The Priority for the Dispenser is 1 and the Conveyor loader is set to 2. The second highest ranking result in the last youtube poll was "Tamer for a volcano" So i present to you a metal volcano design for Oxygen Not Included: The not energy efficient but tames all the metal volcanoes -tamer! (not niobium) Every Metal volcano (not niobium ;D )! Honestly though this took a lot of work and I hope it helps you. If you want more efficient tamer you need to build them specifically for each volcano type. But for now i hope this covers a large range of use cases :) Outputs the material at 130°C if you don't extent the cooling loop to the top right tile It is very easy to expand the cooling loop to the tile the material is dropped on. A minor improvement for those vulcanos with low dormancy period. Adding normal pipe under the pressure plate helps reduce the temperature just enough that it's faster then the dormancy period. From what I tested you can even change it to radiant pipe, but for the hotter vulcanos you will hover at 100C liquid temp.
@sam111823 жыл бұрын
Wow I did NOT know that about the liquid bridge (the heat equalization)! I will be using them a lot more now
@DoomBunny1013 жыл бұрын
That trick is pointless here. He could have just placed the temp-shift plate one tile to the left. Still it's Good to know about so you don't accidentally leak heat out of an insulated box though. Overall this build is needlessly complex for a survival build, and all to save a few materials that were likely plentiful. It's also not as small as advertised unless connected into your power grid (I guess simulated by the Klei sandbox-mode generator) as no battery is included.

hi i built this design for an iron volcano and my steel sweeper overheated. i used conveyor bridges + rails and filled the empty background tile spaces with igneous drywall to spread the heat a little more im assuming that's going to fix it. i built everything out of steel if not specified just because. it's 9.7k/s at 2526.9/s 43s every 772s. i really like this setup! figured id give the feedback and say thanks
@Luma_plays3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob! Thanks for the information. Just to be sure try it without the changes and see if it still overheats. If you want to you can share a picture in the discord. As to how the changes might affect the system: I did not test it with background tiles. So i am not sure how that could affect the build. Drywall has a very high mass of 400kg per tile that is 4 times the mass of a regular tile and can save up way more heat then otherwise possible. and if you used that everywhere you are transfering heat where it should not be transfered too. But i can also be totally wrong and it is something else :) As for testing there is a save file in the description so if you want to check it out you can find that there. The materials are listed in the short video that belongs to this explainer video, as far as i remember; or you check the save file. I Hope one of these suggestions help.
@MrZAPPER10003 жыл бұрын
the idea with the igneous drywall is that it will store up heat and regulate the temperature better. the steam turbine will have to delete the heat stored in the drywall during the volcano's dormancy which means less heat needs to be dealt with during the active phase. that does mean that all the items are going to stay in the tamer in large batches though

So I know this isn't the point of the video... but if you're only concerned about gathering the materials from the volcano (let's say an iron volcano)... as a complete noob, could I literally just build a steam chamber + steam turbine like you show at :14 and (assuming I build a conveyer/setup to retrieve the contents after sealing it up)... that'd work?
@Luma_plays11 ай бұрын
Yeah probably. There are more factors to be aware of like having enough steam in there to not create heat spikes. You want an even stable temperature. If the temperature gets to hot it hasn't been enough steam turbines. If your steam EVER gets over 135!°C it would be a good idea to actively cool all your turbines. If steam stays under that passive cooling is enough. So in praxis you will probably need 2 or 3 turbines an aquatuner a cooling loop and either an entrance to the steam chamber via double liquid locks or a conveyor loader setup

I've been trying to make a volcanoe tamer were I use salt/polluted water to get the metal, dirt, salt, and fresh water, but I can't seem to get it right. Luckily it's not due to everything catching on fire, but due pressure and to cold issues surprisingly. Any ideas on how to make it work more effectively?
@Luma_plays2 жыл бұрын
That is specific to the volcano and its heat you are working with. Maybe use mechanical doors to avoid overpressure and split the liquid metal area from the gas area so you can have different atmospheres and pressures. I don't see and issue with your Idea itself. should work fine. Dump the liquids in the volcano room. surround the room with tiles or doors. place a steam room on top which is cooled by the steam turbine. put stuff in to get stuff out. done.

There is a version using less steel and able to construct without the DLC?
@Luma_plays2 жыл бұрын
Hi Hmm. Here is my answer :): There is no part in there that requires the DLC. I don't think there are any -construction relevant - parts in the game that are DLC only. In this build it is not possible to reduce the amount of steel (noticable). You can easily build a version not using steel and not using an aquatuner. But you will need to make it big and self cooled (use the output water from the steam turbine to cool the Steamturbine itself). If you want your build to be usable for all the volcanoes (no niobium) then you need 4 steamturbines. Hope that helps.

Nice compact build. Just to mention, your demo is absolutely able to power itself so there is no need for those dev-generators ;) I just wonder how to determine when/how the cooled metal can be picked from the top right spot?
@Luma_plays Жыл бұрын
The dev generators are for stable testing. even in a normal game i would have the metal volcano tamer on the main grid just in case the dormancy is too long and the system ran out of inherrent power. You can pick up the material pretty quickly after it dropped in the top right corner if you already have a bit of material accumulaterd there. If you remove the material each time it needs longer too cool down. (The game has different debris temperature calculations- either it tries to average or it tries to use the temp that the debris already has deleting even more heat in the process - or creating heat if the debris is very hot) So you have to decide on a pick up time depending on your cooling situation, the amount of debris and the material used or volcano material. Hence i can't give you any specific time frame. Hope that helped :)
@WalkerRileyMC Жыл бұрын
Just the aquatuner can't stay on long enough to cool the coolant loop with just a single +800w turbine. had to hook it up to an additional power source which kinda defeats the purpose of the compact design. Otherwise great build.
@Luma_plays Жыл бұрын
This is not self powered. you would need external power to use it. To make it self powered you probably could just add a second turbine. The smallness was intended for the mini base map.

You should rly eliminate the AT thrashing on and off. I like how small it is but i dont like how hot the material leaves the system cos its free for dupes to pick up when hot or if u wanna just lead the rail farther from it. So all in all it kinda needs more space if one would rly want to cool down the output to approx room temperature. Its nice cos how small it is and cos u use naphtha (all hail the best liq in the game haha) but i still think you sacrificed too much usefulness and function just save very little space. So ye, material on exit rail imho should be at safe to use temperature. Ill be sticking to my version of tony's idea but it is nice to have options for people i guess. Oh and you have heat injection into the ins tile wall with automation bridge and you could also spill a layer of nuc waste on the 3 ins tiles beneath AT to prevent heat leak. Cos as u know gasses better conduct heat to tiles than any other phases so those will get relatively hot soon and will start bleeding heat.
@Luma_plays3 жыл бұрын
Hi tyrael in a normal game i would consider running the conveyor rails through the Naphta on top of the steam turbine. And closing the drop of point with doors and automation. But in this version I went with what you see :). And the heat bleading into the walls was accepted. Because I would build the whole thing in a vacuum.
