I wouldn't have bothered trying to work out about his mother, he is a mummies boy, she ,the mother in law had no right to be in the home unless the occupants were home. It is an invasion of privacy and she would be far better off without him. Wouldn't have stood for it.

What I would have done was wait til they were gone and get security cameras installed in the house and have it be with a security firm like simply safe to get the intruders caught and you can get them punished without problems as you have also your own cameras videoing as well as the ones from simply safe. MIL and husband would not be able to get out of that problem.
