@jesperahman7384 ай бұрын
@@mihkusI believe he did do just that when moving the front axle forward.

When I moved the front axle I gave it about 4 degrees caster but it's still a very exiting experiense.

@@Desmouffe I gave mine 7 degrees, relatively stable at 50mph, but still I woldnt try this on gravel since I have no brakes
@Desmouffe4 ай бұрын
@@mihkus Well, it's a worn out chassie with small cracks everywhere and if you weld them new cracks appear on the side. I changed all the plastic bushings for bronze in the steering and that helped, but there is a lot of backlash in the steering. It's adjustable but not enough. Maybe it's time to find a new home for the engine.

A couple questions hopefully you’ll see!! First off I’m curious why you chose to go with a flat plane crank design? Unless you’re planning on revving this little guy to 6k rpm + I don’t see a lot of reasons? Unless it was far easier to engineer and machine a “simple” flat plane design vs a more complicated but smoother cross plane design. But to add to the conveniency of it being a flat plane , you could create nice exhaust headers with amazing scavenging!! Being as that is also a flat head design having some exhaust scavenging may prove very helpful for a smooth running engin as well as you may be choking the engine with having all 4 cylinders on each bank collecting down to 1 pipe of all the same diameter
@Desmouffe3 ай бұрын
When I started this build I knew very little about V8 engines. I just wanted to build an engine after my own head and see were I ended up. So I looked at a common straight 4 cyl crank and made the crankpins longer. Later I dicovered that the beautiful V8 sound comes from a crossplane crank. But it have it's advantages. It's easy to balance. As you wrote, it is possible to make an exhaust system that works well but unfortunately I'm not very good at working with pipes. The one I have is just because " I must have something". But it's a learning process. I'm getting there. Half way thru the build I wanted to make a new crossplane crankshaft but the material was expensive and it was a lot of work. Then I had to make two new camshafts as well. But, who knows what happens in the future...
@ngelemental22742 ай бұрын
@@Desmouffe You say your not good with pipes but look what you've engineered so far!! For a flatplane design correct me if I'm wrong but I do believe for essentially perfect exhaust scavenging you would "just" have to make two 2 into 1 headers per bank, then eventually connect it down the middle and your lawn mower would sound like a Ferrari or the brand new corvette z06 my friend!!😂😂
@Desmouffe2 ай бұрын
@@ngelemental2274 You are so right. That's what I really wanted to do but I decided to keep it simple. At the time I did not know if the engine should be a flip or a flop. Maybe in the future...
