My love for hawks began in 2012 when I found out they had just added 2 cameras over a hawk nest on the Cornell Campus in Ithaca, NY where a pair of Red-Tailed Hawks had set up housekeeping. There are many of us who have faithfully followed this beautiful family thru the good times and sad and can hardly wait for spring to arrive so we can follow the newest family (always have had 3 eggs and 3 chicks fledging). When I found your channel I was excited to watch how Carol would fit in your family. She is beautiful and looks like she's happy with your family. There are several of the Cornell group who are falconers so we learned first hand (and have watched them work their birds) why they love doing this. Will love watching Carol free fly and return. That's something spectacular to watch and experience. You're VERY lucky to have her. Yes, I'm jealous!! :) But I'm an 81 year old great-grandma. Wish I'd found this hobby when I was much younger as I LOVE animals of all kinds and falconry would have been fascinating to experience. Good luck with your land purchase and home building experience. Love your family.

Fun video Maxx, Carol is coming along nicely. Property ownership is a great idea no matter what, as long as you can afford it. If you dont like being that "off-the-grid" you can move. Building while living in a motorhome is not ideal. Just build your house then move in. Your wife says she is all for it now, but being that far away from Target and Costco can take its toll.

I'm legitimately getting anxious about the prospect of her taking off but even more so I'm excited to see her actually maintain that bond and fly straight to you. Keep this stuff up, also just gotta say. I'm Canadian but without a doubt you're living the American dream

I just want to say, I stumbled upon the first episode of this series by accident one night, and once I finished I had to watch the second one. When I found out that this was an ongoing thing and unfinished, I got excited. I've always wanted to get into falconry but I simply couldn't afford it as I'm barely 19 lol. In other words, thank you for letting me experience this through these videos. It only makes me more excited for the future as I plan to become serious with this kinda thing later on in life. Please, if you free fly her and she comes back, make more videos on her. It's so very interesting to watch and see how she acts towards you and what you do to care for her. Keep up the great work man. I think she'll come back to you btw, you did make her fat after all hahaha

Trust me you want telemetry. She may be great and always come back to you but all it takes is another outside force to cause her to run like another hawk, eagle, crows and what else. My father always used telemetry even on his oldest most faithful falcons. I was lucky enough to be the son of one of modern falconry's greatest falconer and breeder over the last 60 years.

I was reading the Kentucky DNR site last year for hunting season dates and saw there was a falconry season. That sparked my interests since it had a link to all the rules. I read the information and was amazed at how regulated it is and how you have to catch your own bird. It was pretty involved. I am glad your doing the video series. I saw the one where you caught your halk. That was one of the things I was wondering about when reading the regulations. How does one catch a halk. Keep up the good work and I hope your halk stays with you. It would be cool to see you both hunt.

My sons life long friend is into falconry. He stopped by my place and put on a little demonstration. He’s bird flew three houses away and lit in a tree top. He gave the return signal and just like that she come swooping in. I got say it pretty cool seeing that all in play. As for the house expect to pay a pretty penny to get electricity routed, especially if the power lines are far away. The rest is easy peasy; just make sure your budget can handle it. Nobody ever brings a build in on budget. Have some extra $$$ in budget.

Carol is a cranky ole girl because she needs her FIBER lol! She'd never have a perfectly rendered piece of meat in the wild. I'd say save yourself some effort and just quarter the entire quail/mouse/rat/squirrel and give it to her. She'll know what to do and be happier and healthier for it. Plus it's less work on your end :) I came across your channel because of Carol and stayed because you and your family are so awesome. Thanks for documenting the process! I have been interested in birds of prey since 4th grade and seriously considered becoming a falconer back in '05, but decided to travel the world instead. If I can set up my own land and property, I'd definitely consider it again. I'll live vicariously through you in the meantime!

Hawk is not ready. At 4 weeks her response to the glove without seeing meat on it should be ZERO hesitation when called. I fear with her not waiting to come to the glove while being over weight that bringing her weight down anymore is going to cause those bad habits you mentioned to come back. My sponsor told me when i first started that not all hawks are good falconry hawks. The first one i got was awesome and the second one was not a good falconry hawk. Good luck with her i hope you can get the problems worked out and get to hunting with her.

Well off grid is fairly easy to do and not even close to as expensive as everyone makes it seem. We did fine on 3- 300w panels and half a Chevy volt pack. Then added on from there for powering more than basic necessities.

Heh. Bird box... Anyway... Actual homesteaders may disagree with this advice but I recommend that if you can afford to, instead of selling your home put it up for rent. That way if you decide that homesteading really isn't for you you can always come back to your home, and in the meantime your home will have been generating you some income. Food for thought.

I'm curious of the estimated total start up cost just for equipment, hoods, bird box, traps, food etc. Mews would be difficult to estimate as some already have an enclosure they could convert. Family is beautiful! Wife cracks me up! When you asked her if she had fun while she was walking away; I can't tell if she answered you or not. That made me laugh out loud. I'm glad you showed everyone that even young children can be involved. People need to see that. Having land like that would be perfect for this lifestyle. im liking that their is a falconry journey beginning and that your making episodes on them but being a falconry myself i can tell theirs a lot for you to learn, feather don't have any nutritional value but they will produce a cast which will help clean the crop of the bird, and i would say cover the ledges in the avairy just because birds can see them and try to perch on it and possible break a feather
@wallsride11635 жыл бұрын
my bad must of missed that bit but yer intestine not much the but some bits and min but the heart lung liver are great for the bird rats quail mice and steak are all high quality food rabbit and day old chick are considered low quality just because they hold less nutritional value. id say defiantly invest in telemetry great for when you birds out of sight quick find and last thing id probably say is keep food out of sight of the bird until calling or feed because they can see it as taking your keeping it from them and then can get temper mental not fun for no one ahah any way mate keep up the episode cant wait for some hunting vids
