I spec’d one out and fitted very similar to the one you tested and that thing was around $90,000 before taxes. When they were first flirting with us on the Grenadier it was supposed to be affordable. I saw one in the 'wild' here in Germany already. Personally, I think these rigs look alot better in person than what I've seen on YT. Unfortunate that the US doesn't get the diesel variant but I suppose a mix of democrat climate change policies and VW's 'dieselgate' scandal helped kill the diesel in smaller applications what with emissions regulations increasing and suffocating motors. Great review guys!

Price is too high for what you’re getting. 15mpg on 31” tires!!! Bronco Raptor, Wrangler 392, V8 Defender, Toyota on long travel with portals, Lexus GX550 are all in the same price range and more capable.

@@R.Sole88109 I honestly don't recall. Seems like they had some fitted on the display models at Goodwood earlier this year but I didn't pay that much attention. I have to admit, the front end/grill/bumper is probably my least favorite view of the truck. Hopefully some aftermarket bumpers will help with that!

The solid axles and lockers always make stuff look easy. Those ridiculous steps need to go and we need an in depth analysis of the axles strength so we can determine what size tires they will hold up to.

They sourced the beam axles from Carraro who makes tractor axles. Up to 34" tires stock or 40mm spring lift will run 35+. Totally over spec'd.

Normally I'd gripe about the price tag, but since they don't have economy of scale on their side, and what they've brought to market is something I've desperately wanted to see I'll give them a pass. Still cant afford one, but I'll go on wanting one anyway.

As a Series 1, 2, 3 Land-rover and Land-rover defender owner in the past I was excited when Land-rover announced the new defender. The disappointment I felt when I seen the jelly mould they called the new defender. This new Inios is everything the new Defender should have been.
@ronaldrrootiii6040 Жыл бұрын
Yeah but when you think about it it was easily expected that the new Defender would be the way it was because the old one had been produced for so long those Engineers were long gone and they were just being made simply because the factory still existed and sales kept happening So eventually the engineers that brought the D3 and Range Rover Sport and all that are the ones who engineered the new Defender. The problem with Land Rover is that when they started making Innovative things they let it go to their head and started trying to do that constantly and always Reinventing the wheel as if sticking with a tried-and-true design and just making little improvements the way jeep has with the Wrangler Rubicon which is absolutely outstanding off-road in Factory form. And this is coming from a modified Discovery 2 owner who takes a lot of pride in his vehicle Land Rover just lost their way because they're all about Flash now

The Ineos Grenadier looks like a solid vehicle! Would love to get one, but it would be interesting to compare it to the Lexus GX550 or Yoda Land Cruiser 250 (I know that these two vehicles have IFS while the Grenadier has a SFA).

Would love to see a real head-to-head comparison between this and the Lexus GX550 (both 6 cyl. turbo - no hybrid). Compare them for price, build quality/fit and finish, on-road (road trip) and off-road driving impressions and capabilities - though I would think the Grenadier is better off-road with the solid axels and 3 lockers, getting to the off-road I assume the GX would be a smoother, easier and a more relaxing drive.

In Europe the standard measure used by all European manufacturers is 0-100 km/h. Since England used to be part of Europe they use the same standard measure but since they use mph in England it translates to 0-62 mph.

So the Grenadier is in between a Wrangler and a G Wagon. It has interior space closer to a G yet plenty of off road capability.
@dadventuretv2538 Жыл бұрын
Good vid but a quip- it is NOT a full time 4 wheel drive. 4 wheel drive means that the front and rear wheels are turning at the same speed. Simply because all four wheels get power does NOT make it 4 wheel drive, that just makes it AWD. What the Grenadier has is AWD with a manually selectable Center Diff Lock to make it 4 wheel drive. Until the Center Diff Lock is manually engaged you have a Subaru. A full time 4 wheel drive would be an AWD system with an Automatic Center Diff Lock which the vehicle computer can turn off to have it be AWD or engage when required to be 4 wheel drive. You can’t drive around in 4 wheel drive because the wheels turn the same speed and, when turning, both the front and back wheels and each side wheels turn at different speeds because they all take a different track around a curve (het your tires wet, find a dry parking lot and turn your vehicle and then look at your tracks if you want to see what I mean. If you were in 4 wheel drive where all the wheels are trying to turn at the same speed but the wheels need to be able to turn at different speeds bc you are turning the vehicle, in a high grip situation like a macadam road you will destroy the center diff. Please take the lingo seriously and use it correctly bc so many people already don’t understand this, making popular vids that people that have no clue already are going tk watch is just going to make it worse. I know you guys know, Tommy made a bid on the subject.
@ronaldrrootiii6040 Жыл бұрын
Yeah you're right but Land Rover even calls their original full-time four-wheel drive permanent four-wheel drive and all it really was was all wheel drive same thing with Toyota so really it's just a play on words they've been doing it since the seventies. Remember the old Land Cruiser that said full time on the back all that was was AWD on the road. Same thing with the Hummer AM General referring to itself as that. It's just a marketing thing
@victor74293 Жыл бұрын
Originally (i.e. before electronic gimmicks in off-road vehicles) there was no such thing as AWD. There were only two options: full-time 4WD with a locking center diff and part-time 4WD which didn't have the center diff (or had a "permanently locked center diff" when 4WD mode was engaged). Believe me, you can get pretty far with the classic full-time 4WD before you even need to engage the center lock, and until then you are stressing your drivetrain much less than with a part-time 4WD (and losing much less of an engine power by the way). Especially if you have solid axles with a good articulation. which is what most old-style 4WD vehicles had. Not mentioning that you don't need to engage 4WD when you are leaving the pavement or entering a rough spot, since it's already on. Back then full-time 4WD vehicles were considered vastly superior to part-time 4WD. Of course nothing is free, and manufacturers stopped producing full-time 4WD vehicles to reduce cost and weight, so not many are left. Sure, there is Toyota Highlander or 4Runner Limited, but their center diff is not designed to withstand off-road driving (manual explicitly says "don't engage center diff on the dry pavement as it may break", but Toyota doesn't say that part-time 4WD may break on the dry pavement, only that it will wear your drivetrain faster than normal). In today's world AWD is usually something like Highlander which is technically a full-time 4WD, but not designed for off-road, or automatic distribution of power ("on demand" transfer boxes) which are good for navigation a snowy driveway or a slippery road, but will break or overheat off-road.
