Jake should have coolly, but very FIRMLY put them in their place after the 2nd smart-aleck underhanded comment from the mother-in-law! Jake needed to state that if they felt his intentions weren't genuine, he'd move out as soon as Laura returned! Then they might've notch down and even apologize. But he let it continue, which emboldened "Jane" to pile it on. It's good that they moved out, but they should not cut them off. Just set some parameters and keep the communications lines open.
