The system is under carbureted. It needs more air and fuel.

You should have an inlet throat for such a manifold at least equal to 50% of the combined CFM inlet of all cylinders. Therefore, the MINIMUM formula is CFMx1 cylinder x all cylinders x0.5, with an ideal value of x0.66 and a peak value of 0.77

Cooling of heads is more important than cooling of cylinders, no? Specifically exhaust valve area. I'm not saying that cylinders don't need cooling, just that perhaps heads need more. I recall that VW Type III used special tins between the cylinders to better direct the air.

You need to have a heavy flywheel to smooth out idle of a radial engine. On an airplane, the propeller is the flywheel. That's why you don't see people running engines without a propeller on, one is for cooling, other is the flywheel effect.
