1. Honking is considered rude in Malaysia. That is why you dont really hear much honking on the road there. They only honk when it is really necessary or as a big FU when somebody does something foolish on the road. 2. Reg alcohol, you dont really get to see Malaysians who consume alcohol do it in public. It is always at home, at places where alcohol is served, but never in public. Being drunk in public is even a rarity - unless you go to places with pubs clubs etc. Plus you can get into trouble with authorities if you are obviously drunk in the public for whatever reason. That kinda helps keeps them off the street

I'm Indonesian and unfortunately I live in Jakarta as well. There's nothing wrong on Ben's comments about Jakarta. His personal thoughts about Jakarta was pure and honest review from him while visiting the city for the very first time. I personally respect Ben for his honest review. As a Jakarta citizen, me myself... have had enough about many things of this city, starting from it's chaotic traffic, the air and noise pollution which are getting worse from time to time, floods, dirty river, people who toss trashes/garbage irresponsibly, and some other critical social issues. Jakarta really need someone to boldly speak up about it's lack of a proper city governance. Even Jakarta is no compare to KL thoroughly. Jakarta is still far behind...

Hi, we are not interested in comparison between Malaysia & Indonesia. There's 7 millions Indonesian working in Malaysia legally or illegally. There are at least 50K Indonesian studying in our higher education center and we have flocks of Indonesian coming to Malaysia for medical treatment. Plus we have numerous Indonesian Cyber Troops waging war on us daily in Sosial Media Paid by the Indonesia Rulling Party. Whatever you do in Indonesia please compared it with United States of America not with Federation of Malaysia.

I just spent five days in Jakarta and I miss it so much. Jakarta is more like Mumbai, nothing like Bangkok or KL. I walked from mid-South to North of Jakarta in one day, took me around seven hours. It was an absolutely crazy walk. I saw everything, and I mean everything during that walk. I wouldn't recommend anyone doing so, the city is not designed for walking, it's extremely discouraging, very unsafe to walk. But the city itself, one of the safest in the world, no crime. People are some of the best I've ever come across. I can't tell you how many times I stopped for a chat with locals, no agenda, they were just interested. North of the city is extremely poor, I ended up in the slums where I met some of the best people on earth. Kids ran up to me for cuddles. Random men shook hands with me. For a solo traveller, I never felt alone, or ever looked over my shoulder. I probably saw five Western tourists in five days, which was a good change, made the experience so authentic. I terms of food, probably the best city on earth. I know, big statement. But I'm lucky because I've got a very obsessive friend in London, who's from Jakarta, controlling me via WhatsApp, sending me to the best local joints. If you know where to stay in Jakarta, every night is a festival. Many thanks Riyan, you've made my Jakarta experience a very magical one. Tomorrow I'm leaving Lombok and returning to Jakarta, and I can't wait. Another thing about Jakarta, the weather, it was so good. Unlike KL, where you'll need a shower every time you go for a walk, Jakarta had the perfect weather. Don't get me started on the coffee, just wow!

Wait till you get to Manila, Philippines the pollution can be even worse than Jakarta! The city isn’t very tourist friendly, it’s a chaotic city, still worth exploring, if only for the experience imo! Smoking is still very common, everywhere, there’s a crazy nightlife scene, but you would need a friendly local to show you around! On a Sunday some main streets are closed to traffic, great time to witness the atmosphere of Jakarta! People will be very friendly to you, as tourists aren’t as common as in Malaysia, they all love the camera! I met a few local Christians there, especially taxi drivers! This guy may be a seasoned traveler, but certainly didn't project this quality. He complains a lot, not only about Jakarta, but also about how he missed a flight and made it sound like it's the airplane company's fault. Then he mentioned that he lost his phone because he left it in the check in counter, he complained about the hassle of x-ray security, etc. etc. Also, when he approached the security guards in the National Monument, he spoke in full-sentenced American English, with zero attempt to simplify his message. After getting a cold response, he used that interaction as a proof of the country's low-level English proficiency, as if it is expected for citizens of a former Dutch colony should speak English. He later implied that they seemed "less friendly" , not realizing that his approach as a foreigner wasn't that nuanced either... So his attitude doesn't reflect enough open-mindedness when travelling to new, obviously less touristy places. I don't mind any critical first impression about a place, but his apparent character sadly compromises what he has to say...

Welcome to Jakarta......Jakarta has had bad press due to its pollution, chaotic traffic, excessive street stalls/vendors, bad management of its drainage system, floodings just to name the obvious ones and hence many western tourists avoid or been advised to avoid from staying and exploring the city.....But if you as a tourist are willing to accept those challenges then you will find that there are a lot of great places to explore including great culinary treats (stay away from the street stalls if you want to avoid stomach issues but if you're adventurous to try the street food, avoid drinks served with ice bcause you dont know where the water came from and check that they wash the plates and cutlery with running water and soap....or they use clean disposable utensils...) Having said that, some of the highlights or places to see and visit in Jakarta: - The old town or old Dutch City center in North Jakarta -Chinatown near the old town (not the artificial one at PIK) - Monas - there's actually a museum at the bottom of the monument and on top there is a viewing gallery - Istiqlal Mosque, biggest mosque in SEA, there is a daily organised tour, need to check online regarding the hours - A grand cathedral right accross from Istiqlal mosque - Taman mini Indonesia Park - Thousand Islands beach resort (2 hour boat ride from. Jakarta) - SCBD, an example/taste of modern Jakarta - Tons of shopping malls, Jakarta is up to par with Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur when comes to shopping from low end to high end shopping places. If you use your western standards to judge whether a place is worth visiting then why bother visiting other places/countries....I think the purpose to travel is to see the sights and sounds of other places and countries including immerse yourself in their culture and interact with their people....language barrier? Use google translate or other translation tools will get you a long way..... Granted, you have to still consider personal safety and ease of transportation when travelling.....Jakarta is considered generally safe similar to the other major cities in Southeast Asia...of course you still need to exercise caution with your belongings......the places that I mentioned above are covered by cheap public transportion (modern buses and trains...sure you can take the bike taxis but its not as safe and convenient as modern trains and buses, just avoid morning and evening rush hours....)...you just need to equip yourself with an e money card (they dont take cash) which you can buy at the bigger bus/train stops or buy and top up at the local Indomaret or alfamart and hop on to the Jakarta trains and buses and go on an adventure.......... Looking forward to your next videos in Jakarta......Stay safe and healthy!!

And you just come to Jakarta for few days and talk as if you're expert. Jakarta's so huge, the place you have visited maybe less than 1% of Jakarta, only small part of Jakarta. And you always complaining that Indonesian mostly can't speak english fluently unlike malaysian. Oke, fine, but what's the point? We Indonesian proud of Indonesian language that's unite 250 millions+ people in Indonesia. Like Japan, the're proud to their language. Unlike Malaysian, they lost their national language. But mostly educated people in Indonesia can english because at least we learn english 6 years in school. Maybe some fluent in speaking, but some only fair level of reading & writing. Yes, about traffic and pollution, I know it's Jakarta's problem, as huge city with 10 millions people live there, and in daytime about 25-30 millions people live in Jakarta as about 15-20 millions entering Jakarta to work. So you can imagine, how many people it's, it's sum of all malaysians pack in the Jakarta area only. So yes Jakarta is not spot for tourism, but business. So don't much complaining about living standard in jakarta, pollution, jammed and so on. If you want comfort place, you can go elsewhere in Indonesia like Bandung, Bali, Yogyakarta, and so on. And no body forced you to live in Jakarta bro... as you always stated that you can't live there. But i think it's your problem, maybe you can not live in USA also, so you choose to live in south east asia countries.

KL is certainly more westernized than Jakarta in terms of development/infrastructure, tons of western expats, entire neighborhoods which are westernized like Bukit Bintang, KLCC, Bangsar, Damansara Heights. Wow…obviously I don’t know you, but truly surprised who you are supporting for the US presidency. I’m American and based on what you’ve revealed about yourself, open mindness, tolerance, etc. I would never had thought. Sigh. Not going to lie…it’ll be hard not to judge, but enjoy your videos and will of course continue to watch. Keep up the good work. Peace.

Many Indonesian only want to introduce SCBD area in Jakarta. Is just a average business district like many other cities and it not particularly advanced nor special. This place not even take up to 0.1% of Jakarta real face.

Plaza Indonesia Mall is actually the oldest mall in Jakarta, there are many new and modern mall around the city, one of them is Central Park Mall in west Jakarta
@benfishermin3 ай бұрын
Oh wow, it looked like the most modern one in the area, but I haven't ventured outside of Central Jakarta yet. I definitely much preferred Grand Indonesia mall over Plaza.

You cant compare Indonesia to Malaysia on English. Malaysia was a British colony and part of the British commonwealth which Indonesia never was. I mean the Japanese hardly speak any English either, that's really not a negative.

Hi! I’m a Japanese. After WW II, Okinawa in Japan was under American occupation for 27 years(1945~1972). During that period, the locals had US passports and needed to get visas to enter Japan. So regardless of generation, many Japanese who live in Okinawa speak English.

@@yukai5283 I dont deny all that but generally Japan just like Indonesia is not known as an English speaking country.
@yukai52833 ай бұрын
@@RajeshRavindranathan No,no!!! I never blame you. You said about British thing, so I wanted to share my knowledge. Because I was happy that you mentioned about Japan. Japan is an isolated country. No one mentions about Japan. And you’re totally ! 100 % !!correct. We say we have “English allergy”. Thank you for your consideration.

@@yukai5283 yeah but it still is a British thing. USA was also a British colony and that's where Japanese English comes from....American English.
@yukai52833 ай бұрын
@@RajeshRavindranathan You know well. Yes! Japanese students study American English at junior high and high school. Ben’s pronunciation is a typical way of speaking for English teachers in Japan. I’m an English learner, and my tutor is a Londoner. Everything is new for me. Then I realised only American English in Japan.
