We just don’t have the money for the resources. California is fucking massive and our forest service is not big enough. Calfire literally control burns areas to prevent fires. Thats the logic we have because that’s all that works. You cannot send people out to pull weeds or clear brush. Go to any forest we have and start picking, see how long it takes you. I work with fire, calfire, border patrol and law enforcement. Amazing what perspective can do to you.

I'm a botanist in Southern California. While mapping rare plant species in the San Jacinto Mountains I came upon a trail of tape that led off trail in the direction I was headed. I laughed that it was the first time that the route to a rare plant species was so clearly marked. Just before leaving the area I spotted what I thought was a piece of plastic trash. When I picked it up to carry it out in my backpack I realized that it was a long line of plastic hose, and I could hear and feel water flowing through it and photographed it. Upon returning to town I reported it to the USFS. It turned out that it and the tape that was clearly visible to anybody from the trail led to an abandoned cannabis patch that had already been harvested. How they transported the product from that site is a mystery Near my home in the same mountain range another cannabis grove was found by a water district crew because the growers were diverting water from one of the fire hydrants in the neighborhood to their plants. These are just the ones that I know were found. How many others that went undiscovered I can only imagine.

@Moyla117 Cliff cinquefoil (Potentilla rimicola) found only in San Jacinto Mountains of Southern California and Ssn Pedro Martir Mountains in northern Baja. Grows in granite crevices elevation 2400-2800 meters. This location on a pinnacle above Dark Canyon is the type locality. Water was being siphoned from the North Fork of the San Jacinto River down into Dark Canyon where the marijuana grove was. I have photos of that site, but I don't know how to link them here.

Was on a solo backpacking/camping trip in Big Sur California in 2013. I pulled off on one of the many scenic turnoffs on HWY 1 and took some photos. Down beneath me, hidden against the cliff wall were 4 or 5 long boats. Not knowing the area, I just figured they were fishing boats, but at the same time thought it odd that they were seemingly impossible to get to because of the sheer cliff. I didn't think too much on it and moved on. Well about a year later I saw a photo very similar to mine on a Central Coast news site, but with $18,000,000 worth of weed bundles on the beach in front of the boats. These were cartel panga boats, and a retired cop on vacation with his wife pulled off on that same spot as me, but actually knew what he was looking at and called the police. The scary thing is, these low level cartel smugglers were camping up in the same hills as I was. How many hikers vanish into thin air because they stumbled onto something they shouldn't have?

Bit Sur is my most favorite spot on earth. Given I havent been many places. I live in Upstate NY and in the mid 90's drove up US 1 and it was THE Most Beautiful sight I have EVER seen. Especially Big Sur which we grabbed some food from a little place in Carnel and had a little picnic by a steam in Big Sur. Also the view from the restaurant "Nepenthe" was breath taking. All the way up US 1 from St Louis Obispo to San Fran I kept yelling to my then boyfriend to pull over. Took so many pics. Hurricane point was amazing. The food in San Francisco is the best I ever had. I stood on one cliff overlooking the ocean and for the first time in my life I thought I could die right now becuase the beauty just overtook me. Listened to Rush "Roll the Bones" the whole way and everytime I listen to that album I see beautiful cliffs and Hillsides covered in flowers flying by as we went in April. It breaks my heart whenever I see the mudslides and everything else that has happened and now criminals infiltrating the most beautiful serene piece of nature on earth .

I live in a rural county in Western North Carolina. The cartel has a huge presence here because of the lack of law-enforcement. I had 12 illegals living in a two bedroom house across the road about a quarter mile away. Once a month a runner in a blacked out, hopped up truck would stop by and pick up an envelope. I watched this go on for almost 2 years. The truck had nothing to do with the property owner. I had seen the same truck making the same type of pick up at other houses in the county and when I asked the person who lived near where the truck was picking up, they said the same thing. That truck only comes around about once a month. Leading me to believe only one thing, they were picking up those “tribute” payments. The shit you see when you are an observant individual is staggering here. For the most part, the illegals that are here have taken over all of the jobs. All of the available housing. The white (business and property owners) people that are renting to them and giving the jobs are more than happy to do it to make the money. The absolute glut of people has driven rental rates up to four times what they were five years ago. Making it impossible to find a house to buy or rent because the owners are making so much money. Greed on the part of the more wealthy individuals in this county is making things terrible for anybody trying to struggle through life. No jobs, no place to live and no hope for the future.

...so there is more to it...this will help explain a little. Property out in the deserts north/northeast of LA were for sale for cheap. 2.5-5 acre lots, empty desert, were going for the price of $500-$1000 an acre. Cartles came in and bought up hundreds of empty lots for the intention of growing. On the property, again middle of the desert, they setup a 4x8 plywood fence perimeter with agricultural hoops and plastic tarps that let UV light through. They also setup a RV or some type of trailer and have someone physically living in there and staying on the land 24/7, yes "trapped" there. They tend to the plants while a cartel member will bring in water and food, then leave. Once the plants are ready to harvest, they cut them down and sell the property to another "cartel member" and start over. The bureaucratic paperwork takes too long for the sheriff to do anything, until recently. Plus, it was hard to get "probable cause" because the gardens are surrounded by fence and you can't actually see any plants. Recently SB County and changed laws that allow them to go after the gardens by using a combination or land use/building permits as a loophole to speed up the process. They have Blackhawk helis making rounds and noting on GPS where the grows are at, as well. Over the last 5 years there has been a tremendous improvement on squashing out the grows.
