Dump the whole almond works into a food processor or blender an give it short bursts to chop the almonds up a tad and replace the mixture back in the jar to extract a bit longer. More surface area equals more area to extract from.

Good morning I remembered making these a couple of days after you did. I used the vegetable glycerin and vodka. I remembered they were in the basement. Pulled out the the grapefruit and baby, both of them are great. My coffee is better with the vodka. Thank for the reminder. I made my labels out of Avery address labels.. You can customize them using the computer with the printer. The stay on even when I use them with infused oils. Yes , the vanilla and raspberry prices have gone through the roof. So thankful for your lesson. I make a lot of medical extracts and had not considered making these. Be blessed and continue to grow and teach us. Peace and blessings.

Goldenrod: fill jar to top with loose fresh flowers & leaves, add vodka to cover and seal and set for 4-6 weeks. Usnea: this one is trickier so you should research it.

Well the alcohol burns off in the baking, I can see making a small amount with vegetable glycerin for non baking purposes like making coffee drinks. I switched to rum in my extracts. Please note after 3 months of storage you will have gotten your full strength of extract with alcohol, you need about 9 months with glycerin. I learned this the hard way, I have stored up to two years on the vanilla, and the three month and the 2 year tasted the same. I use extracts for baking primarily so I will stick to decanting after three months. I do not use my beans over I start with fresh vanilla beans.

Way to go! Your extracts are great! You can make medicinal tinctures in the same manner by making extracts of herbs and spices. Clove, cinnamon, fennel, mullein, echinacea, Joe Pye root, elderberry~~you name it! Then, you have natural medicines on hand. I haven't used glycerin for making extracts/tinctures so I don't have the method on the top of my head, but the methods are all over the internet and it's easy. I will say that I always dry, or at leas wilt "green" herbs (flowers, leaves, etc.) before making extracts so you don't end up with mold from the water content. Love your channel! God bless you.

Thank you so much for showing how to make these! My husband is sober 8 years in May and I love an alternate to using alcohol.

Vegetable Glycerin IS an alcohol. Glycerin is a sugar alcohol derived from animal products, plants or petroleum. Only difference being that the alcohol from glycerin does NOT burn off in cooking or baking (it burns off at 554°F), Whereas standard drinking alcohols DO burn off in cooking or baking (as they burn off at 172°F).

Yes you're right, it is a type of alcohol. The good thing is I dont have to get it from the liquor store or show my ID to get it. 😂 We chose to use vegetable glycerin and we love it so far.

Most people use glycerin because it also does not get you high and it’s safe for children to use.

@@eileensien514 in most states it’s illegal to make even for personal consumption. You would have to try to get the distiller without a license trust me I’ve tried in three different states that I live in.

@@CopperHueCollectionsChippewa - glycerin alcohol doesn't break down in cooking or baking - thus causing the same liver damage as drinking alcohols. That's why commercial extracts use drinking type alcohols for making extracts. That type DOES break down in the cooking or baking process, so no intoxication nor potential liver damage. "Revenuers" won't know if you're doing it for your own use - as long as you're making it in your own home and not selling it nor giving it away to anyone.

Oh coffee extract for baking! Thank you for that pearl of wisdom. I put used canning seals under those lids for an extra layer of coverage. If you do any small mouth jar projects like this, maybe you could use those reject seals you got from China under the lids?

I remember when you made these extract, it was an excellent video full of information and laughter. I made the vanilla extract so far, which is the one I use the most. I used the grade A beans and it looks and smell amazing. Mine is not ready yet, I made it a couple of months after you did. Would love to see you make the raspberry and strawberry syrups, I bet they will taste incredible. Thanks for sharing your recipes with us 😊
