Dude, complain louder about the lack of a dub. Sure some elitists will give you crap, but there are people who will totally skip the game cause of the lack of one and it annoys me exactly the same as you. I totally felt what you were saying, and I played the game on Wii U back in the day too. I almost didn't get it because it lacked the dub, but went back during one of the Wii U game droughts, and the game is awesome! I hate how much the lack of a proper localization hurt the game. Maybe, if enough influencers, such as yourself, complain loud enough, they'll patch one in or release one as DLC, at least

Playing this game with my Nephew and he loves it. It’s the perfect game to ease someone into the larger SMT/Persona games not called Nocturne or Persona 5

@@crimsonomega8310 Because you guys expect everything to be done for you. Games like Skyrim, Dishonored, The Witcher 3, Dragon Age etc rely heavily on the player making saves at crucial points. Going back to missable locations/content makes it almost unmissable if you save effectively. Whoops, didn't save before a certain boss in an incredibly hard dungeon, because you're now stuck with an autosave with low level characters or no items? Too bad, start the game over again. (Looking at you Resident Evil) Get it now?

I absolutly LOVE Tokyo Mirage, is exactly what i was looking to play on my switch... i actually grew to like the pop culture, the thing i was most worried about. One of the TOP games of the year already on switch and a must have for RPGs lovers

I bought TMS and I'm loving it. It's certainly a niche game that isn't for everyone though. Even with me knowing I was in for a very Japanese strange game I had moments of "okay then... what?" There not being an English dub is certainly a little sad but after the first dungeon area I really didn't even notice it personally (it helps that I've been learning Japanese so I'm usually able to figure out some of the dialogue that isn't subtitled relatively easily). As for the censoring controversy really it only affects the second main dungeon in my opinion, and though I'm sad to see that, knowing what it originally was really fixed it contextually for me. Overall I'm finding it to be a fun semi light-hearted game (as compared to Atlas's other titles) and I'm enjoying it as a fun ride.

I got TMS on Wii U as I liked Fire Emblem Awakening. I hadn't played many very heavy "Japan" games before it, and the few I had played I hated. So things weren't looking good for the game when I first saw the reviews. But... I loved it. They did everything right without the cringe that normally draws me away from them. It was my first true JRPG too if you don't count Pokémon, and my experience with it certainly helped me choose Dragon Quest 11S over SwSh, which I'm very glad I did. I'm playing through Octopath Traveller at the moment and hope to get Tales of Vesperia soon. TMS made me try incredibly Japan JRPGs again (not that Octopath really is) and for that the game will always be special to me.

That's the inherit irony of it, they're censoring it to appeal to a western audience who wouldn't buy it because it is precisely a "japan" game. It makes no sense. The target demographic and the actual fans don't jive. People aren't going to buy anime games if they aren't into it, and the people who will buy them feel betrayed/sad that it's been censored. I for one will never purchase it outside of the JP wiiu version.

@@Armadan7 the censoring is a bit strange though at the same time I'm not really upset about it just a bit disappointed. I've never really been one for cheesecake in games unless they're making a point with it but at the same time I'm not a fan of censorship in general. Given that TMS is about the Idol industry and the one highly censored part of the game was there for story reasons, they shouldn't have censored it. It obviously hasn't stopped me from buying and enjoying the game but it does lose a bit of the punch of a couple story beats.

@@epiccarrot88 glad to hear that TMS introduced you to the world of JRPG's. I'd recommend looking up the Persona or Shin Megami Tensei games given their obvious connection with TMS. Also I would look into the Bravely games they're by the same people that did Octopath Traveler and they are wonderful games. Honestly playing the Tales and Mana games are on list since I feel like I really should play them and I've never gotten around to it since life is busy now so I have to be more picky about the games I play. My initial introduction into JRPG's was Final Fantasy 9 and 10 and those games will always hold a very dear place in my heart.

Left trigger and A dodging will do a move that uses ki and teleports you behind the opponent for a punch in the back, you can normal dodge with just A, and do it at the last second for an dodge.

I experience the same problem with "not saving". But I am now really far into the game, unlocked all the Cast Members. And I am having a blast especially the explosive session chains which gets better and better as you level up your characters! The story lacks depth, sense, and coherence but I am still charmed by the craziness, aesthetics and battle system of Tokyo Mirage Sessions! 😍😍😍

Dubs are better in general imo. I know a lot of people get butthurt hearing that especially when it comes to anime (I know some have horrible translations but that’s part of the charm for me personally). I completely agree tho about hearing the emotion in English voice rather than just reading, when there’s a ton of dialogue and you have to read nonstop it takes away from the whole story for me.

Does anyone remember playing DBZ: Budokai Tenkaichi 3? I feel like that was like the best DBZ game I ever played. There was so much more cause it included all the story plus a bunch of filler and what if story. And it was great. It just kind of feels like that game is forgotten or something lol.

I just got the Switch version!! It’ll be my first DBZ game since the GBA titles which I finished 5 years ago 😅. What I did was re watch DBZ while playing the GBA games for the first time and following the story. If I advanced in the game before I watched it in the anime I would even stop and wait. 😂 Coming to this new one is therefore such an amazing experience to be living the moments from the anime with its artwork and gameplay. 🥰 I do agree the flying is funky tho 😭

@@turanx0 The actual combat is far more like SMT than Persona. For instance, they use Zan (SMT) instead of Garu (Persona) for wind attacks, plus all the buffs/debuffs are AoE by default which is what they do in SMT games. In Persona, they separate them into single target and AoE. The actual RPG aspects are far more like SMT than Persona as well. There isn't the whole social links/confidants aspect of Persona. Instead, it's more straightforward quests/side quests which fits with SMT more than Persona. Really, the only Persona-like thing is that it's not the devil/angel aspect of SMT. Both Persona and SMT make use of supernatural entities in battle. In TMS, it's neither. It's Fire Emblem characters. It's FE characters on both your side (e.g., Chrom), but also on for the bosses. Both Persona and SMT games can be pretty dark at times. You've got sexual assault and attempted suicide in Persona 5, for instance. TMS might appear to be lighter, but that's kind of appearance. You've still got people being kidnapped and killed.

The actual gameplay loop is way more like SMT tho. Persona the fact you have a daily schedule and a deadline really changes things. But nevertheless they are similar in narrative and tone (tho this is a much more lighter tale with equally fluffy characters)

SMT games have never really had auto save as far as I can remember...which is normally worse because the combat is much less forgiving, like yeah if you get hit in Mirage Sessions you're gonna feel it but you can easily dish it out too...not so much in normal SMT games. Also in this games case the Fire Emblem stuff is a lot more obvious in like the personalities of the characters and the later game story...my biggest question is still "why Virion?" like was he memes that I missed? ...hmm well I suppose it was either him or Noire. Awakening didn't have many archers
