Hi NJ, The problem is that you started off wrong - you didn't set boundaries right at the start. I believe in being nice and kind always, but your relationship was of an EMPLOYEE and EMPLOYER. Unfortunately, Angel took liberties and "ABUSED" your kindness. What a wasted opportunity!! No doubt she's now realising how foolishly she acted. She took advantage of your kind nature. Just remember if there's there's a next time to always set boundaries. Sorry you had such a bad experience.

In fact, you see that your resolution, that is the same for me after i also learnt my lesson. Someone I welcomed in my home, shopped for, treated for eczema and low blood level, in fact a lot things. She enters her room by 7pm and wakes up after 6am. My mum who had come to assist me because i had just given birth was working more than her. This girl got the guts to insult me and my parents (my over 70 year old retired doctor parents o) because she heard me tell the agency that i could no longer work with her because she was lazy. She knew she was leaving anyway so she just started misbehaving. The things she said shocked me to the marrow!! I have one now and I am trying not to be too nice. It is hard, but once bitten twice shy sha!

I had a help 2020 who stayed for 5 months. We made her comfortable to the best of our ability to the extent that people said we over did. Long story short, she left to make and sell broom, work from one restaurant to the other. This person who was eating what she wants would call her people in her language and complain of hunger. I was mad when her parents told my mom her report which were all lies but I was HAPPY within because I gave her more than she had ever had and a better look than she came and was weeks after she left! I have learned my lessons and told myself that the next person would not have such privileges yet I wont be a MONSTER !!

My own is no matter how you treat these people, some of them, the thing controlling them is more spiritual than physical. While some comes in with this entitlement mentality. Myself, I have never had help because I can be like NJ, I will be feeling guilty foe something I know is right because I may just be thinking maybe I did something wrong. Abeg!, I prefer work and go.

She never bathe the child but was washing with either myself or my niece. I work in a college of education and at the time, I was at the admission office( the girl knew) yet her parents told me they want her back because the want to apply to a college of education. Its been 2 years but I'm tearing as I type.

You didn’t do anything wrong. Even if she had a phone or not I’m sure she always had it in her to do something like this. It just baffles me how people spoil opportunities for others because you’ll never try this with another help again. I try to make it my prayer point everyday that “Let no one hurt the spirit of whoever is destined to help me before I meet them”. You’re a wonderful person and I know God will give you exactly what suits you ❤️.

Please don’t be too quick to do a YT video with them esp the ones that’re social media friendly. Your grace & personality will get you a good person eventually. Boundaries are very important and not to be taken for granted and compromised.Love and care for them but ensure you are not endangering yourself.Never get to the point whereby you are too relaxed.Where possible,let them not leave with you.They love being free.I have my stories.God be with you sis..

Yes o. They love being free to waka not knowing they can compromise ones security. I live in a gated and secure estate. My maid can’t go out freely without my consent. I saw she was frustrated staying indoors all day time. She felt it was best she resign.

I thought having live-in helps was luxury until I had my triplet. I've seen shege but thank God my kids are growing and have started daycare. I now have one help and we are coping. She's not perfect but she's willing to stay.

I took back all the clothes I bought and she has been going around complaining to everyone that I took the clothes from her. The thing really pained her. I don’t have house helps but if I do, the person will NEVER have a phone, that is the condition I’ll give to the person bringing her. Davido’s son passed because the help was on the phone. SM is very addictive, I’ll rather fill the house with books and encourage her to read but you see mobile phone NEVER.

You see all these helps ehn 😂 I stopped trying to act nice to the one in my house because she's rude, saucy, doesn't know how to talk,if you ask her to do something her expressions will change,I think she has changed now after my dad scolded her that he'll send her out if she doesn't change. Something told me to check her torch light phone 😅 This girl is 17 and she has like 3 boyfriends that she's managing, I was just saying "heeeh" as I was checking her phone😂 I checked her bag and I found a pregnancy test strip( I didn't tell my parents tho), she's always on the phone calling her men,we can't hear whatever she discuss with them because we don't understand her language. She even had the guts to ask for my parents to buy her an android phone and that they should remove it from her pay (scope 😂) She's going home for Christmas and my mum said she's not going to allow her come back She has done a lot, I wish I can do a vn because 😂

lol. My help dt I took like a sister. Anytime I caution her in presence of my husband, she wd retreat into her shell. Not wanting to eat or associate. She wd say mummy I dnt like wat u said…in tears!!. I’m like…😮I’m ur boss, I correct u when u are wrong. She’s 35 wit 3 kids and separated from her husband. She packed her bags and left my house one Sunday morning. Maybe she liked my husband or maybe she feels too big to be corrected. 🤷‍♀️ I’ve discovered that those maids dt have sisters in same town as where they are working dnt blink an eyelid…they are tired of d work they pack to their sisters place.

I had the same experience with my helper after 2yrs of working for me i did everything i could to make her happy i bought new phone very expensive i was paying her so well i make sure i give extra cash to cover her transportation, eat anything you want as food is not a problem for me, she went on holiday was unable to come back because of cash i paid she came back , one beautiful morning i was waiting for her as usual zhe sent me a message saying i travel to johannesburg so i wont come back. Try calling no response asked her friend what wrong no response i was so so disappointed it wasnt easy for me the whole situation pain me so much.. Not a good expérience especially when you trust and love the person. I took the same decision you come for work i treat you as a worker no extra no pamparing. Let keep it there even if you leave it wont affect me. So my dear NJ just forget about her.

My dear, what you have to know is that there is nothing you do to please them. My help then will always leave my kids to go and meet her boyfriend in an uncompleted building near our house. She bribes our gateman so that he wouldn't let me know. Luck ran out of her the day i came back before my usual time, i didn't see her at home. She later came back and lied eventually Gateman exposed her.

Chai, aunty NJ I experienced almost the same thing (betrayalof trust and confidence). It was painful eh. I was nice and kind but maybe not to the extreme like you. I cried the day she left because i was like 'after everything?' You see that ' I collected the things I bought for her' I did the same and I don't regret it, eziokwu. Her mum was so mad that I took the things I gave her. Some people were like i shouldn't have, yea, but I did... I took the clothes and stuff to the church for welfare because i don't think I'm getting a househelp any time soon.

Before social media parent& guidance were complaining of teenagers/young adult but with socal media now I don't know better way to cob them, just that you over pamper her with unlimited restrictions to socal media (doing live), 24hrs internet, Netflix etc indeed you be original daughter of Jehovah Overdo. Most young adult will ruin such opportunities except the ones that uses it for educational purposes or to acquire skills, if it's just to roam from Facebook to Instagram to KZbin etc they are probably going to misbehave. I am so grateful that she did not not expose/implicate your family to any of the ills in the Country now.

Hi Nj, I knew it; with all of the niceness you spoke about that the story would end up this exact way. There are people like her scattered all over the world. Hmmmm.... Well said sis! Actually the wicked ones have helps that stay long with them. Weldone, you tried you did your best, I love the courage you had to collect the clothes. I'm still trying to set boundaries with my househelps. Like, you just spoke like me right now coz I think I have a heart for young girls. I ensure I treat them well. They eat what I eat etc but most of them still misbehave. I have had my own fair share of the househelp palava. I have had one insult me when leaving and many of them take one's niceness for granted. It's a long story.... Most of them are actually after men, they don't want to work for money, they just want men to give them money. Just recently, my cousin told me that my relationship with my househelp is making her take me for granted which is true and my husband once said something, he said that I care so much about the lives of these girls but they care less about me and my family. Most of them, no matter how nice you are to them are just very selfish and would only do the things that would suit them. I have so much to say about this coz in my 4years of having househelps ( coz of the nature of my job), it's not been so pleasant. Can't wait for my kids to be grown so that I can do without having a help. I am still trying to set boundaries but it's sometimes difficult because of my nature. I pray for wisdom on how to handle them. Househelp ish can be stressful. I remember a pastor in my church once said that they had to really really pray about the househelp thing and even sowed seeds in church and God finally gave them someone that stayed with them for 8 years. I pray God give you wisdom on how to handle the househelp and I pray this particular househelp stays with you for long. My advise is that you keep your househelp off your channel to avoid issues. You can't trust these people, most of them are ungrateful and impatient, you don't know their next line of action. Right now, I ensure my househelp does the job she is employed to do and I ensure she does it well cos, I have really really stressed myself in the name of "I don't want to stress my househelp" but they still end up leaving or sometimes we have to send them away coz of their behavioural issues. I now ensure I utilise them, afterall, they are paid to do it. Thank God that my husband is firm, it has helped me coz I'm so soft that I get taken for granted but my husband sits them up. I'll do my best for my househelp, if they choose to leave, fine. I know I have tried. For phone, I can help you fix your spoilt phone but to give a new one or my old phone, you have to stay with me for like 1 year plus. Coz these days, I noticed that these girls are phone addicts, instead of doing their jobs, they'll be on phones... I can keep typing about this but in a nutshell. While they are around, utilize them, do the best you can do for them, advise them about life, hygiene, their future etc. Don't carry their problem, including their family problems on your head, do the best you can do. Be ready for any shocker, If they choose to leave, move on and don't depend on them for everything. I'll be glad to know more about how to set boundaries coz I'm so open and free and I hate it, I'm working so hard on overcoming that.
