She basically manages all the data related to the aero performance of the car. Mercedes has models that predict how a new part is going to perform on its own and as a whole with the car, but these models have errors and variables omited that differe with the reality of the race. So she compares the data from the race and from practice sessions and tries to "correct" the models and also know how accurate the model is. She also does this with the wind tunnel, as the wind tunnel also differe with realty (in a different way). In the race she probably helps with the data by auditing the model results, as the race team look at these outputs and decides on strategy, but emma understands in a deeper level how the data feeds the models and how these models may give unaccurate or unreliable results in some specific scenarios.

It all depends on firing the imagination of young girls, so they show an interest in how things work. As this happens the percentage of the engineering workforce that are female will increase. It is a long process and is not guaranteed as there needs to be the interest in engineering, If there is no raw material you cannot produce the finished article. At the moment, the only women I have met, that are engineers have been very good at their job and that comes down to their passion.

As Lukas said, she's in the Race Support Room over race weekends at our base in Brackley, and away from the race weekends she works in the Aero offices on site too 😊 so she's factory based. We'll be sharing a lot more jobs from the factory this year in this series!
