My husband was stationed in South Korea. He’s always had the best things to say about the ROK army soldiers. The American soldiers knew that the ROK army would have their back if necessary and that they were well-trained. He said they had a lot of respect for the ROK soldiers

Good observation about Kim Il Sung being able to convince Stalin that the US would not intervene in a DPRK invasion of the south. I was vaguely aware of this but for some reason this obvious parallel to our time hadn’t struck me. As an added question - what do you make of the assertions by western military analysts that DPRK soldiers will not perform well due to their lack of experience with modern military doctrine? It can be measured and replicated and proven. The entire problem with politics and modern media is precisely that they portray absolutely ridiculous falsehoods and verifiable nonsense as potential truths. The truth is that Trump lost the 2020 election. It has been examined repeatedly by people on the left and right and not a single person has any shred of evidence that he won. The truth is not to say "Oh well who really knows", we do know, because a bunch of people tried to find evidence that he won, and could find nothing. Remember, a key component of Soviet propaganda was to say there is no truth, because the truth is what the Communist Party wants it to be. Thanks for your thoughts. I always have sympathy for Korea because the threat of war is ever present and must be a nagging cloud to live under all the time. From what I know about your mandatory military draft in South Korea, it's tough, but the time will go by quickly because you are busy all the time. That is the feedback I have had at least and I hope it is so for you if/as/when you come to do that and I wish you the very best. I know that people come out of it having learned a lot and once it is done it is done and you can move on freely and live your life. I think most of us just want a world of peace, security, national common sense and healthy economies, wherever we are. And no war. Yes, that's really important too. Whoever can deliver that, or help work towards it, will be a good choice.

I appreciate your curiosity and humility. I'm not Ungjin obviously, so I welcome him or anyone who knows better than me, especially about South Korea, to correct me if I'm wrong. I don't know all the ins and outs of the American immigration system either, but I am married to an immigrant and sponsored her citizenship. First, we can't assume that Ungjin even wants to stay in America. That's not to say that it's terribly bad here for him, but he could simply want to study here and then go back home. He clearly still loves and cares deeply about his homeland. Second, student visas (which I am assuming he has) might be extendable (I'm not sure, so please someone correct me if I'm wrong), but getting a green card isn't trivial. It's not something he can just apply for out of the blue and receive a month later in the mail. The two most common ways are through employment (good luck finding an employer who is willing to sponsor you) or family (marriage being the most common) Third, unless he became a citizen of the US or some other country and renounced his South Korean citizenship, if active combat were to break out between N. and S. Korea and he were conscripted, it wouldn't matter if he were here on a visa or green card: he'd be required to go home and fight for his country.

I found driving to be a challenge due to my speaking English but less stressful because the drivers were nicer. For example, when they honked it was to let you know you were clear to change lanes. Hope your time in the U.S. served you well! Edited to add: The reason Michigan had to count the Chinese person’s vote was because his vote was anonymous and they don’t know how he voted. Fr and he wants to decrease involvement with foreign dealings. I think the presidency will be okay. I just feel bad because trump wants to ban abortion adjacent stuff. My sister has a hormone imbalance where if she doesn't have this patch it's like she's having period moodswings all the time. And she can't help it either it sucks to see. She can somewhat manage without it, but from what I know (what my sister told me) there's no other treatment that's not expensive as hell and out of the way. She takes birth control as well to help with her 'pre birth control' occasionally hospitalizing periods, but there's a good chance it'll be banned. (Ik it sounds weird but coming from her brother she started taking it a couple years before her first boyfriend and idk how it works but it's supposed to help) So some people are sol because of trump. It's just rich influencer lie off number whatever at this point idk 🤷‍♂️.

A lot of Americans are concerned about this issue to especially since all of these neocons want to continue all of these wars. I am hoping that the men in America that fall into the age group for being drafted are paying attention to this. The US has enacted the draft 6 times and there is no reason why they wouldn't do it now. Vote accordingly and the argument that there is no law that takes choice away from men is a lie, it's called the draft.
