Im curious to know how much power this thing actually outputs. I'd guess somewhere around 25 to 30?
@Desmouffe26 күн бұрын
Since it's made from eight 3,5 hp mower engines a good guess is as you wrote 25 to 30 hp. But you have to make a reduction due to a rookie designer so 20 to 25 is my guess. And I don't dare to try to improve that because the lubrication system is very primitive. But now the cooling is fixed as you can see if you look at the rest of the videos.

No. Pistons and valves from 3,5 hp Briggs & Stratton engines. The rest is homemade

whats your timing '
@Desmouffe2 ай бұрын
I started with 15° advance at stand still and hoped that the distributor should increase that to 30° at higher revs but that did't happen so I adjusted it when the engine was running. So right now I don't know exact where I am. Another little thing to look in to. I guess I have to adjust the springs and weights in the distributor.

You could always design and manufacture a supercharger / Blower for that V8.. could even base the internals on the cheap AMR 300 / 500 blowers that are about now😁

The main thing was to try to make an engine. And since it has a vertical crankshaft and was made from lawnmower parts, I thought it woulds be a fun thing to put it on a mower deck. But I think it will move it to a riding mower chassie.
@onmyworkbench70003 ай бұрын
Can it be mounted with the crankshaft horizonal rather than vertical? Is ow does the oil system work?
@Desmouffe3 ай бұрын
It has a little oilsump in the bottom so it has to be this way. Very simple oil system, like a lawnmower engine.

Address the air cooling before engine seizure becomes part of your experience - apart from that, continue having fun

The harmonics sound off to me, like your intake valve is opening when the harmonic pass is going the opposite direction. Have you run the numbers on the harmonics for your intake manifold length and diameter? The 2nd harmonic pass is optimal but understood this is also the shortest possible manifold length. For your application you may want the 4th or even 6th harmonic pass. Beyond the 6th harmonic pass interference patterns begin to build up making such an intake manifold length impractical. Forcing the engine to work against itself just to maintain RPM's, let alone accelerate or even do useful work. You have built up an awesome engine, get the harmonics spot on and you have a show stopping engine! *For the gear heads reading this that have no clue what I am talking about, before you run your mouth and make a fool of yourself, do some research... You can start with Don Garlits, he is the one that laid the ground work for harmonics, among many other things.
