Disappointed with two things Ingemar, 1. At 6:17 I thought you were going to go straight up that brown dirt, you didn't! 2. Not enough Thor 😉 Kidding aside, great vid. I remember test driving the Gren on a particularly steep climb, it just seemed to walk up without drama. Good on you mate! ps. More Thor

Good stuff Ingemar, looks like a fun day, thank you. Being from the southwest USA, we would love to see the car tackle some steep rocky (mountain) terrain. Hopefully the snow is melting in the Alps and you can get Loki out there. Great video as always.

Yeah that's what I'm saying! I live in Southern Arizona Around the Tucson area we have some extremely tough trails and it pretty much dominated by super modded jeeps and Toyotas. I drive a disco 2. I feel like this Grenadier struggled more than I expected in this video on stuff they really didn't look that bad even that Steep Hill at the start. But maybe it was tires. I'm used to running mud terrains down at like 18 lb with just traction control and Center diff lock but it walks Rocky cross axle steeper climbs than that better way more dangerous with step-ups at the top. Pretty much everything on this video looks very easy so it's probably the tires. Seems like some places almost can't find hard enough Terrain compared to Southwestern America or parts of Australia all huge ruts, cross axle but instead of on flat ground add the steepest hill possible to it

I really appreciate your videos. In this one I'm curious how the Grenadier handles when backing down the hill at 1:37. Were there any issues shifting into reverse when not making the climb? Were you able to slowly crawl down the hill or did it try to run away? Does Hill decent work in reverse? Would love to see that video if available. Again thanks for sharing!!!
@grenadier_exploring
@grenadier_exploring Жыл бұрын
hi. thanks a lot! it is easy to shift quickly into R and let it roll down. since I was in LOW range, the speed was nicely under control. you can also use the HillDescentControl in R (up to 15km/h I think) There is another OFF-Road video coming soon and then I will show that as well...

What do you think the steepest accent and decent angle are and what distance do you think ? I've been hiking some fire tracks that I know lots of 4×4 would simply not make it up?

@slbran75
@slbran75 Жыл бұрын
@@grenadier_exploring no, I mean on actual hills/ 4×4 locations. Most of the video I've seen is quite stage/location managed. We know the side angles is 45° I haven't seen a side by side comparison of different 4x4s and if it can take the A /B/ C lines. Gravel roads, farm paddocks don't cut it, and I really don't want to go on a 4×4 course to be embarassed or find out a cheaper ute/4x4 can handle tracks better!

Question: When going up such steep hills like on the video, with low range and manual mode selected on the gearbox: Will the gearbox hold the selected gear even if you keep it at rather high revs? If I understand it correctly, the new defender forced gearchange, often at very inconvenient moments while climbing steep hills, resulting in uneven drive and subsequent failed climb. The new defender also has one of the ZF gearboxes, and I fear they may not have solved this issue on the grenadier.
@grenadier_exploring
@grenadier_exploring Жыл бұрын
as far as i experienced it, it keeps the gear - no forced gear change. but i haven't revved it out. i might try that these days.

hmm...i will do a 10.000km review next week and address a few things. but for now: - fix the small software issues and nuisance warnings - better display brightness control and automatic (head)light switching. illumination of the slot for the key (it's hard to find at night) - proper handles at every door for easier entry/exit

@Grenadier_Exploring I finally got to drive PT02-077 yesterday. The course did not have a long climb, only a steep descent. The truck handles very solidly and was easy to navigate. 1) Can you confirm that the front fenders are load bearing (you can stand on them)? 2) Does the passenger side have a vanity mirror in the sun visor? 3) the phone platform at the base of the center stack, does it offer wireless charging? Or do you need to run a cable from the center storage.? 4) the glove box is fairly small. Is it used up by the user manual or is that stored elsewhere? 5) is there a fold-down center armrest in the back (with cup holders)? Now waiting for May 16, 2023 to hear final US specs and pricing. Thanks for all the great information Ingemar!

1.) depends on the region. in europe no (due to pedestrian protection laws) in australia/south africa etc. yes... 2.) no. talked to them...they didn't want to imply that the women are sitting in the passenger seat 🤷🏻‍♂️... 3.) you need a cable 4.) i only store small items there...tissues etc.. I have my manual only as PDF 5.) no. also no cupholders in the back. places for bottles in the doors I am very curious about the pricing in the US

@@grenadier_exploring LMAO! No mirror because someone in the passenger seat might be a woman and she may want to check her hair... Or you know a guy checking his beard! Sounds more like a cost savings; they can use the same visor now regardless of side. When I talked to the pro-driver and the tech guy, both indicated that the fender in the US would be load-bearing to about 300lbs. But since we don't get the brush bars because pedestrians, then you would think we also don't get the crush resistant vender. On the prototype the fob was kinda big. How is the production one?

@@grenadier_exploring so the US pricing was released today and it's stupid expensive. My paired down = $88500, with all the options I'd like it's 97500. That's msrp, so it may be a bit less at the dealer, BUT it excludes accessories installation, taxes and fees. I can buy a Toyota 4runner AND a Tacoma for that! Or get a gently used 550 G-wagon. So unfortunately as far as I'm concerned, I'm canceling my reservation. What did the price come out to for you?

Just found your channel and your experiences with the Grenadier. I‘m wondering about the license plate as I’m from the exact same region and realized BB-IA xxxx to be used by INEOS for their own testing and development vehicles. Is your car such an example or do you just share the same license plate pattern?
@grenadier_exploring
@grenadier_exploring Жыл бұрын
the car is/was registered on Ineos because the austrian import company was not ready. that was the only solution to hand me my car over at such an early stage. now i got the austrian papers and a new license plate 😉😎

I live all your videos. I would be very interested to see how easy it is to move and relocate the cargo barrier. Also how strong the seat backs are when folded down. How much load can they take in your opinion when folded? Thanks again.
@grenadier_exploring
@grenadier_exploring Жыл бұрын
installing of the (flexible) cargo barrier is done in a few moments. hang it into the slots and then tie it down with the hooks on the back of the seats...30-45sec. i was crawling on the folded seats, transported all kind of stuff...i think they are very strong. they also have a plastic surface on the back, which becomes the floor once folded.

Compared to the old Defender, you literally see the 500 kg more weight. This car moves more like a G-Wagon. Not good, especially when you add the (only) 700 kg of payload. Everything will be under 500 kg more strain and in rough terrain I see things breaking faster. Increased chassis strength will not help much here and the coil springs will likely also fail in African environments - because it's just too heavy.
