I am very new to watercolors (meaning I've only used them ONCE), but watching this makes me realize I just might love them. As a child, I would pick one crayon color and then challenge myself to color one page with only that color. I know I have so much more to learn! I'm really enjoying watching your videos, so thank you!!!

Love the new palette, but I will miss Aussie Red Gold, it was sooo pretty. I just got my set of Polychromos pencils, and have to get used to all the paint color names. I think I could match your watercolor palette with the pencils, which might be fun to try. I love that blue gray, have to see if I have a pencil that color.

As usual I love your new pallet. I realize how much I love color, vivid color. I got so into Daniel smith I bought colors just because they were pretty. Now, I have a small tub of colors, but I haven’t used watercolor in a while. So my island will be the same for a while. I’m excited to see what you do with the new pallet.

I love these palette building videos soooo much, because they say so much about the artists, what they love and maybe how they feel right now. In the yellows you mention Aureolin, which is a beautiful colour indeed, but if it's not the hue but the PY40 pigment, it's not lightfast at all and quickly changes into a grownish yellow or brownish grey (depending on the company). I've tested them out and collected my results on sunandcolors.com . Be careful with this one, it's a tricky one. ;) You've created a very beautiful palette there and I enjoyed the swatching process a lot. The paintings were amazing and just show your great choice of colours for your palette! Thanks for sharing the process and thoughts on that.

Yes I’m slightly concerned-it’s a II rather than a I on the Daniel Smith scale. Thus my not-fully-committing quite yet 😂
@LanaGoesArt4 жыл бұрын
@@SandyAllnock1 The rating only rates the fading, but not changing of hue, that's why Aureolin is so high on the scale. I personally wouldn't consider it a lightfast colour at all. It's very lovely on it's own and looks beautiful, but not suited for fine art, because I would hate it if your gorgeous paintings would turn from yellow to greyish brown.

@Sandy Allnock ... I completely agree with @@LanaGoesArt Take a look here at how it fades out to a weird brownish grey ... kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHqtkIJ-odCcfbs

Interesting that you made the decision to put multiple mixed pigment and specialty (like Moonglow) colors into a limited palette! I think I would enjoy painting with this palette but I'll stick to 48 colors for now 😂 I'm curious how you choose to mix grays with this palette!
@annajavier57124 жыл бұрын
I love to see you mix color, I still get confused with the warm and cool colored and what they do I think I’m a make a mixing chart of both then one of cool mixed with warm if you have any helpful hints let me know
@SandyAllnock14 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I don’t worry all that much about whether I’m mixing warms or cools together. It’s all about just knowing which colors make what I want. Two cools can easily make a warm. Two warms can make baby poop. 😂

Hi Sandy, I just saw your Island Palette video. It’s very interesting. I don’t know if you’ve heard, but I saw on Eve Bolt’s channel that Pigment PR168 (Daniel Smith Anthraquinoid Scarlet, QoR Permanent Scarlet) is being discontinued. Eve had more details about it in her video, but if you liked that color you might want to try and find a tube or two to keep on hand.

Actually, you have used Indanthrone a lot cuz it's a part of Payne's Blue Grey (it's made of Lamp Black mixed with Indanthrone).

Thank you for sharing your mixes. I will definitely try them out myself. What do you think of deep scarlet? It mixes well with other colours. I have cobalt teal and cobalt turquoise. I think I would find it hard to get rid of those! But then again, I’m an amateur and you are a great artist. I learned so much from your courses.

Deep scarlet is nice except when used alone it looks like dried blood to me 😂

I LOVE that Lunar Blue and Phthalo Blue Turquoise might have to go try those out. Is your Payne’s Blue Grey the same as normal Payne’s Grey? Not sure if they are two colors or just a brand naming difference
@SandyAllnock14 жыл бұрын
No it’s more blue than the regular one.

@Sandy Allnock ... I'm curious about your choice of Anthraquinoid Scarlet vs Pyrrol Scarlet. What made you choose one over the other?
@SandyAllnock14 жыл бұрын
Pyrrol is only semitransparent and I prefer transparent. The two are really similar in color though.
