What works for me might work for you if you want to try it. My halibut setup its quick and easy. I used to use leadhead jigs but the body would rip from the hook or just doesn’t do as well, trolling with this setup seems to produce for me and hopefully for you too.
A little gripe in the beginning of the video so sorry for that.

Yeah sometimes the simple things works the best and it’s simple. I even went with less gears now, took the dodger out and use a curly tail grub and it works like magic. Thanks for watching!

Sorry for you're bad experience man, that's happened to me, it wasn't a local store but the manager said he fished local all his life and knows the water. "no I don't carry that" "that won't work" "you sure you know what you're looking for." stuff like that at a store is like no go. Glad you still came through with a video man. Want to try that rig out!

Thanks and all good, I just won’t be spending my money there again I’ve been shopping there way before I kayak fish so over 7 years ago. I’ll go elsewhere for my goods plenty of shops especially I’m always at the coast too. Yeah that’s just small minded thinking to tell you that your stuff won’t work or if you even know what your looking for? You know how to fish for your fish and used what worked for you and it works so why change or buy only what they sell or offer. I have guys telling me that too when I’m up at the lakes thinking I’m crazy for using big lures till they see my fish. But yeah we all catch in our own ways and it works for us. Yeah man try it out see if the rig works for you, good luck when you go. I’ll be back out there again for crab opener so see you out there.

White works from the ocean to the bay in The Delta and valley lakes I've caught halibut rockfish stripers trout crappie etc all on white colored lures jigs plugs reaction baits plastics etc., squid is white I'll also use white plastic worm trailers while trolling for stripers and 3 years in a row now have also caught salmon in the delta something about white maybe it's just that fish see it I don't know
@Adventurewithnhia
@Adventurewithnhia 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I don’t know why white is such an effect color, I mimic a lot of fish and squid or food. Easier to see and just a good color that can’t go wrong. I have not catch a salmon on white yet but almost everything else on white, like bass fisherman says you want three colors a light color like white, a dark color like black for dirty water and a natural color for clear water days. I’ve seen people use crazy color patterns like yellow, orange, red and a mix or blue or green in a lure for halibuts. Stripers I get more on fire tiger color and white. But that’s good info on that white works all around.

@@Adventurewithnhia I'm not sure how deep you fish but colors are less important the deeper you fish. I believe red loses its color first while blue and purple keep their color the longest

@@johnr153 Thanks for the info, yeah i fish in like 20-60ft of water. california waters are pretty shallow and most that i have caught is in the 35ft. i like trying out new color and different profile for testing.

Nice video, I like the setup for those days I don’t use bait. You said you paid $7 for the weight, how many oz is that ? I get my weights from fishery supply store on 978 Story Rd in SJ for less than $3 for 12 oz egg or torpedo style. The people working in that store are nice too.
@Adventurewithnhia
@Adventurewithnhia 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah it’s pricy here in town that’s why I only bought two. It’s I think $6.59 for 16oz weight ball or torpedo. In Morro bay I think it’s under $5 for 16oz and 12oz are like $3.50 or some like that, I load up on weights when I visit Morro bay. I’ll have to check out Fishery Supply and get some stuff from them when I come back from HMB and see what else they have. Yeah I like nice stores with nice workers/owners, I’ll shop more and buy more if the workers don’t look at me like I’m trying to steal or lie to my face. But definitely I’ll have to check out that shop you say in San Jose. Thanks!!

Yeah plenty of other fishing shops to go to without the following you around and lying. I’m glad Fresno has Turners Outdoors and Sportsman’s warehouse. It used to be fishermen’s warehouse but they were the same as Valley Rods and Guns poor customer service. Fishermen warehouse went out of business a while back, Drive the customers away.

what kind of rod you use for this setup? rod length, power, etc...
@Adventurewithnhia
@Adventurewithnhia 3 жыл бұрын
I use 7ft one piece ugly stik catfish/striper rods (I think both medium fast), I also used it on my ugly stik tiger elite 7ft one piece medium fast. I just bought a new carbon fiber rod also 7ft one piece medium fast just because on a kayak 7ft is a great length to cross over the front and back of the kayak and still have plenty of quick power but not too long to just be in the way. I like medium fast as it has a good backbone to pull up the fish and a fast tip to give you that extra bend and sensitivity while soften the head shakes.

where does the weight go
@Adventurewithnhia
@Adventurewithnhia 3 жыл бұрын
The weight goes on the bottom eye of the triple swivel, add a lighter fishing line in weight so if you get snag you break off the weight and not the fish or lure+dodger. Leader line I usually do 7 inches to about 20 inches depending on the day. Triple swivel: top eye to main line, middle eye to lure/bait, bottom eye to weight.
