I feel u. The most i paid for a plant was $27 for a Gardenia braid because daughter fell in love with it. It sadly died because my window couldn’t give it the light it needed. Next is my ZZ Raven i paid $15 for. I drive around and hunt for bargains. I have a large wish list however but i cant afford them so i watch KZbin videos and enjoy seeing them in other peoples’ homes

This is so cute because we literally have the EXACT same hoya collection!! My linearis is about the same size, also in a little white ceramic pot, but my carnosa compacta variegata and pubicalyx are much smaller!! I bought my compacta as a plug from one of my favorite local nurseries, and it’s currently working on its 4th leaf since I bought it in June or July!! And then just this week, I bought a big hoya obovata and I am SO FREAKING EXCITED for it to get here!!!!

You could try a sheer curtain for the east facing window. I had to do the same with one window in my place and it seemed to help.

Hoya compacta and hoya kerrii are slow growers. If you want to buy one and expect them to grow faster. Choose the ones with the top-cut. The ones rooted with shoots on them.

Your hoya carnosa tricolor is actually a Krimson Queen. Where yours has white on the border of the leaves, tricolors have it in the center 😁

Just started collecting these and I have the Carnosa Rubra and just ordered the Fitchii from Gardino's Nursery, which hasn't shipped yet. I live in Southern Calif (L.A.) but don't see Hoya in the big nurseries very often - usually the smaller independently owned shops have them. So glad to know that you have had such success growing them in your hotter climate. The eastern sun here can be pretty intense too.

Hoya carnosa tricolour was our first here toooooo and it also experienced some "troubles" too - I think we got bought it in it's "trouble" state because it lives in a prime location in our work space - huge window, great light, etc. You are great! Subbed. We're going to find you on Insta tooo. :)

60. Is alot for a cutting I couldnt.. I could have bought that the other day for 10.98 its crazy how the prices vary on certain plants. Of course I have to wait and visit certain stores each week to see what came in which isnt fun some weeks but I did get 2 of the hoya carnosa rubra krimson princess for 10.98 and I am in love with them too So I hope yours grows a ton this growing season.

Oh my, the Hoya linearis is such an unusual hoya. It's one I've been looking at for a short time now, but I live in Perth, Australia and we seem to be the last ones to have access to the 'exotic' plants you think of from Instagram and KZbin. A few other Hoyas I find interesting are Hoya obscura, Hoya vitellinoides and Hoya curtisii. However, they still don't have foliage as unusual as the linearis, but they are still pretty. I have three small cutting of different hoyas. A Hoya compacta variegata (my first), a Hoya 'honeydew' which has velvety foliage and a Hoya memoria which has flecks of cream all over the mature leaves.

I have some cuttings from a Hoya Carnosa that are rooting in water, and my husband got me a Hoya Iris Marie from Logee's that is really nice- definitely worth the price, it was huge! I want a Hoya Obovata but I am not sure about spending so much on a plant and having it shipped, I can't find any Hoyas locally.

It’s crazy how expensive some plants are in certain parts of the world! I just saw a big and full Hoya linearis for 15€ at a nursery here in Berlin. Didn’t buy it though..I wasn’t sure I had enough space. I may go back and get it though 🤔

I use jobes plant sticks fertilizer sticks for my oils and they are absolutely huge. I took cuttings from my Crimson princess last year and have for little plants but then I learned by taking those cuttings maybe I was robbing it of Bloom so I'm not taking any cuttings until I see if it goes through Bloom cycle. I also give it leftover fertilizer water from what I soak my orchids in I love Hoyas and I have started a collection of them and surprisingly found some at the local Nursery. That have bought some from Gardino Nursery almost Eden Nursery plant Arena Nursery and also Gabriella Nursery

I'm still trying to work out the kinks of growing hoyas. My first one was a tiny carnosa compacta. I dont think it has grown since I bought it over a year ago. I just bought a rotundiflora for its rectangular leaves. Sounds like I should try fertilizing the leaves to see if it makes a difference.

Look up Hoya websites for ideas. Hoyas can be slow growers so don't be impatient. Also, don't overwater as they are a plant that lives off other plants, that is it makes its home in the company of other plants but not off other plants. Patience is the key and they will reward you with their beautiful blooms and perfume. I am finally venturing into Hoyas after many, many years of indoor plant growing. Looking forward to getting flowers but patience is the key! All the best with your beauties!

Here's the best thing you can do with a Hoya : Nothing.I have one that i grew from a cuttling about 10 years ago. Since it was before i got into plants,i put it on a pot with regular soil...and i mean regular,no mulch,perlite,etc.Nothing.I have it on the outside of my kitchen window where i have a little covered fence and it just went crazy end vined all around it.I water it every other day in the summer,and once a week in the winter and in it gives flowers every year.The less you do with these plants,the better.Hope it helps.
