I grew up in Bayonne! Took drum lessons at Piero's and bought a lot of gear there. I remember buying Star Wars collectibles at Vector's. The old family home was on 34th St. I remember Judicke's - legendary bakery! And the Tree and Trim was around block from me. I remember Hendrickson's too. Went to Horace Mann #6. I wonder if the Rincon is still there? Fam moved out of Bayonne in the late 90s. My Dad had a plumbing company called Allied which he took over from my grandfather. Eventually the plumbing biz was just Crimaldi. A lot of memories here. Thanks for sharing. After living in Asia 18 years I now live in north Texas. But it's hard to find good bagels and black and white cookies. If anyone had any foresight they would have bought those brownstones in Jersey City on the waterfront near my old high school St Peter's Prep LOL.

TY for posting this video. Born in Bayonne Hospital in the 1950s & left Bayonne in the late 1960s. Had lots & lots of family from Bayonne. Most deceased w/ 1 cousin still living there. Lived on Humphrey Ave then moved to W 7th St. We belonged to St Andrews (Bway & 4th). Went to grammar school at St Andrews. (I believe it's now defunct). The park used to be called Hudson County Park then renamed The Bayonne Park. That concrete wall along the Newark Bay is original as are some of the structures. Used to be a fountain which we played with boats in. JFK Blvd used to be named Hudson County Blvd but was renamed after JFK was killed in 1963. Your trip along 1st St was the home of Uncle Milty's Amusement Park (across from the projects). At the tip of Ave C & 1st St (when you made your right hand turn) used to be the Bayonne Ferry, which burned down around 1960. Also, walked across the Bayonne Bridge on Easter Sunday of 1967 & got yelled at by cops for a 10 YO being alone up there. I see many familiar buildings/structures/businesses that are iconic in Bayonne, but lots and lots of changes. Judickes Bakery has been there forever. Bergen Point still has Elbaums, 5th St Deliette, & Bergen Pt Pharmacy. Bayonne was a cool place to grow up in my early years, yet like you we moved out to "greener pastures" so to speak. TY again for the memories! Well done narrative!

I tried to remember Joe's last name but all I get is it starts with a P and sounds Italian. I lost touch in the 80's so it's before your time. But I felt compelled to mention it. And btw, since this vid, they put a tall, bronze statue of Chuck Wepner in 1st St. Park at the end of Ave. C

I loved growing up in Bayonne too! I lived on 49th, off of 1st, East 5th and then 26th. Judickie's donuts were a staple. Hendrickson's used to have an awesome French Onion soup. I used to go to Pompeii all the time for lunchbreak when I went to Vroom. I wonder if I ever ran into you lol. When did the Big Apple close? I used to go to the Downtown diner a lot when I was kid, then the Uptown Diner with the world famous pancakes. My dad used to tell me stories about walking across the Newark Bay back in the day when it could freeze. The Bridge at the Highschool was an absolute nightmare to cross. One thing I love about Benanti's is that the price of a sandwich was dependent on Charlie's mood that day.
