. Yeah, my hair was pretty damaged too. Even now it’s definitely not completely healthy. I straightened it, dry-brushed it, did everything you’re not supposed to. It’s nice to hear that your hair is going well then. 2b-2c is definitely a good start, keep going. A year sounds like a good amount of time to wait for your hair to become a bit healthier. Have you considered cutting it? And yeah products are so expensive, it’s not even funny. So right now, my routine is 1. Shower, shampoo + conditioner 2. Scrunch with a bit of conditioner, and then gel 3. Let dry, scrunch every now and then.

Senior year of high school I decided to do a big chop and cut off over a foot of hair (to just above my shoulders). After showering and letting it air dry without brushing it, I woke up the next day with crazy frizzy and curly hair (probably about as curly as this vid, but very thin fine hair). My hair never holds a curl when I use a curling iron so I was hella confused! I’ve switched to sulfate free shampoo and such and have started using some oils and gels to help keep my frizz under control and I’m so happy with my curls now 3 years later.

But I do understand that I’m very fortunate for the hair I have. It’s straight and silky natural and I think it’s all due to not using heat on my hair because there is literally no point, nothing ever happens.

my mom's solution is to get her hair keratin treated (she's been doing this for years now, and also flat ironed my hair when i was a kid sometimes) and my grandma hates her curls and wrestles it in neat braids. sigh, it's no wonder it took me until now to figure out what my hair type is!!! i just thought my hair sucked majorly, and even now my mom doubted that my 2b/2c waves are natural waves when i showed em to her the first time. 😂 mannn

Diamond Lincoln I’m telling you! I’m not fully white (mom is Native American and Hispanic. Dad is white). I was adopted by my dads parents so I grew up in a white household that releases my hair every month or so. I didn’t know I had curly hair until a few months ago when I was going to get a cut and the hairstylists mentioned that my roots were curling up. I’m in the process of getting my curls back to how they were when I was a baby! Right now I’m stuck in the wavy/stringy straight hair stage 😭

I feel like only recently I've found this curly community and it's changed my whole life. I grew up with a mama who knows NOTHING about how to treat curls, so only recently learned how to start treating my hair by watching black hairstylists. Most black women I've encountered have been super encouraging and helpful!! I'm so appreciative. I'm grateful that KZbin has a community of curly girls now! I always felt like the only white girl who struggled with "bad" hair, and now at almost 30 I'm learning how to do my hair for the first time😳. My baby is 9 months old and I can already tell she's gonna be curly! I'm excited to be able to teach her what I've learned, and to love her curls😍

Yeah like a lot. Like people wanna bounce the spirals and you get called a sheep, a poodle, etc That’s why boys with curly hair shave lightly and girls straighten. I think MOST girls wanted their hair to be super straight in middle/high school... at least that’s how it was when I was still in school haha. (I went to 16 different schools because we moved every year, sometimes multiple times in a year). Seriously, almost every single girl in my yearbooks had long, straight hair. 😂 Now that I’m older, I’ll be 28 in October, I want my curly hair back! 😩 I’ve been dyeing and styling my hair with straighteners and curling irons since I was 12-13. wavy, curly, coily, kinky- all makes for 2,3,4 type curl patterns. They’re all still classified as curly hair:) also, her hair most definitely has a curl pattern- it’s not just straight with bends- her curl pattern just happens to be looser (and beautiful!)
@laurenhuq4 жыл бұрын
So are you saying that all hair that is not straight is curly?
@MORBmb4 жыл бұрын
Lauren she literally said wavy, curly, coily and kinky those are types of curls. So yes kinda? But she isn’t wrong.

Racheal.m Banjoko I understand what your saying but I’m just confused as to how wavy hair is curly. I’m not tryna be rude. I’m just asking. I get that it’s a pattern of hair but doesn’t wavy fall under its own category and not curly?
@jillianjacques41904 жыл бұрын
Lauren no, wavy hair is a degree of curl. Curly is an umbrella term. Personally I think wavy not curly starts at waves you’d see in sleek pin straight type hair, the kind you get from braiding said hair texture, some girls have that braided wave look naturally but that’s just the only way I can describe the waved. There’s a stark difference between braid waves and this girls hair texture.

I don’t think people realise that curly is a synonym for wavy. People commenting on your video saying “your hair is actually wavy, not curly” would be like commenting on a video of someone with type 4 hair and saying “your hair is actually kinky, not curly”....
@nonkululekotembo16524 жыл бұрын
Wavy hair has an S type pattern and is normally almost straight looking. Curly hair has a spring like pattern. Kinky hair has a tighter curl, it's normally categorised as 'Type 4' hair. Saying her hair is not curly isn't a bad thing. It's BEAUTIFUL. Saying someone's hair is kinky also isn't a bad thing. But there is a difference between curly and wavy
@hate94864 жыл бұрын
It’s not a synonym but ok. Curly is tight or quite loose ringlets. Wavy is just a S pattern.

Finally, I realized that if I didn’t brush it, scrunched it, and used really lightweight and moisturizing products my hair would be smooth and curly. Beauty standards since we are young no matter what ethnicity broadcast that sraight long hair is idolized. Media also widely portrays that with lack of representation for differences. Most people are guilty of generalization thinking curls and or waves only happen for people that look a certain way. Society brainwashes and shames those who begin to embrace their hair. Their comes a time when you begin to love yourself and better yourself for who you are and not attempt to assimilate to the norm and are still judged and scrutinized. For instance those blatantly trying to prove her wrong in this video or twisting her words. I think her embracing her curl pattern is beautiful it goes to show that she is embracing who she is without conforming. Her curls represent confidence and self love.

I had straight thin hair up until I hit puberty then my hair got thick and really wavy and I was totally clueless on what to do with my hair. I’d just brush it dry and it would end up like yours. I eventually learned to just start brushing my hair in the shower and it would still get some curls but it was still overall messy looking. Since discovering your channel nearly two months I’ve started my curly hair journey and my hair looks so much better and defined. Thank youuu 🥺💛

Finally a video from someone who has hair similar to mine (but I am more 2a-2b, but I have just started my journey, so maybe it'll become better) I also realized that I like my waves 100500 times more than any other style, and feel so lucky to be able to wear them every day with no need to use a curling iron or other time consuming techniques

My wave pattern is similar to yours, but I have some bleach damage. Trying to grow it out really long like yours. Goals!

“My hair wasn’t at a level that you could tone” girl she lied to you 😂 their are toners for every hair level, and you were about a 7, so she DEFINITELY could’ve toned it smh

the hairdresser shouldve left it on for a bit longer, then tone, her hair wasnt at the right level to tone to the kind of way she wanted it, theres definitely not a toner for each level of hair

My mind is blown. I shaved my head at 15 years old because my hair was just like yours. I've kept a buzz cut for 6 years and have been growing it out for the past year (almost to my shoulders now). My hair was just as fluffy and frizzy and I hated it. As my hair has been growing out I noticed some natural curl (because it was so short I wasn't brushing it). So I started using some curling mousse and saw improvement. I accidentally discovered my curly hair kind of like you did. Now I'm learning how to actually take care of my hair and I think/hope it'll end up like yours now that I actually know how to manage my "Merida" hair. I'm so excited!

aw, this made me so happy. i LOVE seeing girls find & appreciate their curls. i was a lil skeptical at first by the title, with the word “curl” in there. only because a lot, not all, white girls *I* know have zero curl & will just scrunch their hair with mouse & call it curly. but after watching.. wow, you have for sure always had curly hair & the thought of you brushing your curls when younger makes me cringe ngl. my heart hurts for those curls😹 you & your hair are beautiful! 😻

Girl, I haven't related to anyones hairstory as much as yours, we have the exact same hair type, and to see that someone else has struggled with the same puffy thick hair problem, while all your friends has straight sleek beautiful hair, it's so annoying, but I have also come to a stage where I have figured out my hair, I wash it once a week, I never brush it, use all the good stuff, hair mask, good conditioner, oils, and my hair has never been better, so sis, so glad to hear your story! Your hair is soo beautiful❤

Giirl!! I can totally relate. I am not a fan of the curly girl method either. And I'd recommend to anyone to please try different products, try silicones, figure out the best routine for your hair, on your own. Every hair type is different and me having 3b to 3c hair, I've grown up with curly hair, I had it all my life so I had a couple more years to try out what really helps my hair instead of following a questionable routine someone came up with, that suddenly blew up.

Your curl pattern is pretty much exactly the same as mine. I didn't know I had curly hair, either..lol Like you, I spent years using the flatiron and felt like I was always fighting a losing battle. When I started doing research on how to get my hair to grow and stopped using heat, that's when I realized I have curly hair! What products do you use? Most of the curl creams I have tried are too heavy for my hair. Your hair is beautiful!

My 13yr old babygirl has beautiful natural curls. She gets fustrated because one side is very less curly. I'm glad you mentioned the brushing, I have constantly and constantly told her NOT to brush hair, to use the big comb for curly hair & also when hair was beyond the most natural beautiful curliest was when she didnt even brush it nor comb it. She also desires straight hair, but I told her to embrace her natural beautiful hair& i also mentioned to her that most of us gals just want the opposite of what we have, lol! I have straight fine boring hair, curls don't last on my hair more than past 15mins, even perm dont stay after 2weeks, and hairspray wont even hold my hair... but I have learned a few tricks here and there to give some volume naturally. I luuuv natural curly hair♡ but I have learned all of us gals have our own hair beauty& just have to figure out the right touches to naturally bring out that beauty shine out🥰💖 your hair is so beautiful & amazing, luv your volume& curls💖💖💖🌺🍃

y’all are literally putting so much effort into deciding wether she has “curly” or “wavy” like sis -.- let her be 😂 regardless it LOOKS GOODT. those are most definitely, curls. idk who looks at that and says *oh wow! look at your waves today they look so pretty* because it’s not ringlets? it’s not considered curls? what the fuck 😂
@Toppdash4 жыл бұрын
Curls are curls, waves are waves. Theres a reason why they are 2 different words. Nothing wrong with wavy hair, it's just misleading for the curly girls coming to this video expecting to see somebody with their hairtype.
@Amorazula4 жыл бұрын
Sone Foreva I get what you mean but based off her thumbnail you would see the *type* of curl she is referring too so it wouldn’t be misleading. at the end of the day her hair does curl. these are curls. look up waves and curls and she is considered to have curly hair, it doesn’t have to be “ringlets” “tight curls” “curls at the roots” etc to be considered a curl. now we have a bunch of girls with her hair type hesitant to call their hair curly because someone on the internets going to tell them it’s not curly. the logic i see down this video is compelling af.
@Toppdash4 жыл бұрын
@@Amorazula the definiton of curl is: noun 1. something in the shape of a spiral or coil, especially a lock of hair. "her blonde hair was a mass of tangled curls" So yeah no, its not curly because those aren't spirals or coils. If it's not a spiral or coil it's not a curl. Even if is not that misleading, people will start being confused about their hairtype if we keep spreading misinformation like this. I don't get why people get so defensive either when we explain that their hair is wavy and not curly, like curls are not superior to waves or anything. If anyone is hesitant about their hairtype then just look up the hair type chart and defintions and thats it. It's not like anoyone is suffering because their hair is wavy and not curly, it's not that dramatic lol.
@Amorazula4 жыл бұрын
Sone Foreva wavy is still considered from the curl family though... as a 2B diagram would show. it seems odd for people to get so meticulous on a curl or wave. she isn’t misleading anyone. when she put both “curl and wave” because everyone clearly has their own opinion on her hair. no ones being dramatic lol except for the people knit picking her hair. when she’s just explaining her personal hair journey story.
@Toppdash4 жыл бұрын
@@Amorazula Where did you get that information from? A curl is a spiral. If it's not then it's not a curl or from some "curl family" that literally makes no sense, sorry. It's not a species, it's literally a hair shape and texture. Look at the defintion of curl. If it is anything besides the defintion then it is not that. You can't just listen to what some curl blogger tells you and look at that as a fact. Her hair is clearly wavy and not going into spiral so yeah it is misleading to put "curly" in the title since her hair is not that, even if she added in "wavy". The people "knit picking" are just saying facts it's not an attack in anyway.
