When I was 2, my parents brought me from the Philippines to the U.S. so that I (and my sister who was born 2 years later) could have a better life. Since then, I haven’t been home because of reasons such as time and money. But then we were blessed with the chance to go home, which was my wish for my 18th birthday instead of a grand debut celebration. We went to Manila, the beautiful capital of the Philippines, Baguio, the hometown of my father, and Narvacan, the hometown of my mother’s. And not far from Narvacan is La Union, where I was born. Before the trip, I knew I had to do this film justice because I just had a feeling this was honestly going to be the most important project of mine.
Recently, someone asked me why the scenes in the videos I make are mostly short. And trying to answer that question made me realize how easy it is to fall into the temptation of giving people exactly what they want. But I don’t want that. I keep them brief because I want the person who is watching behind the screen to WANT to be there. I don’t want them to feel like they’re already there because personally, that is the beauty of all transient things. Of all the fleeting moments that flash before our eyes and only until after we’ve seen such beautiful moments and sights do we wish we could see them again. I want to inspire the people watching to take risks and go on their own adventures. If I made this into an 8 minute film that had every detail of every video I took, it would be like letting you take the most wonderful experience and all the little things that came with it away from me. because this was my own journey and the things I saw from MY eyes. My goal is to inspire YOU to go out and find the beautiful things in life with your OWN eyes. Because the things you and I see are different. And unique.
I want to dedicate this film to all my family, who unconditionally love and support me wherever they are in the world. To my friends who inspire me every second and bring me joy with their smiles and laughs. And last, but not least, to my late grandfather, Lolo Vic, who passed away on May 30, 2009. This one is for all of you.
Hope this film inspired you in some way!
