My Hobie Lynx tipped over, I Almost didn’t wear my life jacket! Surprising catches!

Thanks for the video. I almost tipped my Lynx over 2 weeks ago because I turned the rudder hard while moving almost full speed. I barely stopped it from tipping and I've heard other Lynx owners say the same thing. Other than that I think it's the best kayak for Mt purposes

The Lynx tipped on me too on my 2nd trip on it. Did near the same thing: pedaling fast and turned quick out of a boat ramp and leaned over to the wrong side and flipped. I bought kayak/SUP float stabilizers and the Lynx is rock stable since. I’ll try to get a video up to show it.

First I am glad your ok and sorry about your lost equipment. When you experienced the boat wakes, your instinct to turn into the wake was correct. However, you turned sharply which causes you to lean to the outside of the turn combined with the tipping motion from the wakes added up to your center of gravity shifting to far to remain upright. If someone is caught unexpectedly in that situation just leans into the incoming waves, they should be fine. I share this to help not make anyone feel bad :)

My husband did the same thing in his lynx. I also read somewhere that on the Lynx if you are pedaling fast and turn (or hit accidently) the steering handle that the Lynx will flip easily. I always think I dont need my pfd on also but end up wearing it anyways. Good lesson for all of us. Always wear it.

Happened to me on my 10' pedal kayak in the middle of the ICWW, lost two rods. I had a rope attached to the side for righting it and it worked great. A boater came and checked on me. Glad you are OK. Life jacket always.

Glad you're good. Congratulations on completing your mandatory involuntary bottom inspection. If you fish in tupperware long enuf its not about "if", its when. Now you don't have to do it anymore! (although more practice does sharpen the skill!)

How did you climb back onboard, from the side or the ends? Wondering how difficult it was to get back onboard. I am not a strong swimmer and not overly confident in the water, that is why I am asking. I have thought about using outriggers on whatever kayak I buy, including Lynx.

Consider fitting the AMA outriggers. Tipping over no more. Also, you might find NRS Raku much more comfortable than this PFD

That wasn’t the issue. I had a bungee in my hand as I was going to tie up to a pylon and fish. I was turning sharply, going fast and hit a small wake from a boat, perfect storm!

dude, don't wear rubber boots while kayaking. They are drowning devices and even if you know how to swim and didn't have your PFD on, there is no way to remove them while in water cause they'll suck onto your feet and you'll drown if the water was deep and you couldn't stand up and your yak wasn't close enough to grab! You are lucky.

I'm so confused how you flipped the lynx so easily? Mine is loaded to max capacity with trolling motor that does almost 5mph, and i have homemade just under 2" seat risers. I've had 5ft wakes hit me on the upper Niagara River, and 80% of the lynx is out of the water. It's very scary with the current lol. I've also been out on the lake many times with 25+mph winds and taking 3ft+ waves to the side for 3-4 miles. At some points, the whole kayak will go under water, and it just pops back up 😂. With that said i have flipped it once when i got my lure snagged, and i was leaning way over the side pulling on my line. This kayak is extremely stable but when you cross that point, it will go over fast.

Those were spectacular Whiting. Wow, So were you turning or was there a wave, I couldn't really see what made you list to one side like it did. Glad you are OK, Glad you had a good fishing day. Especially sorry to hear about the loss of the BullBay rod. I love mine. I also have a Lynx.

I turned as sharp as I could, going full speed and hit a boat wake all at the same time! 100% my fault. I now am very deliberate in my speed and turning. I love the Lynx this was all on me. Congrats and have fun!

Oh! Also, I am very intrigued and curious as to how you loaded your lynx inside your SUV. Do you have a video , or pictures? Any details you can share would be very helpful for this new kayaker who has a large SUV. Thanks!

@@roycescobey8979 No pictures. We have a Ford Explorer 2019. I put the front passenger seat all the way up. Leave the seat on the Kayak, take rudder off and push it as far up angled to the passenger side as I can. Sticks out about 3’ and I just bungee the hatchback down. Hope this helps.

The Lynx turns incredibly sharp and hard. At full speed and if you are not prepared what will happen it is like a lowsiding a motorcycle.

The Shark were both on fresh dead shrimp. The Whiting was on the NLBN plastic that I was jigging vertically. That really surprised me.
