Unfortunately you’ll probably have to get a new carpet. I imagine the underlay is also soaked so you’d want to see the damage to the underfloor too and prevent any mould/damp issues in the future

Alex mate, just pull up the carpet & underlayment, dump it and replace - I flooded my whole living room carpet and tried everything to get it dry - industrial wet vacuum, big fans & heaters and altho it did get quite a bit dryer after a couple days the smell didn't go away (got worse) - the underlay is like a giant nasty sponge - save yourself time & heartache and replace it!

Pull up the carpet ASAP, then get the water up and then get a large floor fan to dry the floor before installing new carpet.
@yannlandry92423 жыл бұрын
If you manage to dry the carpet and clean it and it still smells moldy, get rid of it asap. You should as well cut the drywall 2 to 4 feet from the floor, depending on how much water there was and how long it took before you cut. Drywall will absorb water and get moldy so if it had enough time to absorb a lot, you might want to take out as much as you can before mold starts to build up inside the walls. Been there, trust me...
@felboy20003 жыл бұрын
Hire a large industrial dehumidifier. Let it run for few days and its all gone. Im a plumber and work in maintenance, have dealt with many floods. If anything after it is all dry just do a quick once over with carpet cleaner vacume and you'll be golden.
@Shadow19873 жыл бұрын
Get as much water out of the carpet first, then dry the room out for about 4 hours with a heater, then use baking soda and sprinkle this all over the carpet, leave for 24 hours to soak up the smell and any hairs stuck in the carpet that may be contributing to it. You can also use some essential oils in a wax warmer to help get rid of the smell, once the 24 hours is over, vacuum the carpet as normal, hope this helps, worked for us.
@DCProductionsYTC3 жыл бұрын

Dehumidifier going constantly to dry it out. Then bicarbonate of soda in a sieve and sprinkle all over carpets, like a ridiculous amount of it... let dry then Hoover up. Might not be enough as if it's very wet the underlay could be mouldy too. The exact same thing happened to me a few years back. put Heat up on max and you will need a dehumidifier. If mould is left it might affect your lungs long term.
@stepmcgiggity85833 жыл бұрын

@callumkennedy10983 жыл бұрын
Hey Alex I did a little research about the carpet smell mouldy, Treat your carpet with a mixture of one cup of white vinegar and two cups of warm water. Use a spray bottle to gently mist over the carpet. Be careful to not oversaturate it as increased moisture can lead to mold growth. Pour a copious amount of baking soda - an amazing odor neutralizer - on the carpet,,,,,, you don’t have to do this but maybe worth a shot but don’t want to ruin your carpet
@Callum-eg2qz3 жыл бұрын
Carpet will need replacing as the underlay absorbs water like a sponge so it will be very difficult to dry out with that volume of water, you should also examine the extent of damage to the subfloor as if it’s left covered it will simply rot...

You might need to take the carpet up in the cinema room and see if there is mold and damage under it, then install new carpet, I don’t think that the carpet you have now is gonna ever be 100% again, but I could be wrong. Also a dehumidifier. That should help with most of it just don’t forget to empty it and keep using the cleaner to get as much water out as you can

get a shop vac for floors, brushing is a waste of time, keep using the hoover, and you need air moving through it, so use a lot of fans. This is coming from someone who has had a basement flood several times. If it's still bad, you may need to replace the carpet. The carpet has a foam layer, which can get moldy, and the time you have left it wet isn't good. That being said it really depends. But air circulation is key.
