If my daughter talked to me like that, I would have washed her mouth with soap. Then, I would turn on my husband for supporting the daughter for acting like that and allowing her to talk to me that way.

OP..I don't take well to being told what the hell to do..He's sleeping with your child. And you're oblivious to what's happening in your own home. My daughter would be looking for her teeth. Hoping the imprint on her face would go away..ONE DAY. Time for him and her to move..at least get out of your sight!!

Having your kids get along with a stepparent is good, but when they exclude the other parent or ignore them or talk trash to them that's a huge red flag. I'd divorce John and depending how old the girl is, send her off to her bio father to take care of.

I don't think OP should make excuses for her husband, chances are that's where the daughter gets the attitude from. Even in rebellious stages of growing up kids don't normally get that nasty. If they ignored me for several years other than to insult me I'd of left long ago.

not incestuous, he's not her bio dad but it was an unethical and immoral relationship. Depending when it started it might even be child grooming and molesting

Not "face" it's phase...she's going through a phase. I am appalled she stayed in that marriage as long as she did. Once your daughter called you a useless old hag, and husband didn't reprimand her, the relationship was over. You should have left then, at least squirreled away money so you could leave and have a soft landing. Not my culture though, so it's pretty easy to have opinions.

This is a "Lolita" story (novel where a girl seduces an older man, the author of the novel is Nabakov). Her second ex husband John used his lawyer friend to successfully sue for custody (I actually think Emily was in her late teens (over 18) so she was an adult and it was not incest because John was not her bio dad, only a step dad). John also demanded a settlement from Rose. Rose was left moneyless, in debt, barely scraping by to live poorly after the divorce. What was Rose supposed to do? It was an accident that she found out many years later the two of them were having an affair. She only hired the investigator when she found out Emily was getting married. It was too late to "protect" Emily from John but Rose could protect Emily's fiancé from marriage fraud. It is not a great answer but life is often unfair. As my husband says, "fair" is an artificial concept that only applies in games, not in life. And John and Emily were both responsible for the affair they had even if Emily was much younger than John.

I discovered that, in some countries, it's illegal for a (let's put it politely) relationship between stepdad and stepdaughter, even though there's no blood relation.

Those 2 should count themselves lucky that they do not live in germany. Here they would probably have been accused and punished for being in an incestous relationship, even if they were not related by blood. BUT primary requirement for that is, that she is fiancially dependence and it sounds like that, or if the Daughter is under 18 years (Age of Majority in Germany).

How big of a fool can Rose be. She divorces her husband and marries John to be a father to her young daughter Emily. John was provided a nubile young girl to teach the art of love. Emily was more than happy to steal a man from her loser mom. There was no incest only raw sex to-win a rich man for marriage. So glad Rose ruined the game. She never figured it out.
