My Hero Academia 7x 1 & 2: "In the Nick of Time!" and "Specter" // Reaction and Discussion

7X1: I love how AFO is like, "If I steal her quirk, the rest of the battle will be easy". And yeah. He's right. The power to assign rules over reality is super broken. We kinda saw hints of words being powerful before with the kid who has a manga for a face and can speak things into existence based on noises he makes. But this is a whole different level. If Shigaraki wasn't currently having an identity crisis, Star would've basically one or two tapped him. And yes, Star is the little girl All Might saves in the beginning of the first movie, two heroes. Speaking of Shigaraki, we see that Spinner is with AFO's real body. Now, we saw that AFO asked Dabi, Skeptic and Spinner to protect him last season. But Skeptic is off getting the remnants of the Liberation Army and Dabi is off doing his own thing. Toga is off in some alley. Only Spinner is with AFO. Now, normally the League sticks together(with Dabi occasionally being the one to run off). But that was when Shigaraki was in charge. This is AFO. The rest of the League don't have that connection with him like they do with Tomura. So they aren't hanging around 24/7. Only Spinner sticks around(presumably to keep an eye on whatever AFO does to Tomura). Speaking of Tomura, we see him fighting back in this episode. AFO said Tomura is surpassing both his and the doctor's expectations. And the fact that he still hasn't been fully taken over speaks to that. His hatred is so strong that it can hold quirks at bay or even fight them off. AFO plans to use Tomura's hatred to push through OFA. But it also works in another way. That same hatred is what's keeping Tomura from being completely swallowed up. It all started in that house. With a grain of hate. That built upon itself. 7X2: I love how smug AFO is. "Oh. I knew those comics had a different ending than the one I wanted. So I simply decided to stop reading." During his speech to Yoichi back in S5, he said he would simply remake reality if he didn't like it. But when he got his hands on a quirk that could basically remake reality, it quite literally blew up in his face. And Shigaraki's. Speaking of which, it seems to be even harder to tell the distinction between who is currently in the driver's seat. Because at one moment we see AFO thinking back on his own memories with Yoichi. But a few seconds earlier we saw Shigaraki say, "I can control decay now" and he thinks back on his fight in S6 when he woke up. It just shows how much AFO and Shigaraki have melded together. Which is honestly pretty scary. As we saw in this episode, Shigaraki basically has a nasty combo. He can immediately steal someone's quirk and then decay them once he's done. And his regeneration isn't anything to play with either. He went from having no hair and looking like bacon that had gotten a bit too burnt to perfectly fine in a few seconds. Star went out with a smile though. She understood that it was over the moment her face was grabbed. So she already had a contingency ready. A way to destroy Shigaraki from the inside out. Also, this is the second time AFO has made fun of someone for not being alive. Savage. Star gave everything to buy the world just a little more time. Because All Might inspired her on that day. Rest in peace, Cathleen Bate. She left Shigaraki and AFO with one final message. That as long as someone inherited the will of a hero, they would be struck down. And inside the mass of Shigaraki and AFO, we see Tenko Shimura think of Midoriya.

I'm so so so excited to see you guys watch this season. As a manga reader, (No spoilers) the events of this season happened almost two years ago for us in the manga. It's wild to see it transformed into animation. Manga readers might be more critical about how particular events are portray, but the fact that they are animated at all is always so exciting to see. This series started in the beginning as being so wholesome and optimistic, but it's grown to cover so many dark topics and so many dilemmas that force you to understand that these children have been forced into a war that is so far out of their control. They have the optimism of youth working for them, but they're also having to deal with so much trauma and despair at such a young age and being forced to work though it. It's also important to recognize the adults that step up to help and guide them through this trauma and lift them up. A large part of this whole series is about creating a stronger next generation that can survive ordeals that current generation cannot live up to. It's about realizing that the potential of the future is handed down to the children who follow in your footsteps, and that guiding them in the right direction is crucial to not only their survival, but the future as a whole. It's a lesson that should be upheld no matter what kind of world you live in. Real or fictional.

i'm glad to see you guys reacting, and yeah we were all upset to see Star die so quickly - but it couldn't be helped because then where would that leave the mc and the final war arc lol sidenote: your comment about if Star had OFA and New Order making her the strongest in the world is true, but if she got it from All Might as a child, she'd be dead now. If you recall, having a quirk already makes the person's lifeforce get depleted. One of the users died of 'old age' and he was 40 years old. Star died, right now at the age of 42. So Deku would have had to transfer it to her like right now, for her to be able to use it and not die right away.

Tbf since ofa automatically buffs up the power of each quirk, it's possible that the ofa enhanced new order could've kept her alive simply by placing a constant rule on herself or on ofa itself. Something like "ofa will exist harmoniously within my body without side effects."

@@Ebyruchan But wasn't the point that she has TWO slots for orders? She only uses one in most cases since the other is buffing her body. I understood it as she managed to poison the quirk by stealthily dropping her personal buff in exchange for setting the poison, while broadcasting her use of the order she normally keeps free to create the one about not decaying as a bait to ensure he took the quirk, since she recognized she had already lost when he survived the missiles. So in the One For All scenario, she could just dedicate the slot she uses on her body to taming OFA's side effect instead, and OFA would manage the physical buff passively instead.

I’m just not really a huge fan of anime openings credits that spoil major key plot points of the season, and this show is notorious for it. That’s why I skip watching the OP until the end of the season. I didn’t know they put Tohru Hafakure right there. That’s crazy even for this show’s standard.
