I played St. Andrews by doing the show up early thing years ago. Got there at 4am and found out I was 16th in line. Asked the starter my odds ("not good lad"). Enjoyed the day in the village checking in from time to time, moved up to #7 by early afternoon. The course offered to take anyone who wanted to play the Jubilee over there on a shuttle. Four people accepted and I went to #3, but it was after 2pm, so I was thinking I'd have to get up even earlier the next day. Then the next to last group was a no-show. Four open slots, three of us standing there. The starter looked at the us and said, "you're on the tee!" Whadda stroke of luck and whadda great day!

The Jubilee is great, too, if you get a chance to play. The New and Jub are both excellent courses.

I only had one trip to Scotland in my golfing life. Years ago. We went up in June for 3 weeks. When we got way up north we could tee off at 11pm and go round in that permanent twilight after the pubs closed. Wonderful Playa.

Love this Scotland series so far. I have to say Cruden Bay is the most aesthetic course in my eyes so far. Towering dunes, bowl greens. Absolutely superb for a playa 😍

I have never seen Cruden Bay so calm, what a night. Matty I know you’re too young to remember this but playing these courses with persimmon woods makes a lot of sense. Easy to control, lots of run out and Old Tom would approve 🏌️♂️👍

I played the old course years ago. A friend is a member of a Royal course and apparently they have resiprocal rights with other royal courses. Played there, Royal Aberdeen and Carnousite. Anyway, we played on the day and it was great, but I played awful. Had our names on the ballot for the next day as well and got the following day also. Shot an 85 which I was very happy with. And natrually got the picture on the Swilican bridge as well.

Cruden Bay is a joyous place to play golf. First time I played it I could remember almost every hole six months later because each one is a completely different puzzle to solve. I could see you thinking your way around the course. Picking the wrong line can make some holes really tough. Some of your recoveries were epic! I want to play it again soon.

Cruden Bay is awesome. Our caddies when I played were mostly sons of people who helicoptered out to pull multi-month shifts on the North Sea oil rigs. Edge of the planet type stuff. 👍🏼👍🏼

Confession time I have been watching your videos for a couple of years and can credit you for my enjoyment of golf been high even when I’m having a shit round. I will also credit your advice is what has got me to a 9.7 handicap. But I have only just now subscribed to your channel for some reason I had in my simple mind that I had already done this when I first found your channel. Very sorry keep up the great work

I was a student at St.andrews many years ago. We played the Old Course a few times, always early in the morning 5.30 tee off or something like that, from memory we didn't have a problem booking a tee time. Usually though we played the Eden course which was more adapted to our level. The New course was a gorsey nightmare and best avoided!

It is a brilliant golf course, completely different from the Old Course. Absolutely no comparison, apples and oranges. Can't say one is better than the other, honestly... The ballot is where they draw names and call them and offers an available tee time. The person then either can take or leave that tee time but it’s their only shot so most people just leave the day free so if hey get the call they can make the tee time.

The King's course video you posted show you teeing off at a mix of yellow (first 5 holes) and white tees, which would not be a legal score to post. Also curious, how did you come to the -2 adjustment? The wind didn't look all that bad on the Turnberry course that day.

This guy is such a head case. He will take any club but driver off the tee. He used to drive the ball well. Now he hits bad hybrid shots and brings bunkers into play with a 6 iron. I understand picking targets but you’ve got to be confident with driver on wide fairways.
