My Honest Thoughts on Selling on The Real Real

I’ve sent them about 50 items over the past few months. I’m using RR like I do BST stores, only send items that I’ve had listed for 6 months or longer. The payouts can be so low and they’re decreasing the % payouts even more. Things sell fast but they also allow returns and they payout once a month so it can be awhile before you get paid. I have a RR store in my city so I take my items to them instead of boxing and shipping. My “consultant” will also come to my home to pick up items. Last time I took a necklace of my own, had the jewelry consultant authenticate and they are listing for over $1,000 and my payout will be $725. With jewelry, they can’t lower the price unless you approve it and they will keep it for a year.

I am glad you had success on The Real Real! I have been sending them stuff for years and its been great until recently they made a mistake and lost the last batch of items I sent in, and getting resolution with customer service was a nightmare. I have lost all trust in them unfortunately. I truly believe that its not about the mistakes it how you make them right and they have definitely failed big time - just sharing my experience because I hate to see this happen to someone else.

I have sent in only three shipments and they lost one of my items in two of the three! I emailed them as soon as I saw they didn’t list a matching Escada skirt with a suit jacket. They said they checked the video of the unboxing and it wasn’t included. I was livid!! I KNOW I packaged the two together. I had them send everything back. I am done with them!

Hello, I was the victim of their fraudulent business Ed’s practices and took them to NY State Supreme Court. They stole over 200k of luxury clothing from me: sold without a consignment agreement, lost or returned damaged/worn by The Real Real employees during the months they had them at their warehouse, for price quotes only, not resale. We are now considering a class action lawsuit and are seeking other victims to join us. You would not have to do anything but be a party to the lawsuit. The lawyers would do everything for us. I hope you will consider this. THEY NEED TO BE STOPPED & HELD ACCOUNTABLE. I am not active on social media and have no clout but most people are & we should start a movement.

Loved this! Thanks for sharing. I sent in a box and was so happy that many sold super fast but almost every piece got returned. I’ve heard that’s super common there even though they put those big tags on them. People wear and send back ugh.

I hate when people do retuns on real. I have 5 items from my last box and all were returns. The best is that after 60% off it is a final sale. Then the returns stop.

Enjoyed your video. I just sent in a box of 7 items with 1 not accepted. Most are priced under 100.00 . Womp womp. But there are 2 that are priced around 200. Which I think I have about 20.00 dollars into my box so I’ll At least be in the profit margins. But will remember only to send in only the luxury pieces that I don’t want to authenticate! Very informative video.

Oh my, thank you so much for posting the Burberry! I opened an account with the Real Real awhile ago because I have 3 Burberry Trench Coats that are the same and I don't want to deal with authenticating them either. I still haven't bitten the bullet and sent them in, but this might give me that extra push!

I refuse to sell to the real real now. The commission and payout is not worth it unless you really don’t want to deal with it. They sold my 2020 Versace dress for $46 and my commission was $16. Not to mention I was a VIP commission tier and woke up to being insider and they have zero explanations.

ALL of your videos are incredibly well done and I learn so much from each and every one of them. I am in Canada but have been thinking about starting my own channel to help out Canadian sellers because there are some differences between us. You guys have a much better mail system than we do. It is very expensive here in Canada to ship.

TRR has recently announced a payout reduction on the lowest pricing tier to 20% (was previously the 30% payout level). Also I've found they price all DVF dresses at $40 which at the new payout structure is $8 maximum.

I have sent some things to them and some sales I am happy with but I am concerned about the company. Prime Time Treasure Hunter (Dominic Corone) talked about the founder and CEO leaving, and a stock drop. He wonders if they will be around for much longer, which is concerning since they have three Burberry coats of mine, some Gucci bags, and so on...they have sold a few things for me and they get a TON of returns. So not sure I will keep sending them items

They are the worst ! I sold over 1600 dollars worth of stuff through them and it was sent to someone else’s bank account . I spent literally HOURS and HOURS over the phone , in the chat , and text trying to get it fixed . Never did receive my money . I told them I wanted all the rest of my clothes back that hadn’t sold yet and it took almost 2 months to get them back . In the meantime MORE had sold and I didn’t get the money ! They are the worst ! Now - if you want to buy from them to flip , I guess it’s better . My personal experience with them was just awful

The returns and the discounts are too much. No one pays full price and they discount so fast. I think at least 25% of the things get returned. Sold a Christmas NYE style dress before the holiday, returned after. So then no longer in season and keeps discounting to almost nothing. Then they mislabeled a men's Burberry blazer as women's. Returned 3 times and came back with a hole on the third, so it was sent back to me. Just have had good sales with brands like Christian Dior and Oscar de la Renta.

After watching your video, I decided to have The Real Real take about 30 pieces of 90's vintage designer items that I had for sale on Poshmark for over a year with little action. They had a girl (yes, she was younger than the pieces she picked up) come by and go through the items and send them off to be authenticated and put on line for sale. She said I would be able to see everything prior to each item going live in case I wanted the item back or ask for a price change. Unfortunately that didn't happen. I did get a few emails about the process and where my clothes were in the process of being photographed an listed. THEN, I get an email saying I SOLD my first item. What?? Not only was the item mis-labeled as to the designer, it was sold for $80. These were JPG $1,500 steampunk sunglasses. I am so upset and was scammed. They listed the glasses under a designer that doesn't even make sunglasses! If you take what they listed and "google" it, the results are JPG sunglasses. They sold within minutes of going online. Keep in mind I NEVER got an email stating that they were listed NOR, did I have the opportunity to tell them of their mistake. Keep in mind these sunglasses have Jean Paul Gaultier on them with the style#. AUTHENTICATORS??? Really? I smell a scam. I have only been able to "chat" with customer service and they have put my closet on "review" until I hear from someone. I also asked them to send many of my items back as they had them listed for LOWBALL numbers and the commission is horrible, the most that I had offered to me was 55% until it hit a certain sale #. (i.e. Judith Leiber purse (rare) for $395 when it should have been listed for over $1,800. Needless to say, I am so upset an disappointed that this company is NOT who they say they are. I hope that I can get this resolved and get the money I am due. I WILL WARN EVERYONE, YOU ARE BETTER OFF SELLING YOUR ITEMS ON POSHMARK/EBAY AND STAY AWAY FROM THE REAL REAL, THEY ARE BAD BAD!

My jaw dropped at your ungaro jacket that sold for so much- I've pretty much given up on the realreal, among other reasons because they lost an extremely similar ungaro jacket I sent them! I knew nothing about it and wasn't expecting it could possibly be worth that much, now I'm even more annoyed. Hi Becky you know I have love hate relationship with TRR, I sent only thing over$100 because of the pay out 30% , I sent 3-6 pieces, sometime I ask to send something back because they price it low. I was happy with Roger Viver shoes I got @177 and paid $10 at my local cobbler, lost sale I got @90 for Dior bathrobe from bins.
