Enjoy my historical love poem to trees (whilst I'm wearing historical fashion) 🌳 Something a little simple, a little personal today as I'm swamped hand sewing the Grape Gown for a deadline.
I wrote this poem a few years ago and included it in a final project for my master's degree (which specialises in poetry). I've written poetry and songs since I was a child, so I thought it'd be about time for me to share one with you all.
May is going to be full of Grape Gown construction content, and I've been meticulously working on the gown which is nearing completion. I'm excited for you all to see!

I've been incredibly busy hand sewing the Grape Gown on a very tight deadline, so here's something personal, short, sweet - a love poem I wrote to trees a few years ago 🌳The poem was a part of one of my MA final projects, so I thought I'd record it, add some footage, and a bit of music. Please turn on the captions if you'd like to see the words written out 🥰 See you all in a couple of weeks for the Grape Gown content! 🍇OH! And thanks so much for 10K and for all your support!

Thanks for sharing this work of yours...Trees are too often overlooked (and underappreciated!) by most that seldom consider their importance to this planet and its occupants...I'm biased of course...LOL...as they have been a cornerstone of my life from planting and caring for them to making things from them...This was a beautiful thing to share...

So glad you enjoyed the video Jay! This is my worst performing video by far, but I’m so glad I released it because it came straight from my heart and from my love for trees.

This poem reminded me so much of my childhood. Growing up I often sought solace in the oak groves that grew in our property. I reminded me of the hot summer days when I would climb one of those magnificent trees and loose myself in one of my favorite books. I wore out my copy of Heidi and lost the cover to Little Women that way. After I dropped my copy of Heidi's Children and caused the glue to break away from the spine is stopped climbing with my books and stuck to just sitting under them. Books were often my favorite escape from growing up too poor to go on expensive summer vacations like all the other kids did. The distraction from wearing hand me downs and thifted clothing instead of new clothes. Looking back there were many happy moments hidden away from the world with my books under those old oak groves. Thank you for reminding me of those precious moments where I had my escape and chance to go on adventures through the well worn pages of the classics. ironically I have been thinking of planting my own little oak grove somewhere on the homestead. Somewhere where I might be able to hang a hammock and have a shady spot to read. I think I need to contact my in maws and have them send me some acorns to plant. ❤️

I’m not sure really! Haha. I learned Russian before English but grew up in the states but have used British spellings since I was a child and I’ve lived in Europe now for the past 7 years, so it’s some weird mix.

Enjoyed very much! You know, watching you dip your pen made me wonder what was in your purse . . . old time traveling ink bottle? Do show us some of these - I enjoy quill and oak gall ink myself, but have yet to buy a traveler's ink well . . .

Thank you!! I don’t use any historical ink unfortunately, just a type of dip ink made in France which I’m now forgetting the name of. But I do have a really wonderful at-home desk inkwell that’s Victorian. I show it in my sewing room tour video 😊

I tried to understand it but I always have trouble with figurative language. Was the end asking if someone was dead and their soul in the trees?
@VBirchwood
@VBirchwood 2 жыл бұрын
I try to leave my poems up to interpretation! The end has a few meanings to me, but yes, death is definitely one of them. Or simply that trees are sort of a big puzzle piece in the circle of life since we all go back to the soil and they then are nourished by that soil.

Ok so I know that this is off topic but does anybody know how to wear Georgian clothing without stays or without boning? Also I have been working on a regency era dress (undergarments included) and it has been hard since where I live does not have Amazon and other things. So does anyone have advice?
@VBirchwood
@VBirchwood 2 жыл бұрын
I’d recommend robes and wrappers of the time, as well as loose fitting gowns. You could also wear jumps instead of stays which are lightly boned or just quilted. They’re more decorative and for a small amount of support rather than to create a strong foundation like with stays
