I think as long as you keep it well watered it should do well, I think the pot size matches the roots well. I would be tempted to plant a layer on sphagnum moss on top of the soil to keep the soil moist!

Thanks Nigel! I hope you are right. Thanks for the advice on Sphagnum. I tend not to do it as moss will grow anyway given time in my climate. 🙂👍

I agree with Alex but fortune favours the brave. Definitely agree with Nigel about the sphagnum. Sometimes I get totally beaten by the bad roots on some of my trees and just give up on a ceramic pot for anohter year. I might have taken that approach with this one and givene it more soil and a depper recovery pot for another year or two. No right or wrong answers in this hobby :)

Thanks Xav. Yes you May be right I was a little bit locked on target here. So far I have never failed a repotting, hope this one is not the first.🙂👍

Very ambitious Magnus! I think it may have been a better choice to use a bigger pot so the tree can regain some vigour and also grow more fibrous roots ready for a bonsai pot in the next few years. It's a great tree, do you have any photos or videos of it in flower?

Thanks Alex. I do agree that the pot is a size too small. But that was the one I had. Living up here and basically forced to get most pots online from Germany poses a few challenges. I think there are enough space for fibrous roots. I am sure the tree is showed in flower in one of my greenhouse updates from last year. 🙂👍

@@greenmachinesweden I'm sure it will do. Perhaps it'll just need a bit more protection from the elements this year. I know what you mean about pots mate. It can be difficult and/or expensive to get the right one here too.

Shame about those roots it is a nice tree. Maybe more luck in the future with it 👍

Thanks Rob! Not easy to know how the roots looks before one dig them up. If it makes it, there will be a second chanse to work on it. Then the hardest part is done.🙂👍

You are certainly more ambitious/experienced than i am, that was a scary repot. Hope it recovers well. When you did the 360 veiw at the end i noticed the thin bar branch 13:38 which will be directly left and right of your proposed front. Is this something you will look to remove in the future? Thanks

Thanks Andrew. I think it is more ambition than experience 😅🤣. However, how could I know before srarting the work? I will definetely look into bransch selection come next spring. The handlebars down low is one of the issues. The straight line heavy branches another. There are plenty of time to figure it out. Now focus is on recovery. 🙂👍
