Sooo surprised by these scores… my husband and I love this as more of an activity we do together. I wouldn’t want to play with more players though. We went through a chapter that we didn’t love, but have two more to finish the legacy game.

I love this one more than My City by just a little bit. I did have a question about something you mentioned in the video. Without spoiling anything, for that random scoring mechanism you were talking about, were you playing with the point components face up or down? They're supposed to be turned face up after being randomly placed on the board for set up.

I had the exact same question when they mentioned the randomness. If anything the scoring mechanism adds more thoughtful planning and awareness of other player’s islands.

I skipped My City and went to My Island: This game drives me nuts playing it. I feel like I am either winning or losing because of the deck order with little to nothing to do to mitigate it. I am not sure if this was the case for My City but it doesn't feel like your Island changes up much from the other players.

Planning for that was key for MyCity, but I think it was a bit easier since the tiles were single color and uniquely shaped

Dang that’s surprising, we have really loved this game. We haven’t ever played my city and are planning on getting it after we finish going through this one. Not for everyone I guess

I think a 5 is too low for where I'm at in the campaign. This is a good "everybody" game. This is game where my wife and I sit her mother down and play with no issues (so far...through envelope 3). Everybody can understand how to play and you can drop it and come back to it after a month or so and still remember how to play and you aren't going to get lost in the "story". I wouldn't break it out on a serious "gamer" night, it's a bit too light for that. I do like My City more, but this is fine for a game that you're going to play the campaign and break out when your parents come over for that weekly/monthly meal and be fine with. You can pick both of them up for about $50 total and get decent family weight legacy games that nobody should have an issue with learning how to and remembering how to play. It doesn't stick around too long, about 60ish minutes per envelope which is a 3 game session. I do agree that the 3rd game does drag a bit though because it's really just game 1&2 again with maybe 1 more scoring opportunity.

I felt like there was a huge aspect missing from the game. There were multiple people above 55 points at the end of the chapter & there was no rule as to how we decided a winner. Beyond that, the point system should of been built upon. Such as using your points at the end of the chapter to buy something that was used in the next chapter, and so on. Perhaps a battle system that incorporated dice for movement to defend your island from invaders or something at the end of each chapter, to build a wow factor to the game. We found it interesting with 4, but ultimately repetitive enough to not want to play it again after completing all chapters.

I thought My City was fine. There was a couple games in the last 1/3 of the campaign where i fell behind and it was obvious i could never catch up. That was a bit disheartening.

Tom and Chris are spot on. I loved My City, but My Island is machanically (if I want this much chance in my games, I might just roll some dice) and thematically (love the sea, can't feel it here - especially due to a certain plot twist) just a weak game.

Is anyone else questioning their own scoring and rules interpretation, how are the 1 to 5 points random
@DTChrisYi
@DTChrisYi Жыл бұрын
Another commenter pointed out that they are randomized and then placed face-up. You do have the correct interpretation. That would raise my score a little but not anything higher than what else you saw in the review.

The legacy aspect of this and My City are both pretty weak. I'd compare them more like trying a "flight" of drinks. Nothing will really surprise you or blow you away, but it's fun to experience tons of variations on a single mechanism.

That's disappointing hearing that the big second half game changer is so disappointing. I also preferred the first half of my city over the second, but still liked the second and it was really nice to get a big change. I still liked my city enough that I might get this to play with my parents where some crazy silly luck might be appreciated. But I might just buy and re-play my city again instead.

My partner and I loved My City. The whole campaign was perfectly balanced - the finish came down to the very last card to determine a final winner. My Island was the reverse experience. Winning bonuses outweighed losing ones. The chill 'play your own best game' style gets thrown out the window. And the rules! So many ambiguities in the rulebook, we were more frustrated than excited with almost every reveal. I agree this game is a huge disappointment.

This is a $30 light legacy game comparing it to other legacy games specially Ticket to ride legacy which costed 115EUR at Essen it's just dumb, it's clear they didn't even try to give it a fair shot.

My city was WAY better than my island. My island took away almost all of the catchup mechanics .. that's a bad thing . I had it won halfway thru the 24 games .. it made it less interesting for all 4 of us

I always feel like a jerk requesting stuff like this, but please be careful with the mic during the rules overviews. The static of it getting knocked is so abrasive to me with my headphones that I end up having to skip that part of the videos which I don't like to do, seeing the game and some rules is a pretty important part of the reviews

My Island and My City are Knizia guitar solos. He’s shredding and riffing on the polyomino mechanism in incredibly inventive ways. They are both works of genius. But they don’t have cartoon animals so 5/10.
