We do what we want, when we want, never hassled at all, many of the locals know us now, and we get treated really well. You just have to know where to eat, and if you drink alcohol how pick your bar. There is so much to love about Thailand, especially their beautiful people

There are good sporting facilities, especially in Saphan Hin and at Thanyapura but its natural beauty has been eroded by all the tourism, traffic and litter. My first time in Thailand 1989 Bangkok then Phuket. Nobody really knew Phuket. Cheap, clean beaches to ourselves. A few times up to 2005 2015 Then 2020 right before the rona. I mean about two weeks before. Big bucks for a beach front Patong resort, but they catered to the people that paid a daily rate to play at the beach club. left us staying there high and dry. I canceled this year because I figured it would be priced way out of line and I'm glad I did. Sitting in Hua Hin happy as hell!

Sick video dude, I had a great time in Phuket. Everyone has their different reasons for visiting thailand. It caters for all budgets and its still an amazing place to visit. Any extreme budget travellers out there with time, I reccomend staying in phuket city centre. Accom is super cheap, the food is cheap and mindblowingly good. Regular buses going to patong etc daily cost only 40bht each way (45mins). Its congested as hell in phuket city, but I love the chaos of Se asia.

Very honest video and I feel the same way. Phuket has beautiful spots and the boat tours can be beautiful (but very crowded now I understand). But the negatives are very annoying. I don't rent bikes in Thailand because I am not use to drive on the left, so taxis everywhere is very expensive. I will add that Patong beach is super crowded and right now with overwhelming amount of tourist from just one nationality. Many smokers, so after getting your chair for the day somebody might come right next to you and smoke don't stop. More jet skiers than swimmers and those annoying parachutes and noise. Not my scene. Phuket has going for it the convenience of an airport and it is nice, but hundreds of better places in Thailand.

Your correct. Not been to Phuket in many years due to all of the issues you explained. Over priced tourist trap for people who want to come to Thailand but want a watered down version. I’ll admit that this years high season has gotten a bit crazy and I often wish there were a few less tourist here in Phuket, but Pattaya is no different. I did notice one big difference though. Every time I travel to Phuket, I secure a rental car from the locals and negotiate prices over the phone beforehand. I'll have them pick me up at the airport and drive to their private offices, which are mostly in a private residence setting to complete the rental process. This is done to steer clear from the ire of the local taxi and rental mafia. It can be challenging to find a rental for a fair rate if you don't speak Thai or know a local Thai person to help with the arrangements though. Another possibility is to rent a car outside of Phuket and make the commute onto the island. This is generally the preferred way when you're staying in Thailand for longer period and you're not flying into Phuket airport. For me, the extra time spent to arrange for transportation while traveling to Phuket is worth the time and money.

Hello Mate! Really enjoy watching all your videos since I found out about your channel over a year ago..also really enjoy Dan the man videos. I used to live in Phuket for about 8 years before COVID. And yes I agree Patong is not great when you've lived in Thailand a long time we get tired of the busy tourist areas, but Phuket has so much more to offer..if you want to experience more Thai local places to eat and go out at night you should go to Phuket Town or chalong area..it's so much cheaper and you feel more like in Thailand as it's mainly more for locals and expats. I used to live in Kathu near the university wich is near Phuket town and there's restaurants round there that make super nice thai food for 50 bath. Next time rent a scooter and explore more inland and the other side of Phuket around Kathu, Phuket town, chalong..you will see it's a total different vibe to patong and a lot cheaper for food drink and accomodation.

One note about the lack of Thai people, it's because this is not just the high season, this is also people escaping for example Ukraine and Russia, everything is pretty much over the top, you go Central and you might was well guess what country you are actually in because it's not obvious, not saying that is a bad thing not at all. I use to live in Rawai but that was years ago, now I barely go there because it is soooo crowded, we moved to the center of the Island near Kathu in Ko Kaew, much quieter, and you see some local thais here. However as you said in your video, the popular areas of course like Patong of all places you will see almost more foreigners walking about.

What is your best recommendation for a more authentic feel but still with decent nightlife and beaches? My friends and I are planning to go to Phuket for about a week but we also would love to visit somewhere a little less tourist orientated Great video 👍

If you don’t mind a 20 min commute to nightlife, Surin beach is really beautiful

I completely agree with your assessment of Phuket. I'm at Kamala right now. Everything is so pricey.

Excellent video. I just made a couple trips to the Kingdom, travelled all over and spent considerable time in Patong. Of course, it is going to be more expensive: it is a popular tourist beach town. Where isn't? But, as Keis said: there are a lot cheaper places if you look. 80B beers. Killer tom yum kung or ka soup Loaded w/shrimp 100B, Quiet, secure hotel 300M from Bangla w/nice pool and lots of orchids 900B... IMHO: Chiang Mai in the north is the best area.

Phuket they say is expensive. But honestly if you go low season, it’s not as busy. Accomodation is reasonable price as well. Food you can find cheaper places not around Bangla Road though. You can get food for 80 baht-100 baht per dish for Thai food. You also have Big C supermarket and 7-Eleven if you want to save money eating out.

Was in Bang Tao for 4 days, and just came back to BKK yesterday. I loved my stay and we did go to Patong and Bangla Road for a visit... but definitely would not enjoy living there long term. For a shorter visit, it's great though!

Yeah I had a great time too, I’ll be back in a couple weeks 😊

Now make a video about the rest of Phuket, where the beaches are better, it's less expensive, and very easy to get around. I've lived in Phuket for 10 years, and only been to the beach in Patong once.

I'm moving to Phuket for work this week. Can you suggest some places to visit for cheaper food and beers?
