Had a little chuckle when you said your Missus not overly keen about going out on the mountains wild camping. Same here, my lovely lady does not mind going past a mountain in the car, with the heating on, and ending up having a nice seat in a Country pub next to the open fire and a nice hot meal handed to us by a waiter. Lovely tent and also looking for a two to three man tent for next winter. This might be on the list, who knows. Thankyou Paul for sharing!

Owning and using a Nallo 2 for over 30 years. Mine isn't sloping to the back. About 5 years ago the groundsheet coating started to fail. I contacted Hilleberg and for a € 120 got a brand new groundsheet fitted to the innertent. Took roughly 3 months but you cannot see anyway that it isn't the orignal groundsheet. Regarding the strenght have been into a lot ofnbad weather. Even as nasty that on a morning I woke up was standing in a large (100*100 meter) pool almost 10 cm deep created by a heavy thunderstorm at night. No leaks, although the water was almost at the top edge of the bathtube floor. I use the tent also in the summer. Yes it can be a bit hot but knowing how to play with the pitching to create airflow helps a lot. What also helps is that I know that when hell breaks lose I will have the only tent on the campsite that will survive it 😊

Really it's that waterproof crazy I'm just starting to look at these tents right now Thanks for that comment I just asked someone else on another video how waterproof and how realistically can you leave these outside for without them leaking?

I've owned the Nallo 2 for 30 years now. It's still like new. It's the only tent I trust in Northern Finland, out in the Lapland wilderness-way past the Arctic Circle, near the border of Norway's mountains. I also own the Hilleberg Unna, which is freestanding. After 30 years, it's still in great condition. It's funny that they advertise it as a one-person tent when the floor width is actually 110 cm! My partner and I, both elders, fit into the Unna just fine. Contrary to Hilleberg's site description, the Unna does have a vestibule area. The triangle doorway (with the guy line drawn out) provides enough space to store both of our gear. For a lighter option at 1.8 kg (400 g less), one could choose the newer freestanding Hilleberg Niak. Despite their claim that it's for "summer season only," by Hilleberg's standards, it's practically a 3-season tent. These have been the best tent purchases I've ever made.

The best tent I’ve used in my 14 years of camping from the age of 6 (now 19) is my Vango banshee 300. Great 2 person tent for 1 person and a bag and still works well for 2 people and bags has great vestibule area. Used it wild camping in Peak District, Cairngorms, Exmoor and Cornwall. When sharing a tent camping we split the tent. One of us carries the tent and the other carries poles and pegs and a couple extra bits. Has openings both sides. But loved it for gold DofE and wild camping. Taking it to South Korea in august for a month and a bit.

I have the Nallo 2, which has enough space for me. I’ve used it in extreme wind, cold and snow, and it offers a secure shelter and enough space for those days when you are snowed in.

I bought the Nallo 2 about a year ago. First time I used it I was in two days of hard blowing snow - very strong winds - and I was comfy and secure for the two nights. No regrets. Turns out that the Nallo 2 weighs the same as my Soulo, but with a LOT more space. Great tents.

I’m a dedicated Soulo owner; it’s marvelous. My previous tent {and the only tent that can compete} is a Holubar Expedition. They haven’t been made for 60 years, were very very expensive and as near as makes no difference, custom made. A-Frame style, vestibule, permanent double footprint, and a back door made to mate up with another of their tents. Made in a residential basement near Denver/Boulder, Colorado. Maybe they can bury me in my Hilleberg Soulo. Your new Hilleberg looks just great.

I bought the Allak 2 three years ago for the dog and I. More tent than I’ll ever need in a dozen lifetimes as I’m a fair weather camper. That said, it’s an absolute pleasure own and the quality is superb. It’s a tent for my entire lifetime and I like to think it will handed down to future generations to enjoy.

Great choice Paul! I've had a Nallo 3 for over 20 years and I honestly cannot fault it. Loads of space for the very low weight, really quick and easy to pitch and can stand up to some pretty serious weather. After 20 years it's starting to look a little bit worn, but still going strong. Nowadays almost all of my camping is out of a canoe or kayak, so lightweight is not quite so important. Hence, I'm probably going to switch to an Allak 3 - it's worth the extra kilo to gain the benefits of being freestanding and having two doors. But if you're going to be carrying your tent on your back then a Nallo is pretty hard to beat imho! Enjoy it!

Do you ever take a red label into the snow?
@WayWordWay29 күн бұрын
for several of my red label hilleberg, the one upgrade I am happy that I did was to swap the 9mm poles to 10mm which is possible for almost every red label. I aways get the groundsheets, not for the extra protection, but rather to stop stones, sticks, pinecones etc from jabbing me in the knees on entries and exits. I think they make a fair difference with respect to condensation as well. Good video on a great product. :)

I use the Nallo 2 solo or with two people including my large dog. The dog usually sleeps in the vestibule with the backpack but when its really cold with me in the inner tent. I am fine with the space of the 2 but i can see a bit more could be worth it.

Just got an anjan 2 for all weather except snow. Had a nallo 2 in the past aswell as a nammatj 2. Once criticism I had of the nallo compared to the nammatj is that when you pitch the rear into the wind, the top gets flattend to the height of the small pole meaning that you can only sit up near the front pole in high wind. In the nammatj though, the top does not flatten, giving the same headheight from pole to pole.

I've been wind camping now 25 years and my first tent was a Nallo 2 I still own it along with an AKTO and stika I use the Akto the most for wild camping, I must admit I love the Akto but my Nallo 2 has always been my baby, Well over 800 nights spent in it and it's still like new.

HI Paul, I've had the nallo GT 3 for about 8 years and its almost every tent I'll ever need. Have a Nordisk Telemark 2.2 for bike packing but would rather the extra bulk and weight for the space and robustness of the Hilleberg. Looking forward to seeing your adventures.

You use the Nallo 3 GT for bike touring as a lone cyclist or do you share the weight with a partner...I only ask as I'm torn between getting a 2 or a 3.....that extra room must feel luxurious?? 🙏

I have to say that right after I seen your video I went and purchased the Hilleberg Nallo 3 tent with footprint, and the mesh tent as well. That’s how impressed I was with your video. It got me that excited that I had to have it. that’s one thing I really like is top quality equipment and I don’t care how much it cost. There’s a sleeping bag that’s made by Western Mountaineering and man you could pay $1000 for that sleeping bag and probably the last sleeping bag you ever buy. That’s an interesting company and product as well.

Thank you. Very informative. I was considering a Hilleberg Nallo, Hilleberg Allak 2 or the Terra Nova Southern Cross. If the Nallo is not free standing, then I may have to consider the other choices. Be well. Wishing safe passage and good fortune on your next endeavor.

i got nallo 2 last summer and treated myself a soulo as birthday gift this year. If i made the right decision right away i had bought only the soulo. Nothing wrong with the nallo of course but for my use it would have saved me some money. Not selling the nallo obviously because i know it will be a valuable asset at some point.

Hi Paul, nice review, and I like your enthusiasm. I have a Tarra which is a black label Hilleberg. I have had it at 10000 feet and 55 mph wind in Wyoming, and it just stood like a rock. I am looking at another Hilleberg, but this time a 3P red label. The Nallo may now knock the Allak I was thinking of out of the running.

Horses for courses, wind take a tunnel tent snow and wind take a geodesic. Great vid BTW. The soulo is an igloo designed for snow, in the UK I believe something more wind orientated is more appropriate, for the budget minded the Vango Hydra can take some stick in the winter, the Orion is good in wind. No affiliation just personal experience, I use a Naturehike spider in the summer, tents full of compromises lol.

Part of the reason why I also purchased a Nallo 2 GT was this review. I also have the Soulo BL and others from Hilliberg, but this is for conditions not as extreme, but that would benefit from a large vestibule.

Hi Paul, any chance you could please do a full review of the Nallo 3? We are currently using an MSR Elixir 2 but are looking to purchase a 3 person tent and are considering this one, however we don’t have any local Hilleberg stockists who have them in stock that can demo one. I’ve watched many reviews of the Nallo 2 but it would be great to see one of the 3, showing two mats and two people lay inside and also cooking in the vestibule. Kind regards, Trudy & Pete.

Depending on your budget. "Hyke and Behyke" do a very warm down sleeping bag. I've taken it out during snow and ice and slept in my underwear in it, comes in around £110. If you're looking to spend a bit more you can't go wrong with a Rab. For their down range they start at £220. Again even their entry down bag, for the UK is going to keep you toasty warm in the coldest conditions
