I'm not there yet to be honnest. But I have an adventage : I have learned how to handle weapons. Medieval ones, and how to fight in armor. I think i'd just go out with a warhammer to avoid lethal connections and beat the crap of these guys by smashing their bones out of their skin. Yeah, i wouldn't be able to take on a nomu, but with the proper training and equipment, I would help with keeping peace in the streets from the small packs, and take a few its from the heavy hitters. Steel is stronger than flesh.
