Enable the TV's "PC" or "Game" mode and you'll likely see way less input latency. The latency is likely coming from the fact that TVs have a ton of latency by default to do all kinds of color processing for shows and movies. They usually get away with a ton of latency by default since latency isn't an issue because you're not interacting with the TV much in realtime.
@russgaefe15545 жыл бұрын
Nice setup. Thanks for sharing.
@massivesaucer7 жыл бұрын
Really cool man. I have been dreaming of doing the same. The touch latency does not come from your graphics card. It comes from the touch overlay USB communication. Latency is an issue for the IR based overlays that use the USB. 3M has the projected-capacitive overlays with much faster response. PQ labs has some newer products that may improve the latency.
@cristiankoch9347 жыл бұрын
Jayme, I have some questions about updates with your touchscreen. I have a 55" TV and am thinking of doing the same thing. Questions! 1. Do you still enjoy using it and has it given you a faster workflow? 2. Is Studio One responsive with it? 3. If I am to build a similar thing, what major tip would you now give to someone like me about to do this? cheers mate.

I thought a 55 inch tv would make a horrible monitor for a touch screen but after seeing all those controls... Damn, a huge screen is necessary for that sh't!!!
@addictedtothebold8 жыл бұрын
I can imagine how hard it must be having to stretch your arm to reach certain parts of the screen.
@deadbeatstudios8 жыл бұрын
I use touch where touch is within reach, and I use the mouse for things that are too hard to reach. Then benefit is the amount of information I can display without the bezel of extra monitors. But yes, it would be annoying to try and reach the corners or the top of the screen :)
@SergeGolikov6 жыл бұрын
Do you glow from the radiation after each session? I'd be screening and worry about eye strain, great concept though, you could drown in there! LOL Projecting the GIU through a Data projector onto a screen, is also a great idea, I have cut video like that. No touch screen, but maybe some VR interface is possible?
@CaptainVelveeta7 жыл бұрын
Not bad but I did something similar to this and found out it has a down side. When companies make these touch-screen mixers they usually include software with them...the mixing software they provide is native to the operating system so it reacts to changes in display and resolution. ...for instance...when I changed the display resolution on the one I made, everything 'native' to the PC got larger but the mixing software didn't...it remained in it's original scale. And the original scale was designed for mouse pointers, not fingers. (that was frustrating as hell)... If a 3rd party software would increase in scale along with the native software on a PC, this would be a great idea.

@tonelab778 жыл бұрын
4K is awesome, but there's too much small stuff on the screen. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that seems like it would be bad for your eyes over time. That's why Slate uses a 1080p screen. And I love the idea of a large TV but 55" is too big to have to reach across all the time. I'm going to do this but will use dual 46" 1080p panels. I'm sure there's a reason Slate chose what they did, so I figure I'll benefit from all their R&D.
@jacobjohnson47638 жыл бұрын
I use a 40" 4k as a desktop monitor that works excellent. It's effectively the same as 4 20" monitors but with much more flexibility and no bezels in the way. a 55 would be closer to the same pixel density as 4 28" 1080p monitors.
@deadbeatstudios8 жыл бұрын
I use the mouse for those hard to reach areas and use touch when it's within reach. The benefit of the large screen is the amount of information I can display without bezels in the way of multi monitors.

I suspect that the latency is due more to the touchscreen (& interface) than the graphics card. Still, it's a nice excuse to upgrade your card to see if this is the case. I know that's what I'd be doing, despite suspecting that it may not fix the problem. Nice setup.

Hi Jamie. I was wondering if you were still using this system. What your opinion is on using 4k resolution over 1080, and if you have any discomfort with your arm reach when in long sessions sitting behind this 55" console. Do you have to stand up out of your chair a little? etc. Thank you.

Why don't you use the dtouch software overlay? It will give you the multitouch support for protools and all the macros.
@deadbeatstudios9 жыл бұрын
yonatan pandelaki I tried it out initially, the problem is my 4k resolution. The Dtouch isn't quite ready for 4k at this size. It makes the faders about a foot and a half long, because of how the template works. On a smaller screen it would be fine, but this one is far too big. I'm sure they'll be getting to it in the future, but for now I just figured I'd try and code my own. Plus, it's fun :)

are you still happy with this touchscreen? did you upgrade your graphics card since you released this video? if so whats the latency like now? that's the only thing that makes me hesitate doing this. The delay in response would most likely make me reach for the mouse instead and I'm assuming once you install the pq labs overlay there is no returning it.
@deadbeatstudios8 жыл бұрын
I love working on it! Same graphics card, I don't mind the lag. The delay isn't something you hear, it's something you see. The reaction is as instantaneous as your mouse. Obviously some things are better suited for the mouse and not touch, but it makes certain things infinitely quicker :)
