Can't believe I never thought about cooling a steam turbine with its own output!
@Luma_plays
@Luma_plays 2 жыл бұрын
Be aware this only works if the steam turbine steam stays under 135°C. so a big heat buffer or quick heat deletion is needed that you don't go over that temperature. Hence the multiple liquids and the amount of water in the steam chamber so that we dont overheat the turbine (because of the 500°C p O2)

I normally brute force it in the late game since sand is hard to come by late game. Freeze it into liquid oxygen. Run your cold 02 and dirt back into the hot polluted oxygen similar to your petroleum boiler to equalize temps. I do the opposite with my polluted water. You vaporize it to collect the dirt and collect water for o2. Equalize the temps and you're in business.

This is just one of many solutions. You can always just use alot of cooling to solve those issues. Takes more energy but less setup. Oni allows for all kind of path to the desired goal :)

I think that the likelihood of the deodorizer placing an oxygen tile in the lower chamber is zero when you have only a single layer of liquid in the mesh tiles and no liquid covering the deodorizers. I think how this work is that the game will try to teleport one element when two different elements occupy the same tile, but never when the elements match. The heating problem with one tile of liquid is addressed when you have 1 ton of water per tile in the mesh tiles and adequate tempshift plates made of metal or better. I've tested a similar design in one of my bases and it worked fine over a few hundred cycles. The water did start to heat up, but I fixed that by increasing the minimum gas pressure of the upper chamber. I had a 15-20 tile airgap(heat transferred only by strategically placed granite tempshift plates) between the geyser and an ice biome I was using and the system kept itself cool when I set the minimum clean oxygen pressure above 10kg. Edit: I forgot to tell you the main thing I felt watching this video. I loved that you covered this nifty little design in both your shorts and here. Thanks for sharing this and other neat little designs that fit so many small niches that general designs are too cumbersome for.
@Luma_plays
@Luma_plays 2 жыл бұрын
Hey SentientNeuron thanks alot. Those feedback comments and own experience informations are truly helpful :) (*just to be clear: I mean that and I don't use sarcasm online!) I had the feeling the one layer was already effective but i dis not want to use so much liquid. so a smaller amount of just 200 kg of each liquid seemed to be helpful to save materials, help even the temperature of the deodorizers and the room. That was my thought behind the double layer. I also did not manage to get an oxygen tile in the lower room maybe like you implied that would only be an issue if both rooms would be a vacuum? Thanks again :)
@thesentientneuron6550
@thesentientneuron6550 2 жыл бұрын
@@Luma_plays Thank YOU for letting us have an opportunity to have a discussion as fellow ONI players. I have had both rooms be a vacuum and had no problems. I think the oxygen pocket in the lower room might be due to one of few things. 1) Switching on deoderiser before adequate liquid is present in the mesh tiles. 2) Not evacuating the lower room and assuming no gas contamination is present. 3) Gas contamination due to errors during construction or deconstruction. 4) (Very low likelihood but possible in certain biomes) Oxylite left among debris and not being noticed due to high gas pressure. 5) Gas teleportation. There are some old videos on KZbin regarding converting one gas into another. If I'm remembering correctly there was gas teleportation involved and the converting mechanism itself was made of water. In your design the water has to be displaced by the produced oxygen, just as you observe and state in your video and this might be a culprit. Then again this bug that you mention may have already been patched out. Hope you have fun experimenting :) - Neuron

You don't need automation as deoderizers only output oxygen on their central tile, while still using PO2 in their star formation

@Luma_plays
@Luma_plays 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the risk of the turbine overheating and breaking the whole setup is probably not worth the few extra degrees. But depending on the strength of your Hot Polluted Oxygen vent it might work. No guarantee :D
@CommentPositionInformer
@CommentPositionInformer 2 жыл бұрын
@@Luma_plays You could have a Valve that splits the exhaust into two 1kg pipes (after cooling the turbine) and have these counterlow against the oxygen. That way the oxygen gets cooled a bit further, the water gets to the steam room at a bit more than 100c, and there is no risk of Turbine overheating. I sometimes do that with my Sour Gas Boilers.

I love this design... I just wish polluted oxygen vents were more useful. The amount of effort put into taming the vent is a lot for one duplicant's worth of oxygen. The only use I can think of is generating extra clay (for ceramic), or maybe for making emergency oxygen on rarely visited asteroids (in case a duplicant needs to stay there for a while, or if they need to refuel their rocket cabin's oxygen supply).
@Luma_plays
@Luma_plays 2 жыл бұрын
I see it the same way. The use is very limited. Epecially since the oxygen is not even cold. The 70°C infectious polluted oxygen vent can at least be passively integrated. But hey sometimes you need every last bit. And Clay is also useful as you said :)
@superspies32
@superspies32 6 ай бұрын
Sadly the best way to use it is for Puff. But you only need them at mid game for slime to use on mushroom, which be obsoleted later by pincha bread. And by late game you need the pufg that eat oxygen and secreted oxylite for rockets

Lots of interesting builds on YT, but they never explain the mechanics. I wasn't even aware you could refill sand to a deodorizer automatically, not sure how that works. I don't care for copying people's builds, I'd rather understand the concepts
@Luma_plays
@Luma_plays Жыл бұрын
Hey hey. I get what you mean :D. When i started ONI there were only hour long let's plays and just as long tutorials for any build. Which is why I started my channel. Sometimes people just want a solution for their current problem hence my #short builds. I try to cover the necessary things for that build in the explainer version; but I don't pretend they are a tutorial that covers everything. That would have to go in several tutorial to be understandable. I would like to do that someday if i ever find the time. The issue with oni is: to explain the mechanics you need hours. So either you postulate people know them to show a build or you make an hour long video; for a simple toilet loop. Another method is redirecting to a tutorial series. For that I suggest GCFungus tutorial series about the basics of ONI. At the moment he has 80 Videos but still hasn't covered everything. Sometimes people just want a solution for their current problem.
