My Homestay Experiences | Indian Homestays

Over last 3 and a half year of visa2explore, i have stayed at many homestays across India, i have found and discovered many unique benefits of doing your night stay at a homestay. I notice that many travellers are aware about this opportunity but they have never tried it.
So in the interest of viewers, i have made this video, Here in this video i have shared my thoughts on advantages of staying in a homestay and i have also shared some of the shortcoming in homestay experience.

I don't have enough experience.on Home stay. Once I stayed in "ODISHA HOME STAY" very close to Rajmahal Square, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. There I found a lot of things about heritage and culture of Odisha. Specially I loved the authentic Odia dish. The Owner, a lady opt me for self cook food if I wish. Really amazing place to stay in. People will fall in love with this place who wish to stay in BHubaneswar.

There are a number of Homestays which are self serviced and equipped with fully furnished kitchen .You have the liberty to cook food on your own .People normally prefers these type of Homestays where duration of stays are longer .Hosts normally don’t stay in the same complex .This segment is becoming popular among the youngsters now a days as privacy is maintained here .Also when you are travelling in a group,its more preferable .Normally these Homestays are away from hustle bustle of city/Bazar area and very cheap compared to other Homestays .

Excellent video. Rightly pointed out the merits and demerits of Homestays. One more demerit : 1. If you are with your spouse and looking for privacy, then homestay are not ideal. Having said that, I hv had 4 homestay experience so far - Goa, USA, Malaysia and Thailand. All four were cost effective and enriching.

I did home stays last year in Japan for 3weeks. It was a great decision as I got to experience Japanese cultute very closely. I plan to book home stays in North east India in 2021. Home stays are much better than hotel stays

I am from jodhpur. You have visited many palace. Ok good job. If you want to know about people . In rajasthan. You should visit village. People ask for free dinner and lunch with curd,buttermilk. It is not possible in cities.

Harishji, during the lockdown my wife and I have watched all your videos, they are just exceptionally good particularly the once you savor the traditional local cuisines is really commendable, you go out of the way to explore the traditional cuisines. When we were watching the picturesque videos of Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Himachal, Uttrakhand and other places we felt in some of the parts where if the sceneic locations were shot by a drone the beauty of the locations would have enhanced more. I strongly recommend you get yourself a drone, ofcourse prior to using the drone you will have to take necessary permissions from the local authorities, since some places using of drones will be banned.

Harish bhai, thanks your videos are so inspiring. On this one, just a word of experience: last year my friends and I travelled to Himachal - Banjar area using homestays. We did not set any high expectations but still a few things changed my opinion. Our hosts never changed the bedsheets, trying to disguise smelly beds with colourful bedsheets. Food was simple dal roti and chicken, but I could feel our hosts were overbooking the number of guests, as a result of which they could not provide a steady supply of rotis for all the guests at dinner. Kitchen hygiene was low because the lady was serving too many people everyday. Bathrooms were not cleaned even once during our stay. We paid Rs. 1000 per room sleeping two plus food priced higher than a local restaurant/dhaba. My thought after that experience was that even though I want to promote local people providing homestays, I would rather pay extra for clean, white bedsheets and decent bathrooms.
