Great work John. Very smart to add the extra insulation. I actually learned how to do muddying and taping with paper tape about 6 months ago. I will never go back to fiberglass tape again. I did an office for my oldest daughter including a painted drywall ceiling and it came out flawless. It turns out the premixed mud must have water added to it to make it high slump, about like yogurt! The paper actually draws the moisture it needs from the mud! You don’t pre-wet the paper like some people claim. Excellent work! I bet Daniel loves it.

Thanks Jerry! I could never get the hang of the paper tape, every time I’ve tried it I’ve had to pull it back out and redo it since it bubbled up.

Was not expecting this to turn into the project it ended up being. Great job though John. Helpful additions to the Room. Looking forward to seeing the completed office.

You and me both, haha. Thanks!

HelloJohn. In environments where there is humidity, different materials should be used. Gypsum-based coatings are not a good idea for these environments. I saw quite a lot of mold. This is the first time I've heard and seen that spray. I used a mold killer 2 years ago. Maybe something like that. I support your idea. Adding extra insulation was the best idea. Congratulations. nice video. I wish you a safe room. all the best. Big greetings. Your friend Mehmet

Thanks Mehmet! Hopefully between the insulation and the airflow there will be condensation collecting so here’s hoping it doesn’t come back. I probably should have gone with the higher moisture rated drywall though, that’s a good point. Have a good one!

Mold is a real PIA. Getting rid of it is a real struggle and balance. Good luck with the full refurb, and hope it holds. At least you got your desk setup ready for now.

Thanks! Yeah it’s been frustrating, basically just don’t have anything touching the walls ever no matter how inconvenient and you won’t have any issues, lol

Danielle sure goes to extremes just to get you to paint a room.

No kidding, she just has to ask. I’ll get to it sometime in the next year!

Wow! What a job. Great work. I am assuming that the paint you used has a mold resistant finish, so you should be in good shape.
@JohntheSchreiner2 жыл бұрын
That would have been a good thing to look for, haha. Basically I was just using the same paint that we had in here before since we already had it. Hopefully the additional insulation and office rearrangement will keep the condensation levels down and it won’t be an issue. Something we’ll have to keep an eye on for sure.

@@JohntheSchreiner actually we did get the mold and mildew resistant paint for in here - ONE of us was paying attention LOL

That is a lot of different skills on display John, well done! I avoid plaster work like the plague... patch work is bad enough, don't think I'd ever take on a whole room, rather pay some poor sap to do it :P
@JohntheSchreiner2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah that’s understandable! It’s almost easier if you are doing a whole room, a lot less start and stop than patch work. Still annoying though, haha

Love the progress you’re making buddy, nice to see you overcoming the hurdles via some elbow grease in you own home & it saves ya a bundle. Is the weather where you live changing a bit ?
@JohntheSchreiner2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dirk! Yeah I think it might be a bit. Winters are getting a little more mild overall, though when we get the heat waves/cold snaps they are getting more extreme.

Great job. Just curious why you didn't go with mineral wool insulation instead of the pink fiberglass? My understanding is that the rock wool insulation is either mold proof or mold resistant whereas the fiberglass is not.
@JohntheSchreiner2 жыл бұрын
That is a good question lol. Didn’t know that for one. And my understanding was that rock wool was more for sound deadening than heat holding, so I just went with the stuff I knew.
@robertgiresi95152 жыл бұрын
@@JohntheSchreiner I'm no expert on rock wool/mineral wool, but I believe it has the same or similar R values. The negatives are that they are bulkier to transport since they are less compressible, more expensive and more difficult to cut. The pro side is that it's sound deadening and mold proof. But if you didn't know about the mold proof part, then you didn't know.

Good to know for next time at any rate. Wouldn’t surprise me if I have to do this again in this house. Actually while we were mid reno on the office I found some more on the opposite corner of the house, but I was able to treat that with some spray since we caught it early enough.

I'm not gonna rip the whole office apart for 4 sq ft. 1 week later....
