My Hornby Class 142 Pacer Collection

the older hornby ones are certainly as much of a bumpy ride as the real life ones lol, the sound loco i have does the squeeling around curves and sounds quite realisitic, thanks for watching

I have 142013 in Greater Manchester PTE colour :D. I have had it for a while although it broke and I finally managed to get it going again for the first time in 3 years yesterday. Also, Nice collection!

thanks, i always had a soft spot for these my first hornby train set came with the regional railways yellow and i always liked the original blue from the Kirkby to wigan line i used to see when i was little, i could do with upgrading a few really so i can run them on dcc, ive recently got my northern one back up and running, thanks for watching. Love it. They may be old and rickety, but they have character. Which others are you missing? I can only think of the chocolate and cream one, that's probably the rarest and most expensive of the older version to get hold of. Recently saw one on eBay for about £100.

hi yes i do have a soft spot for the rail bus am currently missing the arriva trains livery and like you said the chocolate and cream model i was hoping to get them before christmas so i could have the complete collection on vid but both were on sale for quite alot of money like you said about £100 i had just missed a cream and brown on on ebay which sold for around £40.00 i was gutted about, once ive got the last 2 i will do another vid of them thanx for watching

north west trains models If I spot a chocolate and cream one at £40 I'll be snapping it up quick time. 😁 I'm looking at modelling the early 90's. I already have a collection of 5 or 6 Sprinters and SuperSprinters in the regional blue stripe livery, I just need a couple more and about 4 or 5 pacers from the same period to match them. Everything is being modified with Kadee couplers and directional lighting, so it will look the part. Unfortunately (depending how you look at it) I have quite a collection of post-privatisation models which may have to be sold to fund the rest of the rolling stock I'm after, but I might just keep them as an alternative era. I won't really have space on the layout for them with the 90's DMU's, HST's and locos though.

if you keep checking e bay there are some bargains out there, most of the regional railways pacers i bought on e bay were between £20-£40 sometimes there just listed as hornby train and not many people spot them am focusing mainly on between 2000- to present day but i will alter it sometimes when the layouts more complete so one week i mite have present day and another week mite be the late 90s early 2000s as i do have alot of older liveried diesels

I have a heritage railway model railway so I gave just been buying steam + diesel loco’s but I have got enough of them now so I’m going to get a pacer (hopefully in every livery) and maybe one or 2 with sound

Can you still buy the the 142s as I'm thinking of building a model railway I would like to have the old DMU trains as well as I'll be doing a train station as well as a good yard for 66 or something similar have not made my mind up yet

Hi, Hornby haven't re released the 142 pacer for quite a few years now, there are usually plenty available 2nd hand on ebay or model shops, realtrack have a new tooled class 142 coming out this winter, hope this is helpful, thanks for watching. Tom

thanks, i find the more they run the better they are and the older models because they had a motor in each car used to fight with eachother and the more modern varient had just the one motor but had contacts on the 2nd car which helps it run more smoothly especially over dead spots on points, thanks again for watching, Tom

anything northern rail is hard to get hold of at the moment am suprised hornby dont have any pacers out at the moment they could have been re released under the railroad range as they are pretty basic, i herd realtrack models are producing a detailed model of the 142 so keep an eye out for that. hi ill try and do a video on it but most of the time with the pacers a simple clean on the wheels with cotton buds and nail varnish remover does the trick or you can purchase track magic which is good for cleaning wheels and track and i oil the gear in the centre of the driving wheels

What one do you prefer the old twin motored or the newer one motored Pacer? and why?

the single motored 142 tends to run smoother and thats mainly because the dummy car has pick ups aswell and they link via the coupler so they are much more reliable over dead spots on points, sometimes the double motored models clash with eachother if one side hits a dead spot the other motor isnt quite powerful enough to keep the train moving, and the single motored version is abit quieter, hope this is of help, thanks for watching. Hi there, how do you service your pacer? I.e. which parts do you lube with oil

hi to be honest all i have had to do with them over the years is clean the wheels and put a drop of peco power lube in the main running gear between the driving wheels and that seems to do the trick

I have one in the orange livery. Bought on ebay some months ago so I thought I'd give it a service to improve the running. Mainly the pickups needed a clean but have now noticed one coach has quite a pronounced wiggle as it moves. Any ideas on what I can do to fix this. Like the video by the way.

cheers mate, it could be a slightly bent wheel or one of the gears, does it do it in both directions

Yes it wiggles in both directions. I did think about a new gear wheel set from Peters Spares.
