My dad was a huge John Saul fan and gave me all of his John Saul books when I was a teenager. I recently decided to re-read the entire bibliography in order and just started the last book today. I definitely recommend reading more! In The Dark of the Night, Second Child, and Nathaniel are probably my top 3. Also, it seems the only one you're missing is his serial novel, The Blackstone Chronicles that was released in parts throughout 1997 but was later collected into 1 volume. (Also, The Devil's Labyrinth came before Faces of Fear)

I read Comes the Blind Fury in the 1980s. To this day I still think about that book.

"Creature" was one of the first novels I ever read, when I was about 9 or so. It was fun. I like how in your face the font on the cover of "Darkness" is !! LOL "Nathaniel" and "Hellfire" had pretty nice creepy factor to them. Saul's books are really more about vibe than story. The story is kind of formulaic sometimes. But if you like "X-files" or the "Friday the 13th: thee series" TV show, you might like Saul.

I've also read the first 3 books by him, and also Nathaniel, which I really enjoyed. I'm almost done with Punish the Sinners currently, and am loving it! It took ~200 pages, but once it got going it hasn't stopped!

If you have not read " Creature " yet, it is so creepy. All are. But that has always stuck in my mind. 😢 Impressive collection..

The Blackstone Chronicles, or The Serial Novella's, later released in one volume, is missing. Six installments and I waited until the third installment was released, read it and passed onto a co-worker. They in turn passed it on. A Chain Reading session. 8 readers, all anxious to get their hands on the next installment. Comes the bad news. Everyone has to wait for #4, not due for another month. Creature is my #1 pick. Black Lightning, The God Project, Cry For The Strangers and The Manhattan Hunt Club make up my top 5 John Saul favorites.

I read about a dozen John Saul novels in the late 90's and early 2000's. For some reason I stopped reading them. I'm looking forward to your reviews and opinions of his stuff.

Great collection Mr. Durfee!! My only issue with Saul is his horror almost goes rated R. Always a little too safe when you think it will pick up.

I’ve read the opening of the second child in the thrift shop I bought my copy in. It was actually a really good opening chapter in regards to how tense it was.

Just need to add The Blackstone Chronicles now. It’s together in one book now.

I got into John Saul after they made a computer game about the Black Stone Chronicles. My mom had it on her computer and I played it a lot when I was a kid. His books are incredible. I wish he didn’t stop writing.

Has there been a companion book that lists his books and plot and detail of the towns similar to Stephen King Universe. I ordered a few Bentley Little books. I remember reading The Store. It reminded me of Needful Things but much bigger like a Starbucks oving into a small town and eliminating the small coffee shops. Oh wait, they did that, didn't they. Also, there is a book caled Paperbacks From Hell.

I only read 2 JS books: *Nathaniel* and *The Presence*. The former was an 8.5/10, and the latter a 7/10.

I read, and own, up to NATHANIEL in order. By then I had kind of moved on with my taste for horror going more graphic and physical. Mr. Saul tended more towards the psychological. Although I did dip back in and read, and own, Creature. Overall pretty good reads..

John Saul is a mixed horror author for me. He has some cool ideas and a nice tone to his stories, but his characters are usually very hollow and his plots play out like fairly generic b movies. I like him and he can be fun to read, but not my favorite. Maybe the few I've read were just some of his weaker ones. I'll definitely give him another chance one of these days.

I have all the books and have read them in order of publication up to and including Darkness so far. My favorite is The Unwanted, in my opinion his best work. The God Project, Hellfire, When the Wind Blows, Sleepwalk, and Darkness are some of my favorites. The Unloved was a little weak but still good, Creature was a little mediocre, but still worth the read. Second Child was good for most of it, but the ending was terrible, it went nowhere. All the rest of the books are good horror/suspense reads. A great collection of books everyone who likes this kind of stuff should have.
