I spec’d one out and fitted very similar to the one you tested and that thing was around $90,000 before taxes. When they were first flirting with us on the Grenadier it was supposed to be affordable. It was supposed to be from what they were hinting at about $30,000 LESS than what they brought it to market for. It’s hard to convey it in text but the numbers just simply don’t add up.

When did they announce it? Like 5-7 years ago? Have you been living under a rock since then? Do you not recall a global pandemic? Do you not recognize record high inflation? Have you not been paying attention to the entire housing and car market? Everything costs significantly more than what it did 5 years ago. Hello McFly…

With broncos and jeep wranglers coming in at 50-60k with lockers, 73k for a grenadier with lockers isn’t out of pocket. Also, Grenadier allows you to pick basically any option you want without gating them behind a trim level. They did a lot of things right but obviously it is expensive.

For a starting price of $71k on this thing that dashboard setup is pretty low rent. If I'm seeing it right there's not even a speedometer in front of the wheel which would be easy to remedy if they'd swap that 90's era "information screen" out for another standard display. 14 mpg is horrendous and I'm sure could be improved if they would let you take the vehicle out of 4WD mode for the street. I do like the look though. Looks like a combo of a G-wagen and a Defender.

When I break stuff on my Wrangler, parts are super easy to find. If you break an axle shaft in one of these, its going to be tough to find parts. I also dislike the lack of a proper gauge cluster. However, I LOVE the looks, and all the physical switches. Which makes the digital screen for the gauges even more weird.

Yes, I dislike the daft placement of the speedometer etc.. I suspect it is down to Radcliffe's sense of nostalgia for the first Land Rovers which also had the speedometer in the centre as did many older UK built vehicles. Idk? I like the design of my new Defender 90 more than I like this. I mean if you just want to keep that classic old defender look it’s fine but prefer the looks and clearances far more on my Defender 90. I have close to 13” of ground clearance before even going to off-road height currently. I would like to see a head to head on the Lexus, Toyota, Bronco, and Ineos. I am 55k miles into my Defender without a single issue. I’m sure the Grenadier has just as many electronics and bits that can go wrong as well so I will wait and see. Where would you get service on these? It looks like a great vehicle for the people it’s a good fit for. Just looks a little low on ground clearance. It will take quite a few bucks to get this built for solid off-road use. It’s already 90k without being fully spec’d. You would probably land around 110k. Hopefully the aftermarket comes fast and furious with parts for this. I hope they turn out great. Will just need to wait and see.

The Ineos Grenadier looks like a solid vehicle! Would love to get one, but it would be interesting to compare it to the Lexus GX550 or Yoda Land Cruiser 250 (I know that these two vehicles have IFS while the Grenadier has a SFA).

Would love to see a real head-to-head comparison between this and the Lexus GX550 (both 6 cyl. turbo - no hybrid). Compare them for price, build quality/fit and finish, on-road (road trip) and off-road driving impressions and capabilities - though I would think the Grenadier is better off-road with the solid axels and 3 lockers, getting to the off-road I assume the GX would be a smoother, easier and a more relaxing drive.

Yeah Land Rover really had a massive missed opportunity not remaking the defender like this. It's still way way too expensive for what it is though. Also what do the TFL guys have against airing down tires off road? Lol they always have them at 40 or 50 psi on the trail. I think they are just too lazy at this point.
@scottenlow5249

Airing down isn't nessacary if you have good suspension to absorb the small bumps on dirt roads and when you are on solid dry surface.

This is what we could have had if Land Rover had evolved the Defender every 8 years or so like the Jeep CJ/Wrangler. Instead, they left it in 1983 with a body shell from the 1960s and only minimal updates to the engine as required by legislation.

@@bwofficial1776exactly true. What I like to say is that people act surprised when the new defender came out and were disappointed but really you could have seen it coming I mean they were only making the old one in the later years because they just had the factory it's not like those Engineers were still there LOL should have guessed how it would be based on the way everything turned after the Discovery 3 and Beyond

If you go back a few years and watch the story about the making of this thing it was that when the defender came out all modern and electronic with no solid axles a wealthy businessman went to Land Rover and asked if he could buy the rights to the defender body because they were so disappointed in the new Defender and Land Rover said no but they pretty much copied it anyways because this was meant to tell Land Rover what they should have done with the defender and the Grenadier was the name of the bar they thought of this idea in

I feel it should be a bit cheaper from the get go. Based on what I’ve seen in the comments it starts at 70k. I think 40k would be more reasonable. I’m personally not a fan of bmw motors but that’s more or less personal bad luck on the few I ran into. They should definitely swapped the shifter.

Is this the Test track off road area for Red Nolan COS? I passed by there the other day and saw the blue and white versions there and am tempted to schedule a test drive... I just don't want to get too excited for something a touch outside my budget... I could see spending 60-70k max but speced out at 90 NO way for an untested platform. I might adopt a used one in the future but def not an early adopter.

I love these rigs; however I don't know what possessed INEOS to put the speedometer on the center screen instead of on top of the steering wheel. It just seems unsafe to me to have to look that far over from the road to see what speed you are running at.

Its surprisingly EASIER to read where it is at. Caught me off guard as well. But with out the steering wheel blocking the speedo, and having it right on the corner of the screen it is actually easier to read.

The steps seem horribly low and vulnerable for a serious off roader but other than that I do like the looks and overall setup, just needs the steps swapped for rock sliders. For the cost though I could pick up at least 10 decent LR3s.
