How long do these couples know each other before they decide to get married?!? It's like they don't know each other or haven't spent any quality time together. If you're getting married just to be able to say you're married, they're idiots. Hard to believe 1% of story.

Specifically in domestic abuse cases (often involving sociopaths or psychopaths), the abuser typically puts on a front to appease to the victim - who they have identified as vulnerable - and moves through stages of relationships extremely quickly, aka love bombing. This then moves to a marriage the abuser pushes for. The victim is then essencially trapped in the marriage as both parties must consent to the divorce if the marriage isnt over 5 years old or the victim can prove domestic abuse took place. Essencially meaning the abuser can do what they like while knowing the victim is stuck. Most domestic abuse victims also dont speak up out of fear or because they begin to rationalise and normalise these actions.

Toxic people often don't show their true colors until after they are married because they think they have a partner "locked in" and can do whatever they want now.

There are cultures where marriages are arranged by families. Why do you assume every person in the world has an American experience? This has happened to many women across Asia.

Are there really people who believe such stories?

Considering my son's father acted like the husband, yes. It's ok for them to be around the opposite sex and get space but when you do it, all hell breaks loose.

@@DKING9 No. Your son's father did not go on your honeymoon without you.

@@ricksimon9867 Just to name one instance, he took my mom to another country, where he married her. Then he sent her back home early (to our home country), ahead of himself, while he stayed behind to cheat on her right after the wedding. I think that's pretty similar. But there are other similar and shady things he's done. He was a pretty awful man, to put it mildly. Edit: Oh, and my mom was pregnant with twins at this time. What a magical time in her life. Yeah, he was a real piece of work.
