@@RoadTripsWithYogi1968 I worked 2 summers driving for Hometown Ice on 42 and Orchard. It was a blast , as I got a different route each day. Learned all the Southside neighborhoods. one route began on 3rd and Greenfield and ended at 172nd and Greenfield. There were 18 truckers. The full time guys used to arrive at 6:15 in the morning and change the routes. The dispatcher tied to give 1/3 gas stations, 1/3 liquor stores and 1/3 grocery stores for your 18-20 deliveries. The FT guys would flip out their grocery store stops and take 18 gas stations. So by getting a "reshuffled route list " I might begin on 30th and Hampton, made a Brown Deer stop, then a Grafton stop, then West Bend and it is 10 am and I have 15 more stops, then on to Pewaukee, Brookfield and the Sentry warehouse in Waukesha. Soon it is 3 pm ( quiting hour ) and I have 6 more stops, Oak Creek, Franklin and Bay View. Meanwhile the FT guy who did that lived on 32nd and Maple and was done and home by 10 am in his pool. He parked his truck in the front and then drove back at 2:50. Big liquor store owners were not nice folks. No clue why. The day before July 4th a liquor store in Pewaukee on the lake, got a big delivery. My brother also drove for Hometown and made that delivery. I think they had 4 ice boxes in front. My brother fills then up with cubes, block and crushed ice at 8 pm. The owner was there and said something rude to my brother for no reason. before he got back in his truck, he unplugged all 4 boxes. It was a warm night and while that might not seem to be a big deal, it was. Once the cubes melt just a little , people will not buy them. And turning the cooler back on makes the ice one big cube. Aside from the periodic rude liquor store owners, it was a super fun job. Also worked on 8th and Mitchell, and 27th and Wells at Family Hospital when at college. Family Hospital no longer exists , but the area was rough in 1979-1981. I worked as lobby mgr. So many cool stories from what I saw from the huge picture window in the front lobby, to the cops who made the front lobby a pitstop, to all the funny co-workers. The admitting clerk was the one employee who knew everything going on in the hospital, because everyone told her everything. Her stories was beyond funny. I got lucky in some fun jobs.

When will Chicagoland eat up Milwaukee into its population? Chicago has 10 million people but Milwaukee is 75 miles away, about 1 hour and 15 minutes without traffic. That's what it takes for someone to travel from O'hare Airport to Downtown Chicago takes during morning rush hour. Add the Milwaukee area could give us 12 million people. I'm sure people in both areas commute back and forth everyday. The area are no longer separate. Southeast WI, Northeast IL and Northwest IN are all one big megalopolis

If Milwaukee wasn't your hometown (aka no Bias) which would you say is the nicest place to live in, Wisconsin, Oregon, or Texas?

@@RoadTripsWithYogi1968 That's fair! Im from Edmonton, Canada. So any of these would be warmer than where I'm from. I really like how green Milwaukee looks in this video, but I feel like id be missing out if I didn't live in texas since I hear the cultures pretty awesome over there, haha.

Back in the 80's I worked sewer and water. The Milwaukee I know is 27th and Capital drive where litter was everywhere and anything left unattended for 2 seconds was stoled. Then there's State st where every window and door had bars on them. Gas stations where it's pay first. Liquor stores where you tell them what you want, prepay, and then receive through a little door. The problem with tourism propaganda is they don't tell you the bad. They will mention their pro baseball team but won't tell you the cops beat a player for parking crooked in a Walgreens parking lot. They won't mention how much sewer ends up in the lake or that you shouldn't eat the fish from the "beautiful" Milwaukee river.
@RoadTripsWithYogi19683 жыл бұрын
I see the litter everyday when doing my job. It's a shame really how a certain demographic is pigen-holed, but I just don't understand why people have a hard time keeping their neighborhoods clean.

@@RoadTripsWithYogi1968 thanks for saying "pigeon holed" I usually say "scapegoats". Everything is blamed on certain demographics when there is enough blame to go around from all demographics. What things strongly contributed to make those conditions is never talked about by the very same people.

I think a lot has changed since I left Milwaukee in the mid 90’s. It seems cleaner. I don’t know about nicer though, not that being nice was mentioned. heh.
