A great lesson I learned as a PGY2 that has helped me a lot is creating dot phrases for common complaints. Reading up to date and check to make sure I'm asking all the relevant questions helps to streamline my thinking, physical, and planning portion. The EMR can be your friend.
@ShaunAndersen
@ShaunAndersen 4 ай бұрын
That’s a really good idea. Any ideas how I could create something like this outside the EMR? We use MediTech which makes it hard to have templates /:
@DanielRuizDrums
@DanielRuizDrums 4 ай бұрын
@@ShaunAndersen What’s up Shaun, been watching since you were about to start med school! I’m currently a PGY-2 in PM&R and used Meditech last year at my TY. If you have dictation software at your hospital, you can create templates (commands) through that (even as simple as a signature, full physical exam, progress note physical exam, etc). Apart from commonly presenting complaints/issues, you can also add a command for a general A/P template as well for other cases. Otherwise, you can have a word doc or something with your faves to copy paste. Good luck, love the content!
@ShaunAndersen
@ShaunAndersen 4 ай бұрын
@@DanielRuizDrums yo this is actually fire advice! I didnt think to start adding more shortcuts to the dictation software. I am totally going to start doing that this week man! thank you! And best of luck with your second year!

As someone who has decided to pursue medical school late, I am truly inspired by a person like you. As of now I am a sophomore in undergraduate that is majoring in math, and I have just started the pre-med requirements over this summer. I shadowed a neurosurgeon and loved it, but I stay hopeful because I am constantly doubted by others given my unique academic background. Anyway, I wish you the best of luck on your journey. Keep grinding!

You are the only resident who admits the truth about learning documentation. Most residents feel the same way, they just don’t admit it. (Hint: if you’ve already asked your senior the same question twice, ask an RN next) My husband is a pharmacist and loved being a part of the hospitalist team.

@@keyantaembden6452 CC is Chief Complaint - why are you seeing the patient, what is the reason for the encounter, or what are you following them for. For each problem they have that you are managing, state if the problem is stable, improving, or not improving. Then state what the plan is for each problem- such as, increase Lasix to 40mg daily, or continue with Amlodipine 10mg daily and return in 3 months. If diagnosis is unknown, state the labs or imaging you are either ordering or considering.

I was doing my pre requisites for nursing and switched to become a certified surgical technologist. My clinical was interesting and stressful. I was working full time, going to school full time and doing clinical. I only got 4 hours of sleep. How I don’t miss that! Sadly, I was in a bad car accident. The injury to my cervical and lumbar has prevented me from working in the OR as a surgical tech😕.

I'm a nurse and I feel you with the charting woes. Charting has always been my arch nemesis. I worked a little over 10 years in the ICU and I always stayed late because I take care of patients, not computers. That and I have ADHD hehe. But you can do it! Also...listen to your nurses! hehe

Love watching these! Can you (or do you) do notes from home? Also, would having an iPad help with work?
@ShaunAndersen

I could do notes from home! Right now I really want to try to not take work home though haha & yeah having one could help! I find it easier to have a paper that I can put into my pocket though haha but sometimes I will take notes on my phone
