I'm getting banded in two days. This video was VERY comforting. I've learned SO MUCH from all of Dr. Chung's MANY valuable videos and will tell all the colorectal surgeons I meet to refer their patients to these presentations. I really wish all Drs. were as honest, human, and helpful. After staying basically healthy for 70 years, my experience of the US medical system is not very favorable. Dr. Chung gives me hope that it isn't all that way, and much of it sucks because of insurance companies and corporate mismanagement.

This was so helpful!!!!! I had an awful experience with one banding. I didn’t trust that I really needed it but doctor said a series of 3 were required… I went for one and the pressure was really bad for me. I had bleeding right away and the doctor got so frustrated with me calling for support he said to go see a general surgeon if I felt something was going on. I was very scared as it bled from the get go. I canceled the other 2 apts and found a new doctor. You are the best. 👏🏼👏🏼

Wow. It was incredible to hear about your experience as a patient. Thank you so much for sharing. I have had banding done 3 times. Each time I had an uncontrollable urge to strain and incredible abdominal cramping. So painful that the thought of doing it again is abhorrent. Unfortunately I now have grade 3 or 4 so probably need to find out about other treatments. Please keep your information real. It is so appreciated!

Thank you so much for your report on what happened and how you felt! It is SO HELPFUL to have a proctologist who treats these things actually share his OWN EXPERIENCE of hemorrhoid banding so publicly! I think sharing your personal experience so honestly, as you have done, is “pre-banding-treatment therapy “ and in that way, almost as valuable as the procedure itself.

Dr Chung you are amazingly down to earth. You explain things so easily for anyone to understand. I to had grade 2 and went through exactly what you were saying. I was laughing with you 😂. I’ve had to have banding twice due to a lot of dripping blood. I was so scared to have this procedure. I’ve been bleeding off and on for approximately 20 years. I’m glad I got it done. I’m praying that it is finished. (Ringgold, GA) God Bless you and your family!! Peggy

I read a study, surgery I believe is about 80 some odd % no reoccurance where banding was a little over 50% no reoccurance. My doctor told me recovery from surgery can be 4 to 6 weeks and he said it's very painful initially, plus you have to take sitz baths 4 times a day. Now that's my doctor different doctors may tell you differently.

Thank you, your information was helpful. I have had 3 operations in 20 years and more recent banding and the 3rd operation, which had a 2 week recovery, which was painful. I just want to not be concerned about this issue of hemorrhoids anymore and want them gone. After all of this, I now have a small hemorrhoid that is not painful but still concerning at times. I am trying to deal with all of this, but I really don't want to make this the center of my life. Your talking about your experience makes me feel more normal, thank you for that. You are too funny! Thank you for making this simply part of our lived experience. I underwent banding after many years of bouts with hemorrhoids that started when I was 29 years old. Three were banded. My discomfort level was at about 7 - probably due to me attending an important long meeting that evening and having three treatments done simultaneously. One band popped off the next morning. However, the other two remained intact until the hemorrhoids fell off. I want to say kudos to the surgeon. I have not had any problems in four years since the procedure.

@jessicawalker1870 I’m with you, it’s been the very worst physical pain I’ve ever had. And I have bulging discs , 2 C-sections, one natural birth, multiple ear surgeries, gallbladder … hemorrhoidectomy wins the award for the most miserable, painful horrific thing I’ve ever had to go through. Thank God I’m finally starting to heal and feel better. I’m adding here for anyone that is recovering from this, it wasn’t until a month later that I actually woke up and felt normal and back to myself. I was so happy, I looked on the calendar and it was one month to the day that I had surgery. So I went shopping with my mom for the first time since surgery and I started bleeding down there again. But no pain thank God. I think I just overdid it a little. But all is well and kegal exercises are important too ti build your pelvic floor strength back.

Thank you Dr Chung for the thorough explanation. My Dr just asked me if he finds hemorrhoids do I want banding. I didn't even know what it meant, sort of. I just had mine done yesterday. LOL. You seem to be a tiny bit dramatic but pretty close. I had a colonoscopy seven days prior and they set up the banding for the next week. First day I was afraid to walk. Today I forgot I had it done. As soon as I remembered, I started walking carefully and rested most of the day. I am afraid of having a bowel movement. The gas thing is exactly right as we are afraid to even relax the area. Truly, so far, it has been fine. My very young doctor worked so fast I didn't have time to focus in on any area. I think 3 or 4 were done. Going back two more times only because I was bleeding so bad and had to have a colonoscopy for fear of cancer. I am so grateful it is just hemorrhoids. Thank you for sharing with us.

when i had this done, they told me there is no down time you won't have any pain at all. "you have no nerves there" they said and 'you can go right back to work immediately." the instant he put the band on, i felt the urge to have a bowel movement. the doctor told me, "no, it might just feel that way because there is something foreign in your rectum, but if you want to use the bathroom go ahead." i had massive diarrhea, cold sweats, and extremely sore hemorrhoids. walked slowly and painfully to my car. took me about 10 minutes to sit down. was extremely difficult to drive because i was basically hovering above the seat holding myself up with my elbows while driving a stick shift. went home, had diarrhea about 3 more times. tried sitz bath, tried creams, couldn't get comfortable sitting or laying down. was pacing around my apartment for hours. called the doctor's office back to say something is wrong and they informed me that the doctor had left and went on vacation and would be back in 2 weeks, "if its an emergency go to the emergency room." Spent all night between the toilet and the bath. Called out of work the next day. Ended up out of work for the entire week. After a few days it felt like there was broken glass lodged up there. Every time I sneezed or coughed or clenched my muscles it was horrifically painful. There was lots and lots of blood. I was exhausted from the pain. I was walking around at 1mph like an old man. Full recovery I would say was close to 2 weeks. I would put it in the top 3 pains I ever felt in my life, higher than kidney stones, by the way, and would never ever again in a million years ever consider a band again. And never recommend anyone else do it.

Lucky you! I felt like I had a sword cutting me and passed out with a vasovagal response. The sword feeling lasted for about 3 days. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.

My wife had this procedure done recently and she is in excruciating pain even two weeks after having this done. Is this normal?

How is your wife now? Any better? My doctor suggested this band procedure and I’m very reluctant.

@@MamaPersonalTrainer- I went to Arizona to have them removed by laser. Best decision I ever made. Little to no pain. The banding was excruciating - do not recommend.

Thank you for this down to earth commentary...I am due for a colonoscopy within the next few months and I also know my doc will most likely want to address my hemorrhoidal issue...I really appreciate your candor here and now know what to expect...

Doctor thank you, I've been so embarrassed about my hemorrhoid I won't even let my wife know I have it been dealing with it for several years now. I've tried literally everything you can think of to help and nothing has helped. Well everything minus going to see a medical professional about it. But now I will. I'm hoping to get this healed so I don't have to spend the next 5yrs in excruciating pain. To where I want to cry and I start sweating. And hopefully I won't have to sit on a heating pad anymore. I have 3 heating pads. 1 in my bedroom and 1 for each car.

@@adelabuidris6292 thanks for asking. They have finally gone away after 4 yrs. Apparently I had 2 hemorrhoids and 2 small fissures. Using suppositories and a lot of witch hazel and a heating pad and getting a badet, it all worked an everything healed. Even my fissures completely closed. Thank you. It was a terrible experience.

Pretty spot on assessment. On day 3 right now. Day 1 felt like I needed to have a constant bowel movement which is kind of weird cause you know you don't have to go. Peeing has been different too, hard to get started and once it stops, it stops. I guess that nerve is freaked out a little, like I was told it might be.
