My advise as a trainee. I don’t care what you think you know. Blanket your mind be a sponge of all the information you are taught. It’s handing out a hammer. Everyone’s going to swing it different but still need to learn how to it as close to the correct way as possible. Don’t get caught up in the money right of way. Good and careful planning and research should prevent you worrying too much about. Learn the job first build your skill. Your skill level is what keep you from earning the money you think you deserve.

I don't even trust someone to drive while I'm in a car with them I damn sure couldn't sleep in a big rig with a trainee driving. I could never be a trainer

You only hear about the trainees trainer horror stories. I've trained a few women and I quit training. You can only be so patient and understanding until your done. By the way, I'm a female myself.

When I was young, my father, a truck driver with 30+ years experience, once asked me what I would do if we were driving team, I was driving, he was in the bunk sleeping, and my brakes go out while going down a mountain. I said "Pray I get the chance to change my pants." He said "NO! The first thing you do is WAKE ME UP, because it will probably be the last chance I have ever get to see an accident like the one you would be killing us both in." The real joke of that is if we were ever in that position, my father, even if in a deep sleep, would have known exactly what was going on in that truck before I did, and would have immediately been up front, yanked me from the driver seat, seat belt and all, and took the wheel of the truck (While the truck was still moving, obviously) and do whatever it took to get everything under control before any real danger arose. He would then glare at me, and calmly say to me "Now, you tell me EVERYTHING you did wrong, and don't you forget ANYTHING, because everything you DON'T mention is exactly what I am going to be chewing you out over for the next several hours to make sure you don't EVER forget it again!" Fortunately, this never happened with us, or to me. He was being theoretical when he asked me this. I have very limited mountain experience, but I have never had any issues with the few times I have done it.

I do the same job here in the UK, but moving to USA soon. The quality of drivers and their attitude is an important factor. If someone is a danger you don't leave them behind the wheel, I am awake at all times as we don't do overnight runs with newbies. I drive on day one, day 2 they take over, and I don't sign them off until I'm sure they're safe to go it alone, that could be 2 days or 2 weeks with extra reverse training daily

My trainer scared the hell out of me. I was scared he was going to kill me. He was mentally ill, and he had impossible demands and expectations. Then he became enraged when I couldn't live up to them. I was a raw rookie fresh out of CDL school. Again and again, he put me in dangerous, high pressure situations to try and make me quit, but just to spite him, I stuck it out to the end. He was a good trucker who knew his business but he should have never been a trainer

A lot of people don't understand that not every driver can be a trainer. Sorry to hear that you experienced that.

I'm not a trainer just working on my az. But I think you're wrong in your thinking. A trainer can only train so much. I assume they already got their license so a company trainer shouldn't have to babysit you all the time. The hardest thing for any driver is backing.

I'm a trainer and after they get there license they are usually ok and the rest of the training is the ins and out, I'll get up when they get somewhere to help with backing and other stuff

As a trainer myself i run local intermodal. Tbe trainee must want to learn what i need them to know i haul out of 4 different rails and 6 different depots with everything from 20s to 53 ft "cans". Companies need to hire better prospects. I had one trainee tell me im a 1%er. As he went into a 40mph ramp at 55. He was off the truck within 24 hrs. And i was his 3rd trainer. As a trainer Ill do my best to show you the ropes. You as a trainee Must be willing to learn. That is that.

I agree with this guy. i used to train people in another profession. Most of the kids from the current generation just doesn't have the drive like we used to have.

schnieder has the trainer sleep in truck and trainee in hotel, at least from what i understand.... is that pretty normal or is like this guy suggested that both sleep in truck?? i don't think i could do that myself!

Try highway 299 west in northern California. Nothing but going up hill, literal zig zag for 3 hours through mountains

@@mr.joshua204 yup i live here too. My first job out of cdl was driving a logging truck and sometimes they send us up to willits to get a load for the mill I went down that side in 3rd gear with the jake on . It was fine but i was puckered up.

The money these mega carriers pay too be a trainer is a joke! I make 80k as a solo, a swift trainer risks their life puts up with all the stress for what? Maybe 60-70k
